Evil God? My servants are players!

Chapter 84 Strange Things in the City

In response, Sasha had no choice but to speak out:

"Alright, alright, stop arguing. The Adventurer's Code states that there should be no factional disputes within the adventure party."

"Everyone, calm down. As for where to go, we can go to all of them and find out what's going on."

"Let's head straight to the Church of Holy Light for our first stop; it's relatively close. After that, we'll go to the Thieves' Guild, and finally the Shadow Guild."

Sasha's words successfully put the two of them aside for the time being.

After a cold snort, the priest and the thief sat back down, without mentioning the previous conflict again.

But the thief couldn't stop chattering, and he continued to complain:

"This empire is finished. An old and foolish emperor, unrestrained nobles, corrupt institutions, and uncontrolled organizations."

"I bet a gold coin that the empire won't last ten years."

"Alright, alright, be careful, walls have ears. Let's get going."

Sasha had to get the team moving to avoid falling into endless arguments again.

Afterwards, the Frost Adventurers arrived at the Church of Holy Light.

Just as Sasha led the team inside, the thief stood still.

"Aren't you going in?" Sasha asked the thief.

"No, why would a thief who believes in the Shadow Cult go into the Cathedral of Holy Light? You can go ahead," the thief explained.

"Alright, we're all teammates, and we've been together for so long, let's put our differences aside for now."

Sasha sighed helplessly and continued to try to dissuade him.

"It's not a contradiction. You know, I rarely went to the Church of Holy Light before."

"That happened before Captain Luna smoothed things over between you. Are you going to bring up old grievances again? The captain will be hurt."

The warrior, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke, and with just one sentence, both the priest and the rogue lowered their heads in shame.

"I'm not being difficult, but I have something more urgent to do, something that belongs to thieves," the thief further explained.

"Okay, I believe you." Sasha didn't pursue the matter further; she simply patted the thief on the shoulder.

Then, led by Sasha, the three entered the Church of Holy Light.

The thief disappeared after a stealth attack.

They were received by the local bishop, but the bishop seemed to look somewhat strange.

"Isn't this the Frost Adventurers? What brings you here?" The bishop's voice was full of warmth.

"Your Excellency, we seem to have discovered signs of the undead rampage and wish to report this here."

"Oh? Really? Then can you tell me where you found it?"

Just as Sasha was about to continue speaking, she suddenly felt someone tugging at the hem of her clothes at a specific frequency.

It's a special code within the squad, meaning: Something's wrong, retreat now!

Sasha looked around but didn't find anyone around her.

Sasha quickly realized that it was the vanished thief pulling her.

Trusting her companion, Sasha had no choice but to fabricate a lie on the spot:

"I saw the spirits of the dead wandering in the cemetery outside the city."

"Oh? Don't you have a priest in your party? She should be able to purify some wandering undead, right?" the bishop pressed.

"Of course, Your Excellency, we have already purified it, but to prevent this from happening again, we are just here to report it," Sasha explained.

"We'll send someone over. Is there anything else?"

"Without Your Excellency, we will leave now."

"Really? Won't you sit a little longer?"

"No need, Your Excellency, we still have to go on an adventure in the dungeon."

"The dungeon." Bishop Gan chuckled twice. "You've been asking about the strange occurrences in the dungeon lately, haven't you? Can you tell me what you've discovered?"

When pressed by the bishop, Sasha simply gave a perfunctory answer:

"We didn't find anything special. Our intelligence is mostly bought from the Adventurers' Guild."

After hearing Sasha's answer, the bishop paced back and forth around the three of them, saying slowly and deliberately:

"Really? You know absolutely nothing?"

"As a top-tier adventure team, you lost your captain down there and have been lingering in the city, searching for information about the dungeon."

"You must know some different information, right?"

"For example, what exactly lies deep within the underground city?"

Sasha was already drenched in sweat.

"Your Excellency, we really don't know anything."

Just when Sasha thought the Lord's Church was about to make a move, the bishop changed his tone and said:

"Alright, if you don't know, then you don't know anything. I'll handle the matter of the necromancer sect. If you have nothing else to do, then you can leave."

"Then we'll have to trouble you, Your Excellency." With that, Sasha prepared to leave with her entourage.

"Wait a minute. Don't leave yet. Why not call out our friend hiding in the shadows and have a chat?"

The bishop, who had intended to let the Ice Adventurers leave, still chose to cause trouble.

Upon realizing he had been discovered, the thief immediately exited stealth mode.

He then threw the dagger at the bishop, before warning his companion, "Run! He's not the bishop!"

Only then did everyone belatedly realize that they should draw their weapons and fight the bishop.

But when they reached for their weapons, they discovered that they had been taken away when they entered the conference hall.

The thief had retrieved the weapon beforehand, and he then tossed it to his companions.

"He's stalling for time. The guards have surrounded us. Don't get entangled with him!" the thief warned.

But at that moment, the bishop was already standing in front of the only door.

His tone was no longer concerned; instead, he said calmly and indifferently:

"Don't even think about running away. You can't get out. Nobody can get out."

"Why? Your Excellency, why are you doing this?"

The female priest looked at the bishop with some disbelief.

"Stop wasting your breath on him; he's just stalling for time."

"Let's jump out the window and run before the guards can finish surrounding us."

After saying that, the thief grabbed the priest, smashed the window, and ran outside.

Seeing this, the others followed suit.

The bishop, seeing this, did not give chase, but instead tended to his wounds.

Indeed, the thief's throwing knife struck the bishop's crown directly, penetrating through it and embedding itself deep in the bishop's brain.

The bishop removed his crown, and his face melted like a candle, the throwing knife embedded in his brain falling out with it.

The bishop revealed his true identity: the Earl of Hamlet.

But the higher-ups in Hamlet knew that the Earl of Hamlet was still in the castle dealing with town affairs.

So who exactly is this bishop? Or who is in charge of handling affairs in the castle?
