Mortal: Traveling Between Two Realms with Mei Ning to Pick Up Trash
Chapter 7 Inside the Cave
The three arrived at the door, which was unlocked, or rather, the restriction had been lifted.
Mei Feng reached out and pushed the door open, which slowly opened inwards.
A musty smell wafted from inside, like a cellar that had been sealed for a long time had just been opened; the smell was not pleasant.
Behind the door is a passageway.
Mei Feng's hand flashed, and a bright light appeared, which should be some kind of lighting spell.
The three of them stepped into the passageway.
Zhou Yu was on edge, constantly alert to any possible situation.
After walking for about the time it takes to brew a cup of tea, the passageway came to an end.
A stone chamber.
It wasn't large. There were oil lamps in the four corners of the stone chamber, but the oil had long since dried up. In the center was a table with several jade bottles, a wooden box, and a token on it.
There are two more doors on the other side of the stone chamber, leading to who knows where.
Mei Feng went in first to investigate and, after confirming that there was no obvious danger, breathed a sigh of relief.
"It seems that this Golden Core senior has indeed left, or passed away peacefully." His tone became a little more relaxed. "The cave dwelling didn't have any offensive restrictions set up, which means he wasn't in a hurry when he left."
Mei Feng walked to the stone table, picked up a jade bottle, and smelled it.
"The Qi-Nourishing Pill," he frowned, "but most of its spiritual energy is dissipated, so its use is limited."
He then picked up the other jade bottles and examined them one by one. Some contained Peiyuan Pills, some contained Bigu Pills, and some were pills he didn't recognize. However, because they had been stored for too long, their medicinal properties had been somewhat diminished, but they were still usable.
"What a pity," Mei Feng sighed.
Pick up the wooden box, open it, and inside is a jade slip.
Mei Feng picked up the jade slip, sensed it, and a smile appeared on his face.
"Cultivation technique," he said. "The Canglang Technique, a water-attribute cultivation technique that covers everything from Qi Refining to Core Formation. Although it was left behind by a Golden Core cultivator, its grade seems to be average."
Mei Feng handed the jade slip to Mei Ning.
"Little sister, take a look, maybe it will be useful to you."
Mei Ning sensed for a while, then shook her head.
"It's not suitable for me," she said, then handed the jade slip to Zhou Yu. "You can try it."
Zhou Yu took it and, imitating them, sensed the jade slip.
A flood of information rushed into my mind, like someone was showing me a movie: cultivation procedures, accompanying spells, and a considerable amount of content.
In terms of compatibility with myself, it's quite high, after all, I have a water-attribute spiritual root.
Zhou Yu looked at Mei Feng and Mei Ning.
"This...me?" Zhou Yu was somewhat uncertain.
"Take it," Mei Feng said, waving his hand. "My sister and I each have our own preferred techniques, so this 'Canglang Technique' won't be of much use to us."
Zhou Yu didn't say much and put the jade slip into his storage bag.
"And this token," Mei Feng picked up the last item, "I can't tell what it's made of, and there aren't any markings on it. It's probably the identity token of the cave owner or some kind of pass."
After saying that, he put the token away.
"Let's go take a look over there." Mei Feng pointed to the door on the other side.
The three of them walked over.
Behind the door was another stone chamber.
It was half the size of the previous one, but what was inside stunned the group.
Spirit stone.
The items were scattered haphazardly on the ground, probably around a hundred yuan.
Mei Feng walked over, squatted down, flipped through the pieces, picked one up, weighed it in his hand, and grinned from ear to ear.
"This should last us a while."
Mei Feng turned to look at Zhou Yu and Mei Ning.
"How do we divide it?"
Mei Ning thought for a moment, "Three points will do."
"Alright." Without another word, Mei Feng divided the spirit stones into three piles. "Brother Zhou, these are yours."
Zhou Yu squatted down and looked at the pile of spirit stones, wondering if it would be enough to buy some pills.
