Hell has invaded, but my Hextech is invincible!
Chapter 27 The Church Attacks
The people of the United Front below are professionally dismantling the altar and destroying the rituals.
Hextech stood with Emily up there to get some fresh air, since the smell was absolutely disgusting.
"What's wrong? Were you scared by what happened just now?" He turned to look at Emily, whose face had turned pale.
Emily's voice was soft: "I can feel their resentment and pain."
"And this suffering did not disappear just because they destroyed the altar."
"Staying here would only bring more pain and despair."
You, a future saintess of a cult, why are you so sentimental now? Li Kan was livestreaming in his room just twelve hours ago, and he didn't feel this strongly involved.
However, he quickly grasped a point.
"You mean, this ritual may not have been completely interrupted yet?" Hex frowned.
Emily nodded.
At that moment, Ida walked over, her face grave: "We destroyed the altar."
"But the ceremony is still going on."
"Mr. Horus, do you have any information on how to completely end the ritual?"
Hex frowned. When he played the game, it wasn't that complicated. He cleared out all the monsters here and destroyed the altar.
Now that all the cultists are dead and there are no other monsters, how come it's still running?
Hextech glanced at the interface, and sure enough, the mission progress was still "Destroy the Cult Altar: 0/6".
Okay, so it turns out that you can just leave the game running in the background and complete the task by simply leaving it running.
"I'm not sure; I don't know anything about cult rituals," Hex said.
"However, I think we haven't found the core."
So how exactly can this altar be destroyed?
The high-performance explosives detonated!
Or should we get the church to come and defend us?
For the first time, Ada showed obvious hesitation.
She glanced back at the wrecked altar of bones.
"Perhaps, as you said, leaving Manchester is the safest option."
Ada is one of the few characters in Hell Invasion who knows how to weigh gains and losses and has a normal set of values. If you cooperate with her and make the benefits clear, she won't do anything outrageous or harmful.
If it were one of those overly compassionate characters from the Hextech Gold Army, even if they talked themselves hoarse, they wouldn't just turn around and leave so easily, prioritizing their own lives. They would definitely put humanity and the world first.
Hextech was somewhat helpless. Although he had received the main quest, there was no penalty, and he was also envious of the gold and experience. But right now, he really had no clue what to do. If he couldn't even remove the first altar, the rest would probably be very difficult.
Just then, Emily seemed to sense something and turned to look at the entrance to the passage behind her. "Hextech, someone's coming!"
"What?" Ada's expression darkened slightly.
As the footsteps drew closer, Ada seemed to sense something and immediately pulled Hex down with her.
The next second, a hail of bullets whistled through the air, hitting precisely where the two had just been standing.
With a thud, Hextech landed at the bottom of the pit with Emily in his arms. Looking up, he saw a group of burly warriors wearing cloaks, bright silver cross armor, and carrying automatic rifles, swarming out of the passage.
Everyone wore a cross-shaped helmet, and pairs of fanatical eyes shone through the gaps in the cross.
The leader saw the black-clad, reinforced soldiers of the united front below and roared.
"As expected of a heretic within the United Front!"
"Purify them!"
When Benev saw the iconic Papal Cross armor, he was instantly consumed by rage.
"They're church dogs, kill them!"
The two sides met and immediately opened fire without saying a word.
Bullets flew everywhere, and gunshots rang out deafeningly.
Hextech was completely dumbfounded.
How did these crusaders end up at this altar?
"Wait! Stop killing yourselves!" he shouted, but no one listened.
The church and the United Front have been mortal enemies for centuries. The moment they met, they lost their minds, completely disregarding how eerie this underground space was, and even less concerned that it had just been occupied by a cult.
The Vatican has always regarded the United Front as the greatest heresy, and the United Front will never offer any explanation to the Church.
However, attacking from a high position and targeting idiots, the dozen or so enhanced soldiers were instantly suppressed by the Church Crusaders' firepower and could not even lift their heads.
The Crusader above felt that the long-range firefight wasn't satisfying enough, so he simply jumped off the platform and landed in front of Hextech.
The leading crusader saw Hex and his eyes flashed with intense hatred.
"Heretics, die!"
It was a very loud female voice.
She immediately raised her gun, aimed at Hex, and pulled the trigger.
"Holy crap!"
Hex grabbed Emily and rolled away, narrowly avoiding the gunfire, before rushing behind a low wall.
Bullets pelted the low wall, sending shards of stone flying.
Hex glanced to the side, then flipped over again, kicking down the already crumbling low wall. Dust billowed up instantly, temporarily obscuring the opponent's view.
But the crusader gave him no chance to breathe, pressing forward relentlessly with his gun, suppressing him with firepower.
