Back to 17, My Brother is the Cult Leader
Chapter 6 of the novel
When Fang Yuan came out of the office, there were hardly any people left in the corridor.
It was getting dark, and the corridor lights weren't on yet, so the lighting was a bit dim.
As he walked past the classroom of Class 2, Grade 12, he saw several people sweeping the floor inside.
One of them is Huang Xiaoming.
Huang Xiaoming's cast on his foot has been removed, but he is still using crutches, standing on one leg with the other leg barely touching the ground, sweeping the floor with a broom.
Fang Yuan walked in: "Why are you still on duty?"
Huang Xiaoming looked up, saw him, and smiled:
"I volunteered. It was too stuffy sitting in the classroom, so I came out to move around."
Fang Yuan took the broom from his hand:
"You rest, I'll sweep for you."
Huang Xiaoming didn't refuse, plopped down on the chair next to him, leaned his cane against the wall, and watched Fang Yuan sweep the floor.
"Were you called to Jiang Shan's office today?" Huang Xiaoming asked.
"Um."
"Did you get approved?"
"No, you're praising me."
Fang Yuan said while sweeping the floor,
"I ranked 33rd in this monthly exam, which is 12 places higher than my previous ranking."
Huang Xiaoming was stunned for a moment: "Really?"
"real."
"How many points?"
"Three hundred and nine."
Huang Xiaoming opened his mouth, then closed it again, and after a while said:
"You only got 340 on your final exam last semester, right?"
"Three hundred and forty."
"That's a lot of progress for you."
Huang Xiaoming's tone carried a hint of envy.
"I got 310 on the test this time, which is a step down. I've been losing focus in class ever since I injured my foot, and I didn't do well on several subjects."
Fang Yuan swept the trash into a pile and said:
"Your foot is almost healed now, so just keep at it. It'll only be a few months."
Huang Xiaoming repeated the number and nodded. "That's enough."
Fang Yuan put down the broom and sat down in the chair next to Huang Xiaoming.
The lights in the corridor suddenly turned on; someone passing by must have stomped their foot.
The orange light shone in, casting long shadows of the two people onto the opposite wall.
"Brother Xiaoming," Fang Yuan said.
"Um?"
"I chose humanities."
Huang Xiaoming turned to look at him, thought for a moment, and said:
"Your humanities grades are good, so choosing humanities was the right decision. I also studied humanities, and the Beijing Film Academy's Performing Arts Department considers humanities grades in their general education courses."
Fang Yuan nodded.
"Xiao Yuan," Huang Xiaoming said.
"You improved by twelve places this time. Can you improve by another twelve places in the next monthly exam?"
Fang Yuan thought for a moment and smiled: "Then I'd have to get twenty-one."
"Do you dare?"
Fang Yuan looked at the window at the end of the corridor. Outside the window was a gray-blue sky, and a few lights were on in the distance, twinkling like stars.
"Give it a try," he said.
In the days that followed, Fang Yuan began a life of going back and forth between school, library, and home, and began studying desperately.
I ultimately didn't attend the math tutoring class.
He felt it wasn't necessary; there was still time for math improvement, and he could still progress according to the plan.
Huang Xiaoming, on the other hand, had to attend classes during the day, tutoring classes at night, and tutoring classes on weekends.
There's no way around it; the foundation we laid before was too weak, and we were far behind.
Time flies, and it's already May.
Under the dumbfounded gazes of Liu Kai and Chen Xia,
In two consecutive monthly exams, Fang Yuan scored 420 and 460 points respectively.
His ranking also reached the top 20 in the class.
This was a complete upheaval for Fang Yuan, who had once hovered at the bottom of the class.
His name used to be associated with words like "holding back" and "bottom of the pack".
Now, his name is starting to appear at the top of the progress list.
They are even occasionally mentioned by teachers as positive examples in class.
"You're a real beast!"
Chen Xia looked at Fang Yuan and said speechlessly,
"You'll have no friends if you're this crazy."
"You can do it too," the property owner said with a smile.
