Evil God? My servants are players!
Chapter 124 Preparations Complete
"Lady Hyacinth, do you know what's wrong with those townspeople? Can they be cured?"
Veronica found Hyacinth reading a book and asked her from outside the goblin's protective circle.
Hyacinth suddenly closed the book in her hand, as if she had been stimulated by something.
And the book in Hyacinth's hand is 'speaking':
"Hyacinths? What happened? I can't see anything!"
"Hyacinth? That's strange. Is my phone broken?"
Then, with lightning speed, Hyacinth hung up the phone in Veronica's blind spot.
Meanwhile, Binglinghua on the other end of the phone was getting anxious when the call was suddenly disconnected.
"Don't be naughty! How am I supposed to chat with Hyacinth if you break down?! Wake up! What's wrong with you?! Does your phone need water?"
Hyacinth was unaware of the Ice Flower's tragic fate; she was currently dealing with the sudden arrival of Veronica.
Hyacinth looked in the direction Veronica was pointing and saw a group of strange-looking people gathered there.
These people reminded Hyacinth of those mutated goblins who became normal after going to the Kingdom of God.
So the hyacinth replied, "Yes."
As Hyacinth began to talk to Veronica, the goblin guards also stepped aside.
"That's great! How can it be treated? Can it be treated now?" Veronica asked eagerly.
"It can't be cured now, and I don't know how to cure it," Hyacinth, the girl with no connections, replied calmly.
"When should we start treatment?"
"Maybe we'll have to wait until things are over," Hyacinth said ambiguously, thinking of the goblins' victory celebration.
"Okay." Veronica gave up asking further questions.
Veronica didn't blame Hyacinth, after all, the townspeople's situation looked very troublesome and probably required a lot of preparation.
"By the way, are these symptoms contagious?" Veronica suddenly thought of something else.
"No," Hyacinth replied after thinking for a moment. After all, by the time she arrived, the mutated goblins had already been subdued, and Hyacinth did not witness any transmission of contamination.
However, these mutated townspeople do not actually spread the pollution, or rather, the pollution is spreading, but no special symptoms will appear in a short period of time.
Just like goblins, they only undergo slight evolution when exposed to polluted radiation for extended periods.
After hearing Hyacinth's answer, Veronica breathed a sigh of relief and began to organize the resettlement of these mutated townspeople.
Although normal townspeople would still subconsciously stay away from these mutated townspeople, no one stood up to protest or say they were unwilling to accept these mutated townspeople under such high pressure.
Or perhaps those people died in the first wave of the Eclipse, since they are the ones who love to shout and yell in dangerous situations.
The townspeople who survived are all pragmatic and sensible.
Seeing that the townspeople were relatively well-behaved, Veronica prepared to set off again to rescue more townspeople.
However, after Veronica left the dungeon, she saw a group of unexpected figures.
Veronica was shocked to see a group of resurrected beings leading a group of mutated townspeople toward the underground city.
"Ugh, this quest is really tough. These NPCs don't believe us at all. We had to beg them to come with us."
"It's because our levels aren't high enough that we can only do these kinds of minor tasks."
"Indeed, this seemingly insignificant task was prepared for us."
"If only we were a little more shameless, we could have gained a lot of experience by hitching a ride with the big shots."
"It's not easy to hitch a ride with a car team. The pros go very fast, and you can easily fall behind if you're not careful. Plus, you can easily get killed by monsters if you're not careful," said a player who had hitched a ride with a car team.
"Hello, what are you doing here?" Veronica called out to one of the players.
"Doing a quest?" the player replied, without stopping but continuing deeper into the dungeon.
Veronica could also hear their conversation.
"That's a newly introduced NPC! You're just talking to her like that? Maybe there's a hidden quest involved?"
"Hidden quests? Ha! Every NPC has their own story, but aren't they all generated by AI with a single click? Besides, I don't care if a super long and difficult quest only gives me a pittance at the end."
"Indeed, what can hidden quests offer? Rare weapons? You can make those yourself. Gold and experience rewards? You get those from normal quests."
Although the resurrected ones usually talk incoherently, after spending some time with them, Veronica has roughly figured out their background.
They seem to be a kind of ant colony-like creature, with a king who issues all the commands. The king's orders are what the resurrected ones call tasks.
These resurrected beings will risk everything to complete the King's mission, and even death cannot stop them.
After completing the king's task, the king would reward them, which is why they would inexplicably gain power.
Moreover, they seemed uninterested in anything outside of the king's duties, only showing interest in interactions with members of their own tribe.
Veronica glanced back at the players, hoping to extract some useful information.
After all, they would most likely become neighbors or allies in the future, but Veronica knew nothing about these suddenly appearing resurrected beings.
Who is their "king"? The hyacinth?
What are their ultimate goals and demands? Is it just that they want more living space?
What power did they possess, and how did the Count of Hamlet use their power to accomplish such a thing?
But the most important thing right now is to save the townspeople. Although Hamlet Town has temporarily stabilized, the situation is still far from optimistic.
And so, Veronica and the Frost Adventurers continued their efforts to save the townspeople, occasionally slaying some Chaos Eggs that blocked their path.
The players were divided into two groups: one group consisted of veteran players and some new players, who continued to clear out the Chaos Eggs within the city.
New players who can't beat the Chaos Egg and don't want to join a caravan can save the townspeople in a relatively safe area.
Thanks to the efforts of all parties, the number of Chaos Eggs has been reduced to a critical level, below 500, and many townspeople have been rescued.
During halftime, the Frozen Adventurers and Veronica sat around the campfire.
"Our strength alone is still too small," Sasha sighed.
"Indeed, Hamlet is a very large town; they've only managed to rescue a few thousand people in all this time."
Veronica also sighed, even though the several thousand people she mentioned were already a rather terrifying number.
"Why not just eliminate the source of the danger directly? For example, take care of those mutated monsters," the warrior suddenly said.
Faced with the soldier's question, the group exchanged glances.
In the end, Sasha stepped forward to explain:
"It's too late. The mutated guards are too scattered, and the giant monster in the middle is always watching us."
"Indeed, the biggest threat is still that monster. If it launches an attack, the entire town of Hamlet will be destroyed in a short time, and even I can't stop it. So we must rescue the townspeople as soon as possible," Veronica agreed.
"Then why not ask for help? Just like when you came, break through the city's protective magic circle directly," the warrior pressed.
Veronica threw a piece of firewood into the campfire, and seeing the nearly extinguished fire reignite, she explained to the warrior.
"I've tried it. The newly appeared protective magic circle is very strange. It seems to be the product of some underground city's anomaly. Even I can't break it. Moreover, the core of the magic circle is right under the feet of the giant monster."
"So we're trapped?" Despite saying that, the soldier didn't show any despair; he remained resilient.
"Maybe. All our hopes are now on those resurrected ones. Let's hope they really have the ability to deal with that monster."
Veronica looked at Hyacinth, who was reading a book.
However, as if sensing Veronica's gaze, Hyacinth put down her book and looked over here.
Under Veronica's astonished gaze, Hyacinth walked towards them.
"The ceremony is ready, it's time," Hyacinth said bluntly.
