Chapter 28 On Heroes

Xu Yuan, holding his phone, looked utterly astonished: "You mean that person is Yang Minghao?"

"It's him."

"Why did he add me?" Xu Yuan asked, puzzled. "And what did he mean by saying 'Remember our promise?'"

Didn't he say before that he wanted to treat you to dinner?

"It seems there is such a thing. I thought he was just saying it casually," Xu Yuan thought for a moment and said, "But even if he wanted to bring it up, why didn't he just say it directly?"

Su Nian seemed a little speechless: "He said it's a bond between you guys, no need to say more, and he thinks you'll understand when you see this."

"Huh?" Xu Yuan was shocked. "How can anyone understand such nonsensical talk?"

"Since you don't mind him, then there's no problem," Su Nian continued. "He said he's waiting downstairs in your dorm and that you'd better hurry, as he seems to have something urgent to attend to and is pressing you hard."

"No, something's completely off..." Xu Yuan stroked his chin, his tone suspicious. "Why are you so concerned about this? When did you two become so close?"

"You're overthinking it," Su Nian explained without any hesitation. "He offered me a deal: if he could get you to come out for a date, he wouldn't bother me anymore. I agreed."

"What?!"

Xu Yuan instantly raised his voice, his expression one of utter anguish: "So what do you take me for? A bargaining chip?!"

Su Nian completely ignored his response: "Just tell me if you're going or not."

Xu Yuan declared righteously and sternly, "Even if I, Xu Yuan, starve to death, even if I jump off a building..."

Su Nian calmly interrupted his passionate speech: "I forgot to tell you, I haven't actually finished organizing your notes yet, there's still a little bit left."

Xu Yuan abruptly changed the subject: "Even if I starve to death, even if I jump off a building, I'll solve the class monitor's problems before I die!"

"That's more like it," Su Nian said with satisfaction, then added, "By the way, Yang Minghao is really in a hurry and keeps urging you, so please hurry up."

"walk slowly."

The two hung up the phone.

Xu Yuan put his phone in his pocket, stroked his chin and pondered for a moment: "Going out for a free meal isn't such a bad idea."

He didn't have any ill feelings towards Yang Minghao. In fact, he felt quite sorry for the unfortunate kid because of his repeated embarrassment on the playground. It was just a meal, nothing serious.

What? You want to know why he embarrassed himself? Then don't worry about that.

Xu Yuan casually put on his coat, grabbed his phone, and left the dormitory. He had only walked halfway down the corridor when, as if suddenly remembering something, he tapped his phone to check his account balance and found that there was very little left.

He reached into his pocket again and found only a handful of loose change he had taken from home. He couldn't help but sigh.

"Where can we get some money?"

Since returning home from his illness, he hasn't asked his mother for money again. Firstly, because he lives at home and doesn't need much money, and secondly, he's too embarrassed to ask.

Sometimes he would think about whether he should take on some part-time job given his current abilities, but when he thought about his unique work schedule and his weird left hand, he would silently give up the idea.

After all, my left hand is so stupid. What if I accidentally touch or move around randomly and get caught and stuffed into an orange? Wouldn't that be the end of me?

Thinking of this, Xu Yuan felt a little worried: "Sigh, we'll see when the time comes."

But thinking about it this way, being able to get a free meal from Yang Minghao is actually a good thing.

Thinking of this, Xu Yuan quickened his pace and soon left the dormitory building. However, after looking around, he couldn't see Yang Minghao at all.

"Didn't you say he was downstairs? Where is he?"

Xu Yuan looked around in confusion, his gaze suddenly drawn to a strange figure not far away.

The man was wearing dark sunglasses, a black mask that completely covered his face, and a hooded black outfit that made him completely covered up.

He crouched timidly behind a tree, his eyes scanning back and forth between the dormitory building and the park entrance, looking rather furtive.

Xu Yuan was stunned: "What kind of look is this?"

He was observing with great curiosity when the man in black suddenly looked up, met his gaze precisely, and then, with a start, jumped up and ran towards him, constantly reaching into his pocket with one hand as he ran.

"Holy crap, an assassin?!" Xu Yuan was startled as he watched the man's groping movements. "Is he coming for me?"

Without time to think, his gaze sharpened as he sized up the man in black who had already rushed towards him. Just as he was pondering where to strike, he heard the man in black speak in a deep, rumbling voice: "Xu Yuan, run!"

"Um?"

Xu Yuan paused, feeling that the voice sounded strangely familiar. The man in black pulled out a student ID from his pocket, and the three large characters "Yang Minghao" were printed on the open ID.

"Yang Minghao?" Xu Yuan was stunned, looking at him blankly. "What are you up to?"

"There's no time to explain, let's go!" Yang Minghao said urgently, gesturing for Xu Yuan to follow him.

The two walked towards the entrance of the men's dormitory area. As soon as they got close, Xu Yuan saw a group of people gathered at the entrance, making a commotion.

The leader was an obese girl with her hands on her hips and a fleshy face, speaking aggressively to a group of girls behind her.

When Yang Minghao saw that figure, his body trembled, his eyes filled with fear, and he subconsciously wanted to retreat.