"I'm not as twisted as you!"
"Why not give it a try? Maybe you can do it too."
Fang Yuan actually knew that something would happen to Chen Xia's family during the summer vacation after this semester.
Chen Xia's personality also changed drastically; the tomboyish, tomboyish girl she used to be was gone.
His academic performance improved rapidly in the first half of his senior year.
Some of the young men she used to hang out with started harassing her.
Fang Yuan, who happened to be passing by, saw this and stepped forward to chase away a few young men.
Therefore, the two had some contact.
Unfortunately, I moved abroad with my mother to settle down in the second half of the year.
Suddenly, Fang Yuan had an idea.
"There's something I need to discuss."
"What?"
"I want to write a novel, and I'd like to use you as the model for it. Is that okay?"
"Are you crazy! Have you really lost your mind? Writing novels? Why don't you just fly to the moon?"
"If—and I mean if—the novel were to be published, could you do what's written in the novel?"
Chen Xia froze for a moment, then clutched her chest.
"Fang Yuan, what are you thinking? Do you want me to cripple you?"
"I'm not as despicable as you think."
"Pah, you scoundrel!"
"That's settled then!"
"roll!"
That evening, Fang Yuan went to Huang Xiaoming's house for dinner again.
"Big star, what was your score on the last mock exam?"
"Shut up, as if no one knows you got 460 points."
"Tell me, how much?"
"320"
"Wow, not bad! That's an improvement of 10 points!"
"You little brat, you're asking for trouble, aren't you?"
"It's okay, just keep trying. If you can still score 320 on the college entrance exam, you'll basically pass."
"Tch, you think you're the one who calls the shots!"
Fang Yuan remembered that in his previous life, Huang Xiaoming scored 308 points and received an admission notice.
"Can we talk about something?"
"Spit it out!"
"You're so busy studying, can I use the computer at home?"
Huang Xiaoming glanced at Fang Yuan.
"What are you doing on the computer? Don't think that just because you've achieved some success you can start playing around."
"What are you thinking? I want to type on the computer; handwriting is too tiring."
"Lend me the printer as well."
"Tell me first what exactly you want to do?"
"It's nothing much, I just don't have any pressure studying anymore, so I'm a bit bored and want to write something!"
"Wow, what score did you get? You're already feeling no pressure?"
"It's enough for the college entrance exam anyway."
"You're just bragging."
"I want to write a novel, and after you finish your studies in university, I'll adapt it into a screenplay and have you act in it."
Huang Xiaoming spit out a mouthful of water and pointed at Fang Yuan without saying a word for a long time.
"I've made up my mind. I don't want to follow you anymore. You can cling to my coattails."
Fang Yuan said earnestly.
"Haha, okay, okay, I'll be waiting for you."
Huang Xiaoming laughed so hard he could hardly breathe.
"You're awesome!"
After much effort, Fang Yuan finally managed to get the computer and printer installed at his home.
Nowadays, computers are mainly used for typing and playing simple games; they don't even have internet access yet.
It took several minutes to boot up.
Fang Yuan typed a few words with a smile on his face.
The Diary of a Girl Who Went to College
Chen Xia has arrived.
Fang Yuan plans to change the setting of his previous life's novel version of "The Movie" to China.
The main character is named Chen Xia.
So every night after finishing my homework, I would start writing.
Rewrite as you recall.
Fortunately, my memory is becoming clearer.
After school that day, Fang Yuan handed Chen Xia a piece of paper.
Authorization letter? Chen Xia was puzzled.
"Wow, you're serious?"
"Of course, grant me permission to write a novel under your name."
"No, what kind of novels do you write? You won't do anything bad, will you?"
"Can I publish what I've done wrong? Hurry up, you're not scared, are you?"
"Screw you, what am I afraid of?"
Chen Xia took the pen and signed her name.
"Let me make this clear first, there's no licensing fee," Fang Yuan said happily as he accepted the money.
"If I get paid for the article, I'll treat you to dinner."
"You swindler!"
