Chapter 84 The Blind Owl's Curious Treasure House
Blind Owl's Curious Strange Things Shop is one of the most popular shops among spellcasters in the entire Riverwood.
Because the item was expensive and relatively niche, it was simply unaffordable for low-level adventurers who were still struggling to make ends meet, and therefore it did not appear in the Adventurer's Handbook.
The shop offers exquisitely crafted staves, robes that speed up spellcasting, and a wide variety of enchanted trinkets with varying effects, making it a more attractive option for wealthy spellcasters than their guilds.
Moreover, it's said that the shop owner, Victor, was once a formal member of a top magical organization on the continent. Even if you don't buy anything, as long as you don't look illiterate, he's happy to discuss some profound magical knowledge with you.
Of course, the prerequisite is that you must be a spellcaster.
Logan looked up.
The signboard bearing the shop's name features an owl sculpted from steel, its eyes gleaming gold; upon closer inspection, they appear to be filled with gold.
Are they blinded by gold coins?
Logan recalled what Dallak had said yesterday.
"Magic trinkets? I can't do that! Enchanting is a very complex field. Making small magical items like rings and necklaces requires proper mages. You can try asking at [Gru's Scrap Metal], but the markup is too high, and delivery is slow. After all, the distribution channels... you know."
"However, if you'd like to see the actual product now, I do have a shop I can recommend you to go to—"
The image of Dallak's smirk is still vivid in my mind.
"The shop manager has an eccentric personality, but the stuff is definitely top-notch."
When Logan opened the door, instead of the crisp sound of a doorbell, he heard a series of muffled thuds, like bones being struck, which sent chills down his spine.
The shop was dimly lit, with only a few glowing crystals emitting a bluish light hanging from the ceiling, besides the dim yellow oil lamps.
In the very center is a counter with a glass display case, through which you can vaguely see rings inlaid with gemstones.
To Logan's left, against the wall, stood rows of exquisitely crafted wooden staffs; even a slight approach revealed the scent of gold coins.
Logan recalled the staff he had sold before, and he subconsciously compared it with the staffs in front of him. He felt that the staff he had sold before was only average among these staffs.
Each staff here is probably worth more than 200 gold coins.
Extremely expensive.
On the right side are rows of scrolls, and by the light, you can vaguely see the dense patterns on them.
Logan moved even closer out of curiosity.
"oops--"
Behind the counter, a gaunt, elfin old man slowly turned his swivel chair.
White hair, red eyes, hunchback, wearing a faded blue robe.
The left side of his face looked as if it had been completely corroded by some kind of strong acid, leaving a huge red scar.
"Don't stare at my reel with your filthy eyes..."
The old elf stood up shakily from behind the counter. He pushed up his thick monocle on his nose and held a feather duster in his hand.
"Mr. Victor, I'd like to buy a magical trinket."
Logan looked away and got straight to the point.
"It was Darak from the Great Hammer Blacksmith Shop who recommended me here. He said you have some good stuff."
"Dalak?" The old man squinted, as if he'd heard something foul. "That little dwarf whose head is full of forging hammers? He knows nothing about magic..."
The old man's gaze slid down the edge of his glasses, looking the two of them up and down in their clothes, and he shook his head in disdain.
"An adventurer reeking of blood. Listen, young man... even the cheapest amulet costs this much."
The old man held up one finger.
"If you don't have a hundred golden coins in your purse, you'd better get lost and go back to Dalark to buy an iron helmet."
Logan simply patted the money pouch at his waist.
"no problem."
The old man raised his gray eyebrows, and the scar on his left cheek moved menacingly.
"There's one more thing..." The old man tapped the air in front of him with a feather duster, "Stay away from my staff and scrolls... Your muscle-bound head can't control them... Come here, over to the counter."
The old man shakily lifted the lid of the glass display case, revealing rows of rings inlaid with gemstones that shone brightly.
"Most of the magical trinkets here are intended for noble spellcasters..."
The old man's voice was slow and arrogant.
"But for roughnecks like you who spend all your time wallowing in the mud, I still have quite a few good things here."
Unexpectedly, although the old man had been very sharp-tongued and his tone was filled with the arrogance of a spellcaster, his voice instantly became calm, delicate, and even a little fanatical when he started introducing the magical ornaments in front of him.
Instead, she resembled a knowledgeable academy tutor, her fingers dancing across the rings as she proactively introduced him to the magical creations before her.
He doesn't even shy away from the flaws and shortcomings of the products in his store.
"This copper vine ring is enchanted with the first-circle spell [Lightness]. In my opinion, the engraved runes on it are so rough that they look like they were chewed by a dog. This causes a lot of magic loss. Although it can make you move faster, the duration is too short. It's just a half-finished product and is only worth 100 gold coins."
"This cold iron ring is quite nice. Although it's so small, the base is made of high-purity cold iron, and it's enchanted with the second-circle spell [Super Strength]. Judging from the style of the engraving, it's from the Royal Saik School of the Shava Empire. It's enough to give you the super strength to tear apart a giant bear in a short time. However, its price will be three times higher."
As Victor explained in detail to Logan, Logan's gaze slowly wandered over the many rings.
Under Victor's gaze, his fingers lightly touched the different rings.
Victor ignored Logan's touch and continued his commentary.
[Stride], [Light Guide Arrow], he looked at the panels of the magical items in front of him one by one, paused, and then pointed to the next one.
Ok?
This one...
What comes into view is a silver ring set with a dark red gemstone.
In an instant, translucent text appeared before Logan's eyes.