With a fragile creature in Hextech's arms, he could only dodge and weave through the intricate underground terrain.
Fortunately, the Crusaders were unfamiliar with the layout of the place, and even though Hex was with Emily, they were not shot.
But Hex turned a corner and saw a solid rock wall ahead.
Oh no, we've hit a dead end.
He had barely turned around when the crusader caught up behind him.
Without hesitation, she pulled the trigger, but only heard a series of empty clicks.
The bullets have all been fired.
She snorted coldly, casually tossed the empty gun aside, and approached step by step.
"Heretic, every hair on your head reeks of sin."
"I will follow the will of Jesus and purify you completely."
Hextech is utterly speechless.
"Excuse me, lady Crusader, could you please look around first?"
"We're here to eradicate cults too!"
"The Adventists are about to begin their ritual, dragging all of Manchester into the gates of hell!"
"Fine, you won't even thank me!"
"You guys don't care about anything, you just shoot me a few times as soon as you see me, are you guys crazy?"
The Crusaders merely sneered: "Trying to fool us with lies?"
"All I know is that the United Front is full of heretics."
"The Supreme Bishop of the Protestant Union issued a decree fifty years ago!"
"The United Front is a scourge!"
"The clergy will wield the sword of evil and purify the souls of you unbelievers!"
"Put that little girl down, don't use her body as a shield!" she pointed at Emily.
"Fuck you! Why didn't you raise your gun when you opened fire?" Hex cursed.
The perfectly good situation was completely ruined by this group of charlatans, and Hextech was also getting angry. It seems there's no point in reasoning with these conservative to the point of madness.
He quickly tucked Emily into a safe corner, giving the Crusaders a thumbs-down gesture.
"Come on, you charlatan!"
"Heretics!" The Crusader roared like thunder, his heavy armor clanging as he charged forward like a bull.
Instead of retreating, Hextech advanced, his figure transforming into a gray shadow as he suddenly closed in, delivering a swift and decisive kick.
A muffled "bang" was heard.
The air exploded with a kick, the sole of the boot slamming into the Crusader's chest, sending her flying several steps.
But at the cost, Hextech also took a heavy punch from his opponent, which landed on his shoulder, causing a dull pain.
But that's about it.
In terms of strength, Hextech has a slight edge; in terms of vitality, Hextech completely overwhelms its opponent.
Hex wasn't a fighter either, but he had fought Benev twice and learned a few moves of the "turtle fist" style. Knowing that he couldn't give his opponent any chance to breathe, he immediately stepped forward, grabbed the Crusader's ankle, and with a sudden burst of strength, lifted him high into the air before slamming him hard to the ground.
"Boom—"
A shallow crater was smashed into the hard stone ground, and dust flew everywhere.
However, the Crusader's armor was clearly reinforced with special advanced technology, and the heavy fall did not knock her unconscious.
She suddenly straightened up and slammed her iron fist into Hex's chest again.
"Bang!"
With a muffled thud, as if hitting a solid mountain wall, Hextech was only shaken slightly.
The Crusaders clearly hadn't expected Hex to be so powerful, fighting against fully armored opponents with no armor and actually using his bare hands to withstand the attack!
Hextech gripped her iron arm tightly and unleashed a rising dragon punch aimed straight at her chin, the only part of her body not covered by armor.
The crusader was also a seasoned veteran, and he immediately raised his arm to block, the metal scraping together producing a piercing creaking sound.
She then flipped her wrist and drew a short dagger from her waist. With a flash of cold light, she thrust it straight at Hex's heart.
Hex was startled and instinctively took a half step back, but he was still a fraction too slow. He felt a chill on his chest as his skin was torn open and blood instantly soaked through his clothes.
The confrontation lasted only a few seconds, but it was extremely dangerous; the slightest mistake could result in instant death.
"Kneel down and repent for your sins!" the Crusader growled, his voice accompanied by the muffled clang of his metal mask.
"I'll fucking kill you!" Hextech, completely ignoring the burning wound on his chest, lunged at him again.
The Crusader knew he couldn't outmatch the man in strength and tried to distance himself, but Hextech was much faster.
Hex suddenly crouched down, gripping Crusader's waist tightly, his muscles tensing, and unleashed a vicious over-the-shoulder throw.
"Bang!"
The Crusader's head slammed heavily onto the floor. He was dizzy, his limbs were weak, and he could not get up for a while.
Immediately afterwards, Hextech punched her hard in the face.
The metal helmet clattered to the ground, and a head of brilliant golden hair cascaded down.
The moment Hextech saw that face clearly, his second punch stopped in mid-air.
The woman in front of him was actually the leader of his first Shield Group.
The Great Wall of Manchester, also known as the budget version of Shield Mountain, is played by Joanna.
