Chapter 65 Shooting the Album Cover
Taihe Music's planning meeting will be held a week before the album's visual shoot.
In the conference room, Chen Zhu, the head of A&R, laid out three photographer proposals on the table. Next to him was Nie Yongzhen, the design director recommended by Taihe and the founder of Taiwan Yongzhen Emergency Design Studio.
He has been collaborating with HIM International Music since Hebe Tien's first solo album, "To Hebe," in 2010, and has designed the cover for every one of Hebe Tien's solo albums.
He spread out several sets of reference photos on the table, saying that after listening to the three songs in the EP, he determined a visual line: it is not a deliberately staged couple photo, but two people standing in the same beam of light, neither of them needs to speak, but everyone knows that they are from the same country.
"If the cover can also convey this 'unintentional yet confident' atmosphere, then it's good."
Xiao He leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly on his thigh. Only after Nie Yongzhen finished explaining the plan did he speak: "No need for such complexity. On the cover, one person is standing, and another is sitting in front of her. It's not a couple's photo, nor is it a siblings' photo. Let the audience interpret their relationship."
"Uncertainty about the relationship?"
Liu Yifei thought to herself, "This brat, is he doing this on purpose?"
Liu Yifei turned her head to look at him, then looked away from his profile and down at the suggestive reference images on the table, her ears turning a subtle pink.
It seems that my thoughts have subtly changed since that hug and passionate kiss.
Nie Yongzhen closed her laptop and nodded: "This is a good direction. Let's finalize the styling first, then we'll do a studio shoot next week."
After the styling meeting concluded, the costume assistant pushed in two rows of clothes racks filled with garments.
Liu Yifei flipped through the items one by one, her fingers stopping on a misty blue satin slip dress.
The color complements her skin tone, the cut is flowy, and it reveals more of her collarbone area.
"How about this one?"
"It looks good. But won't you be cold when you take photos wearing this?"
"The studio has heating."
She carried the clothes hanger toward the fitting room, and as she passed him, she suddenly slowed down and said something in a voice only he could hear.
"Or are you afraid you won't be able to control yourself after watching it?"
What did you say?
Liu Yifei was stunned. Was this really something Liu Yifei said?
"Sissi, now that you say that, I'm really looking forward to it."
Xiao He leaned against the gantry and watched her walk into the fitting room with the satin dress in her hand.
He switched the water bottle from his left hand to his right, then back again, and said to the curtain, "Sister Qianqian, are you too shy to come out?"
There was a long silence behind the curtain, then her voice came: "Who do you think you are? I'm your older sister. I've seen more of the world than you have."
The curtain was suddenly pulled open a crack.
Liu Yifei peeked out with half her face visible, the thin straps of her satin dress still hanging on her collarbone, and she wore a creamy white knitted cardigan that hadn't been properly arranged over it.
The misty blue color made her look as if she were bathed in soft lantern light.
The main feature is that a lot of the chest area is exposed, and you can see the beautiful, slightly bulging breasts.
"How is it?"
"It's huge."
"What?"
"Oh, no, it's beautiful."
"Sigh, your eyes are getting more and more mischievous."
"Sister Sisi, I'm not happy with what you're saying. Do you think I'm being dishonest?"
"What is that?"
Xiao He raised his hand: "My hands might want to wander off too, is that okay?"
"I'll bite you to death."
Liu Yifei gritted her teeth, her gaze trembling slightly, then picked up a spare clothes hanger hanging on the gantry and made a gesture as if to knock it on him.
She laughed as she held the clothes rack halfway up in the air, then rolled her eyes at him before turning and walking toward the dressing room.
She took a couple of steps and then turned back, her voice very soft, almost as if she were talking to herself: "You should still wear a white shirt. Simple, clean, and a perfect contrast to my satin skirt. When you wear a white shirt, it's best not to button the top button."
Why?
"If you wear a hat, it will look very formal, like an awards ceremony. If you don't, you'll just be yourself."