"Let's go see if there's anything else," Mei Feng stood up and walked inside.
At the very back, there is another door.
This door is larger than the previous two, and it is engraved with runes. The restrictions on it do not seem to have completely failed.
Mei Feng walked to the door, sensed it, and his expression became serious.
"The restrictions on this door are still in place," he said.
He turned to look at Mei Ning and Zhou Yu.
"Should we open it?"
Zhou Yu had a bad feeling. There was no danger in front of the Golden Core Cave, but what was behind the door was probably the real treasure or danger.
"Open it." Mei Ning said firmly, "Since we're already here..."
Mei Feng nodded and began to break the restriction by forming hand seals.
Time passed little by little.
More and more beads of sweat appeared on Mei Feng's forehead.
Zhou Yu stood to the side, his hand on his storage bag, ready to take out the Immortal Binding Net at any moment.
"It's open!" Mei Feng shouted in a low voice.
The stone gate suddenly opened with a roar.
Inside was a small, secret room, but what was in the very center of the stone room made the three of them hold their breath.
On the stone platform, a skeleton sits cross-legged.
In front of the skull was a jade box.
The jade box was entirely emerald green, clearly no ordinary object. It was covered with dense runes, more complex than the previous restrictions.
Behind the skeleton, there were several lines of text on the stone wall.
Mei Feng leaned closer to look and read it aloud.
"I am Cang Langzi, a rogue cultivator. I have cultivated diligently all my life and finally reached the Golden Core stage, but I am not destined for the Nascent Soul stage. My lifespan is coming to an end, so I left this cave to await a destined person. The jade box contains the fruits of my life's work. The restrictions here cannot be opened by anyone who has reached the Golden Core stage."
After Mei Feng finished reading, he fell silent.
It can only be opened with the Golden Elixir.
Of the three, one had completed Qi refining to perfection, one had reached the ninth level of Qi refining, and one had just completed Qi refining.
Mei Feng scratched his head. "Let's put this in a storage bag first. There's nothing we can do if we can't open it."
Mei Ning nodded and turned to walk out.
Zhou Yu walked at the back and glanced at the skeleton, feeling as if the perspective was a farewell to them.
……
We arrived at the cave entrance.
"See? I told you, there was no danger at all." Mei Feng stretched, his tone smug. "The Golden Core Cave is nothing special, easy peasy, a piece of cake."
Mei Ning pursed her lips and didn't reply.
Sudden.
A voice came from behind.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind.
"You all look like you've had a very fruitful trip!"
"who!"
Mei Feng's smile vanished instantly, his voice deepened, and his right hand reached for the magical artifact at his waist.
Zhou Yu's heart skipped a beat, and his right hand instinctively reached for his storage bag, ready to pull out the Immortal Binding Net at any moment.
Two people jumped out of the sea.
Two splashes of water erupted on the surface of the water beside the reef, and two figures leaped up one after the other, their bodies completely dry, clearly having used some kind of water-repelling magic.
One was thin and small, the other was tall and big.
The tall young man spoke first, with a smile on his face.
"My name is Xixi. It seems you fellow cultivators have made some gains. I wonder if you all could..."
He rubbed his fingers together with a smile.
The skinny young man grew impatient and took a step forward.
"Brother Xi, why waste words with them! Just take it! Do we, from Jiyin Island, need to explain what we're doing?"
Extremely Yin Island.
As soon as those three words were uttered, Mei Feng's expression changed, and Mei Ning's brows furrowed slightly.
Zhou Yu frowned. Extreme Yin Island?
"Hey—" Xixi drawled, reaching out to stop the skinny young man beside her. Her smile remained unchanged, but her gaze swept over the three of them before finally settling on Mei Ning, lingering for an extra second.
"Dongdong, you're mistaken. Didn't you see a pretty young lady next to you?" He tilted his head, revealing a set of yellow teeth with a smile. "We need to be more courteous and not let people think that the people of Jiyin Island are all uncouth."
