Hell has invaded, but my Hextech is invincible!
Chapter 51 The Decisive and Ruthless Inessa
Hearing the first gunshot, followed by sporadic gunfire, Hextech immediately concluded, "It seems there are still people holding out."
"Are they bodyguards for nobles, or...?"
Inessa listened intently and instantly identified the type of firearm.
"Enfield Model 1905 Rifle".
"They are equipped with city defense regiments, not the Khalid assault rifles commonly used by nobles."
Just by listening to the sound, she was able to identify the gun model; Inessa's professional skills were truly outstanding.
"Let's go that way," Inessa said after a moment's thought.
Hex was taken aback. Inessa wasn't pointing in the direction from which the gunshots came, but rather in the opposite direction to a leaning building.
"Aren't you going to take a look?" Hex asked curiously.
"That's one of yours."
"I don't recommend going to rescue them." Inessa's expression was cold, without the slightest hesitation.
"We can't save everyone, or even anyone."
"This is a closed cage; we can only hope to survive on our own."
"According to the '1845 Law of Dealing with Demons in Hell,' once you find yourself in the gates of hell or the realm of demons, never actively seek out your companions, as you cannot be sure if those people are still the same people you know."
"Moreover, if too many people gather, it will only attract the attention of monsters or even demons, which will eventually kill everyone."
"We are not capable of providing aid; this is a seven-day hell."
"I can only take care of myself first."
Hextech was stunned.
If it were a nun in the ordinary world, she would probably have forced him to rescue the survivors in the name of justice.
He had even prepared his explanation, but to his surprise, Inessa not only didn't make any demands, but also took the initiative to dissuade him.
He then suddenly realized that this was not his original world.
This is a world that has been invaded and oppressed by hell for nearly a thousand years.
Human beings have long developed a unique concept of survival regarding sacrifice and death, and there is no such thing as unrealistic naiveté.
"Thanks for reminding me." Hex nodded.
He had only been in the world for less than twelve hours, yet upon his arrival he killed more than a dozen people, fought with gangsters in the slums, and detonated an altar in a textile factory. By all accounts, he seemed like a heartless outlaw.
But in Inessa's eyes, his bottom line was still too high.
No, I was too merciful. I've disgraced the Fourth Scourge. Hextech sighed inwardly.
Just as Inessa said, more and more monsters were attracted by the gunshots and gathered in the direction of the gunshots, which actually made room for the two of them to move away.
With Inessa's temporary blessing concealing their presence, the two quickly traversed the ruins, arriving at the leaning building in less than five minutes.
At the same time, the gunfire in the distance completely stopped.
It was clear that even the well-trained city defense forces and crusaders could not stop the endless tide of demons.
"This is the Manchester branch of the Royal Bank of the Empire," Inessa explained.
"As far as I know, the branch's basement has a defense-grade security room that can withstand the physical impact of most monsters."
She then pointed to the third floor: "The top floor is a department store; they should have the food we need there."
"Plus, monsters roam around, so no one will compete with us for food."
Inesa's judgment was correct; if they were to survive for seven days, this was undoubtedly the perfect base.
The two cautiously entered the hall, which was in complete disarray.
It had clearly been ransacked by monsters, but there was no blood on the ground.
"The bank staff were evacuated long ago, and the church obtained the key to the underground vault in advance in order to transfer the assets," Inessa explained to Hex.
"Inessa, you're so thoughtful, and you can even command an army on the spot. You're amazing," Hex couldn't help but exclaim.
They're skilled in combat, calm, and knowledgeable in professional techniques—the nuns in this world are ridiculously strong.
Inessa didn't say much and quickly led him upstairs.
The third floor is supposed to be a department store, but there weren't many items on the shelves.
Most of the items are bread and flour, with a small amount of alcohol.
Aside from a hearty meal at the United Front base, Hextech hadn't had a drop of water since the intense battles began, and was starving. Although his physique wouldn't allow him to starve to death in a short time, his continued weakness would affect his combat effectiveness.
The two quickly packed up the packaged food, and Hex also packed a few bottles of wine.
"Oh no, they're back!"
Hextech heard a series of rapid footsteps approaching from afar; the monster was turning back in their direction.
Inessa walked to the window and looked out, her pupils shrinking slightly: "After the gunfire was extinguished, a large number of monsters are heading this way."
My temporary blessing has expired.
Without the slightest hesitation, the two rushed into the underground vault.
A heavy, round metal door stood in front of me, secured with three rotary combination locks.
"Left 32, right 56, right 68, and finally left 27," Inessa quickly recited the password.
Hextech gripped the massive spinning wheel and spun it rapidly, the creaking sound echoing as the vibrations overhead grew ever closer.
Blocked at the vault entrance by an unknown number of monsters, even he couldn't possibly break through.
Fortunately, he possessed incredible strength and was the first to unlock the two locks. After Inessa recited the last set of codes, Hex exerted tremendous force, but the door remained unmoved.
"Incorrect password?" Hex looked at Inessa.
Her face paled slightly, but she remained calm: "There's no mistake!"
"Unless... someone changed the password."
Imissa thought of something, made the sign of the cross on her chest, ripped off the silver cross from her neck, and slammed it against the door.
"In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I command you: Open the door!"
The thunderous roar of the approaching vehicle had already reached the lobby on the first floor.
"I command again, open the door!"
"Open the door immediately!"
Inessa raised her voice, and a faint white holy light flashed around her.
Click—
The heavy vault doors finally opened slowly.
Without a word, Hex pulled open the heavy iron door, shoved Inessa inside, and then rushed in himself, slamming the door shut behind him.
Just as the door was closing, the monster slammed into it, and the entire door only shook slightly before falling silent.
Safe.
Hex had barely breathed a sigh of relief when he saw a middle-aged man in a suit and tie, with a slightly balding head, kneeling tremblingly on the ground, covered in cold sweat: "Sister."
"I didn't change the password on purpose. I didn't know you would come here..."
Inessa looked at him coldly: "Are you a bank employee?"
"Yes, yes!" The middle-aged man lowered his head, looking terrified.
"I didn't have time to evacuate and I'm stuck here!"
"The Lord has warned us that we should save everyone..." Inessa said slowly.
The man breathed a sigh of relief, thinking he had escaped a disaster.
Hextech, however, frowned.
He'd read too many apocalyptic novels; these suddenly appearing survivors were often moles or problematic individuals, highly likely to betray him at a crucial moment. He was just about to speak and tell Inessa to tie the person up.
But Inessa turned around abruptly, and a flash of bright silver sword light appeared.
Hex stared in disbelief as the terrified head rolled to his feet.
He glanced at the head on the ground, then at the expressionless Inessa, and silently patted his own face.
I was too kind after all; my moral standards were too high.
Inessa understood his confusion. She stepped forward and lifted the corpse's shirt, revealing a double-headed human riding a camel tattooed on the chest. It was the Adventist totem that he had seen countless times on cult members.
The fifth demon god, Malbus.
"He's a cultist," Inessa said.
"How did you figure that out?" Hex asked in surprise.
"No one dares to disobey the Church's order to evacuate," Inessa said confidently.
"It's impossible for an ordinary employee to be unable to evacuate in time."
"It is even more impossible for anyone to tamper with the Imperial Bank's vault password without authorization."
"He's full of flaws, except that he's a spy planted by the Adventists—"
"I can't think of any other possibility."
Even if he isn't—
"In such a critical moment, the Church also has the right to deal with anyone," Inessa said calmly.
Hextech stared intently at the beautiful nun.
She was more like the Fourth Calamity than he, the time traveler.