"What am I like normally?"
"Exactly, he always says things that are hard to understand when he shouldn't say them."
"Is it something highbrow or lowbrow?"
"roll."
She turned and walked towards the dressing room, this time without looking back.
Shooting day. Softbox lighting came from three directions, with a background of off-white and light gray gradients, and a creamy white shaggy carpet on the floor.
Nie Yongzhen set a very clear tone for this album: instead of pursuing the visual impact of the traditional idol album's pale, thin, youthful, or sharp look, she continued the natural yet refined texture of Hebe Tien's "To Hebe" era—fresh, breathable, and prioritizing a sense of breathing over a sense of style.
The overall atmosphere is gentle and commemorative: off-white, light gray, and milky white, with cotton and linen textures as the main colors, warm and soft lighting, and no strong shadows, like two people snuggling on the sofa on a lazy afternoon and staying there all day.
The styling team also drew on the simple makeup and hair principles they used when they did Hebe's "My Own Room": use as little highlighter as possible, make the base makeup as translucent as possible, and keep the hair in its most natural, fluffy state.
Liu Yifei wore a misty blue satin slip dress with a cream-colored knitted cardigan draped over her shoulders.
Xiao He stood beside her, wearing a pure white linen shirt with the top button undone at the collar, dark gray casual suit trousers, and no other accessories except for a thin silver chain on his left wrist that occasionally flashed under the light.
The first set of shots.
Liu Yifei stood in front of the backdrop, with a spotlight shining down from directly above, clearly outlining her collarbone and shoulder line. The photographer squatted in front of her with his camera in hand.
"Teacher Liu Yifei, look this way. Yes, tuck your chin in slightly, okay. Hold on."
Xiao He sat cross-legged in front of her, and Nie Yongzhen temporarily adjusted the plan: instead of letting him sit, she made him face away from the camera, leaving only the outline of his shoulder in the lower left corner of the frame.
The visual focus is entirely on Liu Yifei, who slightly tilts her head, her gaze looking beyond the lens and out of the frame.
Nie Yongzhen watched the live preview on the computer screen. The blurry dark silhouette against the misty blue satin dress created an atmosphere of "unintentional but confident".
Nie Yongzhen stood in the background, holding a light meter, and turned to Chen Zhu, saying, "This cover is a backup."
The second set of shots. A front-facing photo of the two. The photographer had them touch foreheads together, close their eyes, and press their faces against each other—the most common yet most difficult pose to pull off in Japanese couple photography.
After taking the photos, the photographer looked down at the screen and frowned slightly.
"This one is good, but it feels a bit too sweet. Let's change the pose. Xiao He, you sit, and Yi Fei, you stand next to him with your hand on his shoulder. Be intimate, but not forced. Xiao He, you just hold the hand she has on your shoulder."
Xiao He sat in front of the backdrop, one leg bent at the knee and the other straight.
Liu Yifei stood beside him, her left hand on his shoulder, the back of her hand resting just above his collarbone.
Xiao He raised his right hand and placed it on the back of her hand that was resting on his shoulder.
The shutter clicked for the first time. His hand covered the back of her hand, his thumb gently rubbing the web between her thumb and forefinger.
The shutter clicked a second time. He turned his head, his nose brushing against the inside of her wrist.
"Will this ever end?"
Liu Yifei warned in a low voice.
Xiao He smiled without saying a word.
"Teacher Xiao He, shift your gaze slightly towards the camera—yes. Teacher Liu Yifei, look down at him."
She lowered her head, her gaze shifting from the camera to his face.
Between the clicks of the shutter, she spoke softly in a voice only he could hear: "What were you thinking when you were brushing against my wrist just now?"
"I was wondering, you changed into two different sets of pajamas last night and walked around the living room. Did you want me to see it, or did you not want me to see it?"
"you……"
Liu Yifei was completely speechless. Had that brat figured it out?
The photographer peeked out from behind the camera: "This one looks great! Very natural. Keep it up, a few more."
