Chapter 49 Reunion and Invitation
In his room at the Sleeping Dragon Tavern, Logan stuffed his few remaining changes of clothes into his pack.
He still accepted Elsa's invitation to live together.
There wasn't really a reason to refuse. The security in the West District was only so-so, and he wasn't comfortable leaving Elsa, whose injuries hadn't fully healed, and young Lily, two girls, alone in that bungalow at night.
What's more, this way we won't have to pay the tavern rent anymore. Although it only costs 50 copper coins a day, every little bit helps, so we should save where we can.
And living with them would probably make me less lonely.
Logan pushed open the door and left the tavern.
Instead of going straight home, he turned into [Gru's Scrap Metal].
The shop was dimly lit, and the orc Gru was wiping a dagger.
Upon seeing Logan, he narrowed his eyes and meaningfully accepted the longbow Logan offered. The bow still carried a faint scent of blood. Gru's large hand gently plucked the bowstring, producing a soft hum.
"Good stuff," Gru muttered.
Clang.
Five platinum coins, gleaming coldly, were pushed in front of Logan.
"Five platinum coins, kid, not bad."
Logan nodded. "Thank you."
Gru suddenly grinned and slapped Logan hard on the shoulder.
"I guess I misjudged him! I thought Thorin had just introduced a lucky kid, but it's only been a few days... tsk, the owner of this longbow is no ordinary person."
"hiss--"
Logan felt a sharp pain in his shoulder, and his eye twitched violently.
His wound hadn't fully healed yet, and this almost knocked off the scab that had just formed.
Seemingly noticing Logan's discomfort, Gru laughed heartily and withdrew his hand.
"If you need anything to take care of in the future, just come over. If you want to buy anything rare that you can't get through the official channels... you can also come to me, I might be able to find a way."
Logan nodded.
This orc's power might be far greater than he imagined.
"it is good."
It's always better to have more friends than more enemies.
......
As darkness fell, Logan arrived at the Adventurers' Guild's main hall.
The hall was still bustling with noise. As soon as Logan entered, he unexpectedly spotted several familiar figures.
Thorin the old dwarf, Baron the shieldbearer, and Papa the ranger.
They were covered in blood and mud, clearly having just returned from a mission.
"Hey! Logan!"
Papa, with her sharp eyes, was the first to jump up and wave. The three of them smiled when they saw Logan, their faces weary.
"Where have you been making your fortune these past few days, kid?" Thorin walked over laughing and slapped Logan hard on the right shoulder.
"Grass......."
Logan finally couldn't hold back, gasped, and winced in pain.
"Did you plan this together today? Targeting the wounded specifically for their weak points?"
Logan rubbed his shoulder irritably and took a half step back.
The three then noticed that although Logan had changed into clean clothes, the outline of bandages was faintly visible under his clothes, and his face was somewhat pale.
"Good heavens, it's only been a few days, where have you been risking your life again?" Thorin's smile vanished as he looked Logan up and down.
"It was just a minor mishap, but it's been resolved." Logan brushed the topic aside casually. "And you guys?"
"Hehe, pretty impressive, huh!" Papa puffed out his chest proudly. "We just wiped out a goblin camp, much bigger than the last one! There were over thirty of them!"
Barron, standing to the side, didn't say anything, but his back was ramrod straight.
He became more confident.
After all, he had already mastered a combat technique, and the improvement in his strength was indeed the best medicine for building confidence.
"Not bad, kid."
Logan chuckled and playfully punched Barron in the chest in encouragement.
Thorin, however, curled his lip and exhaled a smoke ring.
"Alright, alright, stop showing off in front of this kid. Logan is better than both of you combined now."
The old dwarf leaned closer to Logan and lowered his voice.
"You little brat... come clean, you haven't learned any new combat techniques, have you?"
Logan nodded, without denying it.
"You fucking..."
Thorin couldn't hold back any longer and let out a heavy sigh, as if thinking of himself who had wasted so many years.
"Many people start out as adventurers to seek thrills, but once they actually get into this line of work, they start to hate the perilous life and just want to coast through life and earn enough for a drink."
"But you, damn it, you're like a mad dog. Maybe only someone like you, who constantly pushes himself to the limit in adventures, can grow up so fast."
He paused, then grinned, "Since you're still alive, how about teaming up with us again tomorrow? Let's bring Elsa along too."
"Elsa is injured and needs to rest for a few days. But I should be fine."
Logan checked his physical condition. Although the wound was still a little painful, with the help of the medicine, he should be fine tomorrow.
"Thorin, pick a quest with lots of monsters," Logan cracked his neck. "I want to have some serious killing."
"You're a fucking lunatic," Thorin laughed and cursed as he agreed, then led the two young men to the window to hand over the task.
After saying goodbye to the three, Logan went straight to Kruger's window.
Kruger hadn't read the newspaper today. When he saw Logan approaching, he immediately put on a respectful smile and pushed out a money bag.
"Mr. Logan, this is your due reward, a total of 75 gold coins, which has been converted into 7 platinum coins and 5 gold coins for you."
"To be honest, I really didn't expect that an unemployed Iron-rank squad like yours could get involved in a Bronze-rank mission, especially working with the guild's renowned level 2 squad, the [Silent Ones]!"
"My judgment was spot on! You're definitely a sure-fire investment with immense potential!"
75 gold coins, so the base reward for this mission is 150 gold coins. Moreover, there should be other hidden income for this kind of mission to clear out strongholds, such as the stolen goods in the stronghold.
Are bronze-level quests really that profitable?
It seems I need to get a job and level up my adventurer rank as soon as possible.
Combining the 50 gold coins from selling the longbow earlier, my profit from this trip reached 125 gold coins, plus the 1 platinum coin and 5 gold coins I found on the bald man—
A total of 140 gold coins, 70 gold coins per person.
They're back! They're all back!
All the money I spent before has come back!
My wallet is bulging again.
Elsa received a considerable amount of money, but she needed to pay off her loans first. Logan didn't want his teammates to be burdened with debt in future battles.
"How much money did Elsa borrow from you?" Logan got straight to the point.
Kruger gave him a knowing look.
"Miss Elsa borrowed 40 gold coins," the goblin said, moving his hand under the counter. "However, if you want to settle the loan early, in addition to the principal, you will also need to pay a penalty for early termination and interest, totaling... 46 gold coins."
Logan rolled his eyes at him.
After only one day of borrowing, I suddenly had 6 extra gold coins.
Logan pushed the money over.
"Help her settle the debt."
"As you wish, Mr. Logan!" Kruger smiled and pocketed the gold coins.
Even after removing 46 coins, Elsa still has 24 coins left, which is not a small amount.
With 70 gold coins in hand, I finally have enough money to pay for my next class with Instructor Soben.
Let's go.
Logan felt relaxed as he touched the hard platinum coin in his pocket.
Seeing Logan about to leave, Kruger quickly leaned out halfway and loudly began his sales pitch:
"Mr. Logan! If you ever want to buy a decent property in the East District, or need a mentor for one-on-one private combat skills training, please be sure to come to me, Kruger! I will always be your most loyal supporter!"
Logan waved casually and walked out of the hall.
The night breeze brushed against his face as Logan stood on the bustling streets of Riverwood, glancing up at the night sky.
Where to go next?
go home?
A beautiful face appeared in his mind.
Go see Adele.
