Hell has invaded, but my Hextech is invincible!
Chapter 48 The Steel Door!
Very well, the church is unreliable, and the United Front shouldn't expect them to come back to save people either. There's not much support inside the Gates of Hell either.
In other words, apart from this six-star support operator, there's no other hope. This is even worse than in the game, where at least the protagonist can assemble a team.
Hex rubbed his neck and reassured her, "It's not too bad."
"At least, the city wasn't completely overrun; the civilians all escaped."
"Our efforts have not been in vain."
This statement surprised Inessa, who looked at him with considerable astonishment. She had expected Hex to be frustrated and desperate, but he was surprisingly optimistic.
"Mr. Horus, you are truly a unique person," Inessa said softly.
"I thought you would resent me for dragging you into this."
"Never mind." Hextech looked at the gold and red Heartsteel symbol on his hand.
"Don't be so polite, Sister Inessa." Hex extended his hand to her.
"Over the next few days, we will be partners fighting side by side."
Just call me Hextech.
Inessa gently placed her hand in his palm, and was firmly pulled up.
"Then you can just call me Inessa," Inessa said softly.
"There are three essential elements for survival in the apocalypse: material and spiritual." Hex said earnestly.
"Safe shelter, clean water, and food—these are the material conditions."
"Also, an optimistic attitude, unwavering confidence, and a clear plan."
"This is a condition of the mind."
He had watched a lot of survival videos, so these principles were crystal clear to him.
A safe haven allows them to rest and recuperate without being easily discovered by monsters. Clean water and food maintain their strength and ensure their fighting ability. And a clear plan is the key to survival.
If it is to last for seven days, then these conditions are essential.
Hex looked around the room; the ceiling was twisted and warped. He reached out and lifted a few old wooden planks, revealing a thick, rusted steel pipe through which a cold wind was blowing in.
"Is there any ventilation here?" Hexton paused, his brow furrowing slightly.
"That's right, this is the cult's original underground space, and the entrance has collapsed," Inessa said.
"But it's relatively secluded; choosing this location reduces the risk of being discovered."
"If it were a normal disaster, there wouldn't be any problem here," Hex said.
"But this is the gates of hell."
"Our scent might be detected by monsters through the ventilation ducts."
"I'm also aware of this problem, and there are ways to cover it up," Inessa explained.
"If we find two corpses, place them in the upper space, and smear them with a lot of blood and organs, the monsters will mistake that place for the source of human life and subconsciously ignore us hiding below."
Hex looked at Inessa: "I didn't expect you to know so much."
Inessa said, "This is all knowledge from books."
"I never imagined that I would actually use this kind of knowledge one day."
She sighed softly, walked to the fortress gate, and gently pulled open the heavy iron door.
The piercing "creak" sound made Inessa stop immediately.
This commotion is too great and could easily attract nearby monsters.
Behind the door was a winding corridor, with several broken water pipes constantly leaking water.
Hex walked over, scooped up a handful of water, sniffed it lightly, and his eyes instantly lit up: "Good news, this is tap water."
Although this area has been pulled into the gates of hell, and the space is completely isolated from the outside world, and the water supply network has long been cut off, the water inside the pipes is still there.
It's just existing stock, so it's destined to be limited.
"Inessa, come quick! Let's find more containers and store as much water as possible!" Hex said.
Since the goal is to survive the apocalypse, they need to gather survival supplies as quickly as possible. Hextech and Inessa are still within human territory and cannot do without food and water. In the demon realm beyond the gates of hell, water is an even scarcer resource than food.
Inessa snapped out of her daze, quickly turned around and found various sizes of jars and buckets, then squatted down next to the water pipe to collect water.
After filling the two large tanks with enough water, Hex suddenly stopped and made a shushing gesture to Inessa.
Immediately, Inessa carefully placed the bucket down, slowly drew the short sword from her waist, her whole body tense, holding her breath and concentrating.
The next second, a series of dense rustling sounds came from the dark end of the corridor.
One after another, hyena-like monsters, each the size of a small calf, marched past from the other end of the passage, shoulder to shoulder. Some of them had pieces of human tissue in their mouths, and Hextech's keen senses detected a foul, pungent stench.
The two held their breath tightly, even deliberately slowing their heartbeats.
But just now, the ceiling vent that Hex opened blew out a stream of air that went straight from behind the two of them into the depths of the corridor.
The rustling sound abruptly stopped.
All the hyena monsters stopped in their tracks and turned around abruptly.
Pairs of scarlet eyes, like searchlights, were fixed on Hex and Inessa at the other end of the corridor.
At the same time, the Heart of Steel mark on the back of Hextech's hand quietly began to glow.
On the forehead of the leading hyena monster, a dark spot of light was flashing wildly.
Hextech's heart began to pound wildly.
Inessa glanced around, trying to find a second way out.
It was obvious that this room was the last one at the end of the passage, and there was no other way to escape unless the steel cable on the ceiling was broken and the passage was broken from above.
She wanted Hex to stop her, and was about to grab him to close the door before retreating from the top of the passageway, but her hand suddenly grasped nothing.
Hextech suddenly shot forward like an arrow, crashing into the depths of the tunnel.
thump—
The deafening roar tore through the sky, the entire passage trembled violently, and rubble crumbled from the rock walls. The monster at the front was frozen in place by the ferocity of the force, not even having time to react.
"Hextech!"
Inessa gasped in shock.
She was only shocked for a moment, but quickly understood Hextech's intentions.
Rather than running away and being constantly hunted by these monsters, it's better to strike first.
Without further hesitation, Inessa drew her dagger from her waist, a flash of cold light, and charged forward.
But she had barely taken a step when Hex had already darted more than ten meters away.
His physique was far beyond that of ordinary people. With each step he took, he shattered the floor tiles and rushed to the end of the passage in seconds.
The hound-like monster finally reacted, going berserk. Its alpha wolf opened its mouth, dripping corrosive saliva that sizzled white smoke on the ground. Its claws stomped the ground, transforming into a black gust of wind that rushed straight for his head.
Snapped!
Hextech reached out with one hand, locking his neck like an iron clamp, and slammed him down.
boom!
The ground cracked, stones flew everywhere, and the monster was thrown around in a daze.
The next second, an iron fist rapidly enlarged in its scarlet pupils.
Boom!
The head exploded with a thud, spraying blood mist onto the rock wall, and red and white matter splattered all over the ground.