Dongdong pursed his lips and didn't say anything more, but his small eyes kept staring at the storage bags on the three people's waists.
Zhou Yu's face darkened.
Just then, a faint voice entered Zhou Yu's ears; it was Mei Feng's voice transmission.
"Both of them are at the peak of Qi cultivation, they're not easy to fight. If things go wrong, just run and don't look back."
Mei Ning remained calm and took half a step forward, blocking Zhou Yu behind her.
Xi Xi's smile remained unchanged, but his gaze swept back and forth between the three of them.
Mei Feng has reached the Qi Refining Perfection stage, the same level as him and Dongdong. Mei Ning is at the ninth level of Qi Refining, lower than them, but she might not have the advantage in a two-on-two fight. As for that little newbie at the first level of Qi Refining...
Xixi's gaze fell on Zhou Yu, paused for a second, and then looked away.
"The three of you," Xixi spoke again, her tone a little softer than before, "I, Jiyin Island, am always easy to talk to. How about this, give me half of what you got in the cave, consider it making friends. If you encounter anything in the Chaotic Star Sea in the future, just mention my name, Xixi, and it will work."
Mei Feng chuckled.
"Give me your name?" He raised an eyebrow. "Xixi? I'm Beibei, is naming yourselves this casual on Jiyin Island?"
Dongdong's face flushed red instantly, and he drew a short blade from his waist, the blade gleaming with a faint blue light.
"You fucking want to die—"
"Wait a minute."
Mei Ning spoke up.
Dongdong paused for a moment, and Xixi also stopped smiling and looked at her.
Mei Ning looked at Xi Xi: "We didn't get much from the cave. If we give you half, we won't even have enough for our travel expenses with the other half, and besides—"
She paused, her gaze sharpening slightly.
"The two of you might not be able to keep the three of us here."
Xixi was silent for a few seconds, and the smile on her face finally disappeared completely.
"Alright," he said, his voice a few degrees colder than before, "Since you've put it that way, then we'll..."
Before he could finish speaking—
Dongdong suddenly moved.
It wasn't rushing towards Mei Ning, nor towards Mei Feng, but towards Zhou Yu.
The blue light on the short blade traced an arc, aiming straight for Zhou Yu's face. Dongdong was extremely fast, unleashing his fully refined spiritual power. With this strike, even a cultivator at the fifth or sixth level of Qi Refining would be knocked down, let alone a first-level Qi Refining cultivator.
Zhou Yu's pupils suddenly contracted.
He did not back down.
The moment the hand was pulled from the storage bag, a gray-white net appeared in the palm of the hand.
Spiritual energy surged in wildly, and the Binding Immortal Net suddenly unfolded in his hand, transforming into a large net several feet in diameter, covering Dongdong from head to toe.
Dongdong didn't react at all.
His short blade was still two steps away from Zhou Yu when he was caught in the net. The net tightened, and he screamed as the short blade fell to the ground. He struggled desperately, but the more he struggled, the tighter the net tightened.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
Xixi's smile froze completely on her face.
He looked at the thing curled up on the ground, unable to speak.
Mei Feng and Mei Ning were also stunned; they didn't know Zhou Yu had this trick up his sleeve.
But Mei Feng reacted the fastest. He took a step in front of Xi Xi, and his magical artifact was already extended.
"Do we still need to split it in half?" Mei Feng asked with a smile.
Xixi slowly raised her hands.
"Fellow Daoist, it's a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding." His voice was a little hoarse, and his eyes darted around. "We were blind to your greatness. We don't want the things anymore, but this person... can this net be untied?"
Zhou Yu didn't speak, not because he didn't want to, but because he simply didn't have the strength. His dantian felt empty, as if it had been hollowed out.
Mei Ning and Mei Feng exchanged a glance and made their decision.
