Evil God? My servants are players!
Chapter 99 Veronica in Action
While the horrific events were unfolding in Hamlet, the main city of Salian, not far from Hamlet, remained peaceful.
Veronica is praying daily.
She knelt on one knee, clasped her hands together in front of the goddess's statue, just like the hyacinth had done before.
However, the hyacinth is kneeling on both knees.
After the prayer, Veronica met with the old butler of the Hamlet family.
Indeed, the old butler of the Hamlet family decided to continue serving Veronica instead of the patriarch of the Hamlet family, the Earl of Hamlet.
The Earl of Hamlet himself had no objection, so Veronica readily agreed to the old butler's request.
In reality, this old butler was quite perceptive.
He probably already knew that staying by the Earl of Hamlet's side would not end well.
"Speak, what do you want from me? I really don't know why you insisted on following me. I live and eat at the church, and I don't need or can use a servant."
In response to Veronica's question, the old butler bowed deeply and said:
"Lady Veronica, many things still require a lot of expenses. With me here to help you manage them, there will be far fewer troubles."
"Alright, alright, stop being so polite. Tell me, what's the matter that you're in such a hurry to see me?"
Veronica waved her hand, interrupting the old butler's speech.
"Lady Veronica, something may have happened in Hamlet Town..."
Before the old butler could finish speaking, Veronica stood up abruptly.
"What?! Can you confirm this?"
"It hasn't been confirmed yet, but something must have happened. I've already sent people to check it out."
Veronica did not question the butler. The old butler had served her for many years, and she knew that he would not speak without reason.
"Tell me the clues you have."
Veronica frowned, but sat back down, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down.
"Sir, as you know, because of you, I have a past relationship with the bishop of the Church of Holy Light in Hamlet Town."
He hasn't replied for several days since the last letter.
"And you know, I'm also helping you manage your remaining business in Hamlet."
"I haven't received any real-time updates from them for two days."
"All other signs indicate that Hamlet has been cut off from the outside world."
"The situation is the same as last time, Lady Veronica."
The old butler calmly recounted the information he knew.
Veronica took a deep breath upon hearing this.
Do you know what you're saying?
Despite Veronica's slightly threatening tone, the old butler remained calm and unhurried, saying:
"Of course I know, but that's just how it is, Lady Veronica."
Veronica anxiously tiptoed and asked:
"So? What are you trying to say?"
Under Veronica's questioning, the old butler finally revealed his purpose.
"My lord, perhaps you should go back and take a look. After all, you are the heir of the Hamlet family, and that is your territory."
"But……"
Veronica still seemed unwilling to face the facts, but the butler preemptively spoke first:
"Sir, I am almost 70 years old. I even watched the master grow up."
"I feel sorry for the master even more than the adults do. I know how outstanding the master was in the past, and I also know how much the master loved the madam."
"In fact, the master died long before the madam passed away. What remains now is just a shell consumed by desire."
"I don't believe that the master would return to normal for no reason. He has just found another way to fulfill his desires."
"My lord, stop running away. Praying won't get you the result you want. I believe you understand all of this."
"Go back and see, even if it's just for the people of Hamlet."
Veronica remained uncharacteristically silent in the face of the old housekeeper's advice.
She just sat there blankly, seemingly daydreaming.
The old butler didn't leave either; he simply stood there, waiting for Veronica's orders, just as he always did.
After a long while, Veronica seemed to wake up from her dream.
She slowly stood up, while the old butler looked at Veronica with expectant eyes.
Then, Veronica opened her mouth and gave her final answer.
"I understand, I'll go back and check right away."
Upon hearing Veronica's answer, the old butler's face flushed, but he still carefully instructed her:
"Lady Veronica, you must be careful! Although you narrowly defeated the master last time, that was only because the master was not on guard against you."
"I see."
Then Veronica left without looking back.
--------
Just as Veronica was setting off, Hamlet's adventurers had finally finished their screening.
"Finally! Finally! It's finally over. If it hadn't ended, we would have been sleeping on the streets!"
Sasha watched the guards gradually withdraw and spoke with a tone full of melancholy.
"I already said I could 'borrow' some money, but you insisted on not letting me," the thief complained again.
"We haven't even bought any supplies. So what if we get into the dungeon? Are we going to eat the living plants from the sixth floor?"
"Borrowing this time, and then borrowing again next time? There will always be times when things go wrong; we can't let this precedent be set!"
Sasha gave him an expression that left no room for refusal.
"As long as I don't make a mistake, that's fine, isn't it?" The thief caught the loophole in Sasha's words.
"If you can get Luna to agree, that's fine, after all, she's the captain," Sasha said nonchalantly.
But those words silenced the thief.
Then, the Frost Adventurers fell silent again.
After a while, the thief who had been observing said:
"Alright, that's about it. Every 3 minutes, there will be a hole in the left side of the field."
"I'm about to activate my skill, so you all need to stick close to me, understand?"
The other two nodded in agreement.
Then the thief calculated the time accurately and began to count down.
"3, 2, 1!"
The thief suddenly transformed into a cloud of black mist, enveloping the remaining two.
Then, the black mist gradually dissipated, turning into a barely perceptible shadow on the ground.
Under the thief's cover, the three of them crept towards the entrance of the Sien Dungeon.
The three of them managed to avoid the guards without any serious injury.
After disengaging from stealth, Sasha stretched her body and said:
"This is the first time I've seen such a deserted dungeon entrance."
"Ah!" the soldier suddenly cried out.
"What are you doing!" The thief was startled.
"It's nothing, I just suddenly realized that the dungeon entrance has an echo," the warrior explained.
"Alright, let's go find the priest first; she might be getting impatient," Sasha advised.
"Are you getting impatient? Maybe you're starving. What if you find out we didn't bring her anything to eat and then gulp us down?"
The warrior seemed to know the priest quite well.
The group quickly returned to their temporary camp.
However, the condition of the temporary camp took them by surprise.