Just then, two boys walked by together, and one of them asked curiously, "Isn't that the famous 'spherical tank' from our school? What's she doing here?"

The bespectacled guy next to her pushed up his glasses and lowered his voice, saying, "I heard that a guy this morning gave her a piece of his mind, even left his name, and said he was going to fight her to the bitter end."

"Holy crap, whose subordinate is this? He's so brave! What's his name?" another boy asked, his face full of shock.

The bespectacled boy thought for a moment and replied, "I didn't pay much attention, I just remember that his surname was Yang."

"Although it's satisfying to confront them head-on, it still feels too reckless. Isn't that just asking for trouble?" The boy couldn't help but shake his head and sigh.

"You don't understand," the bespectacled boy said slowly. "That guy once said that sometimes if you take a step back, the other person will take ten steps forward, so he would rather go all out and fight to the death."

The young man was filled with respect and couldn't help but exclaim, "He's trying to set a high standard and be a role model for all of us men! A true hero!"

Yang Minghao, who was wrapped up like a dumpling, couldn't help but chime in, "Do you think it's possible that he never wanted to be a hero in the first place?"

The boy objected: "Why isn't someone who dares to be a pioneer considered a hero?"

"That's true. How can someone like you understand someone else's bravery?" He glanced at Yang Minghao, who was bundled up tightly, and shook his head in disappointment. "If that guy were here, he definitely wouldn't be like you, hiding his face and afraid to show his face."

Yang Minghao: "..."

If you asked him to cheer for a hero, he would definitely volunteer, but he really doesn't want to be this unjustly chosen hero!

Besides, he didn't do this at all!

Even after the two boys had walked away, Yang Minghao remained rooted to the spot, looking utterly hopeless.

Seeing his distraught appearance, Xu Yuan asked curiously, "What's wrong with you?"

Yang Minghao snapped out of his daze and was about to speak when he suddenly noticed out of the corner of his eye that the girl at the door had vanished.

"Great opportunity!" Yang Minghao's eyes lit up immediately, and he quickly grabbed Xu Yuan, "Let's go, I'll explain later!"

After saying that, he lowered his head and rushed towards the park gate. Just as he reached the road, he turned around and saw that the group of girls hadn't gone far, and his steps froze on the spot.

The girls seemed to have noticed the commotion behind them. The girl in the lead, nicknamed "Spherical Tank," turned around abruptly and immediately locked onto Yang Minghao, who was fully armed.

"No, there's something wrong with him!"

"Yang Minghao is over there!"

She yelled at the top of her lungs, "Quick, grab him, take off his mask, take a picture, and hang it on the little green book!"

Yang Minghao's expression changed drastically. Without thinking, he said to Xu Yuan, "Meet at Ximen," and turned around to start running as fast as he could.

As he ran, he muttered angrily, "I already told you, you've mistaken me for someone else! The person you're looking for isn't me at all!"

"Not you? If it wasn't you, why were you covering yourself up so tightly? You must be hiding something!" The girl behind her persisted and quickly caught up.

Yang Minghao said no more and charged forward with all his might. The park entrance was instantly thrown into chaos as the chasing figures quickly disappeared into the distance.

Xu Yuan, who remained where he was, stared blankly at the chaotic scene before him: "What on earth is going on here?"

The three burly girls who had been following the main group were panting heavily after a few steps and fell behind. Their eyes quietly fell on Xu Yuan, who was standing there in a daze.

The three men exchanged a glance, walked straight up to Xu Yuan, sized him up, and said in a domineering tone, "Hey, you were just with that Yang Minghao, do you know him?"

Xu Yuan ignored him completely, not even raising an eyebrow, and turned around to walk towards the west gate on his own.

"I'm talking to you!"

Seeing his disregard, the girl in the lead immediately frowned, her tone becoming increasingly harsh, and she snapped, "Are you deaf...?"

Xu Yuan suddenly stopped, slowly turned around, and looked at them with a puzzled expression: "Are you talking to me?"

"..."

His tone was perfectly calm, devoid of any emotion, yet the girls seemed to have their throats gripped instantly, their arrogant expressions freezing on their faces.

When they met Xu Yuan's gaze, they felt a chill run down their spines, as if they had been locked onto by some lurking beast, and cold sweat poured down their bodies.

They felt that this person was different from all the boys they had met before, and a premonition arose in their hearts: if they dared to say another word, the consequences would probably be very bad.

The three who had been so aggressive just moments before were now trembling, their faces turning pale, and they opened their mouths but couldn't utter a single word.

"baffling."

Xu Yuan shook his head, not looking at them again. The way he looked at them seemed to be looking at the roadside weeds, not people.

He withdrew his gaze, turned around calmly, and strode away in the direction of the West Gate.

The girls stood there until Xu Yuan's figure disappeared into the distance. It was as if they had been freed from some invisible restraint, and their legs went weak, almost causing them to lose their balance.

"What was that person...?" The girl in the lead asked, her voice trembling.

No one answered; they didn't even dare to look up at his back.

Xu Yuan had already gone far away.

He didn't care about those people at all; he only had one thought in his mind—

"Yang Minghao is treating, we should be able to have a good meal tonight."

"Hmm... what should we eat?"
