Yin Yang Soul Searcher
Chapter 27 The Bodyguards Arrive
"You managed to survive until now after messing with someone of this strength!" Zhou Dahai felt a toothache.
Wang Pang sighed and couldn't help but pinch the bridge of his nose.
Bai Jueming stood to the side, feeling somewhat embarrassed. He hadn't provoked him; it was the one who misjudged him and then attacked him. He had been on the defensive the whole time.
The lean man, Wu Yuanzhi, continued, "His rank is one level higher than Brother Shan's!"
What?! Now Bai Jueming was shocked. How could they possibly fight this battle?!
I originally thought that with Brother Shan's backing, I could challenge Chu Jiangyuan, but it turns out Brother Shan is only a fifth-rank official? Do I have to ask Brother Shan to ask someone of a higher rank for help? I probably don't have that kind of face...
Thinking of this, Bai Jueming's heart stirred: "Are the other hall masters also fifth-rank?"
"No, that's not it. Brother Shan only became a hall master recently after advancing to the fifth rank. His strength is the weakest among all the hall masters. Many hall masters are only fourth rank," Zhou Dahai explained. "Otherwise, Brother Shan wouldn't be short of Yin-Yang Masters, and he wouldn't have let you join."
Phew, that makes things easier. It's relatively easy to get colleagues. I just never expected I'd end up working for the weakest hall master...
"That's good. Brother Shan can ask other colleagues for help."
Wang Pang reminded him from the side, "The other hall masters need to have more concrete plans, otherwise no one will take the risk with you."
Thinking of this, Bai Jueming leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes in anguish: "Let me think about it carefully. If I can't come up with something, I'll have to stay at the Yin-Yang Palace for the next few days."
The three of them then began brainstorming.
"Knock knock knock," a knocking sound came from the door.
The four men's thoughts were interrupted as they looked at the clerk standing at the door. The clerk shrank back somewhat guiltily: "Lord Bai, the head of the hall wants you to come over. He says the martial artists you recruited have arrived."
Bai Jueming's face lit up with joy, and he forgot all about planning: "I'll be right there."
The minor official slipped away quickly.
"Why would Brother Shan help you recruit martial artists? Did you ask him to?" Zhou Dahai asked suspiciously. The martial artists under the three of them were all recruited by themselves, and Brother Shan never took any money from his subordinates.
"It's a long story. Consider it my request. I'll explain later." Bai Jueming stood up, straightened his clothes, and hurried along the way.
The three people in the room looked at each other in bewilderment. "What do you mean, 'Let's say it was my request'? That's strange."
I hope this bodyguard won't let me down; my safety depends entirely on him. With him around, I don't have to hide in the Yin-Yang Palace all the time anymore; I can go to places with a bit more people.
Inside the main hall, Bai Jueming saw Brother Shan smiling, while a disciple dressed in Taoist attire stood below, with a high ponytail and a peach wood sword with a scabbard on his back.
"I've been busy dealing with your affairs all morning, come in quickly." Li Zhengshan waved to Bai Jueming outside the door.
Why does that back view give me such a familiar feeling? How strange. Bai Jueming entered the lobby with a scrutinizing gaze, and that ponytail...doesn't it look like a female bodyguard?
As his thoughts raced, he saw the Taoist disciple slowly turn around, revealing a handsome face.
Bai Jueming looked closely and saw that the woman's eyebrows resembled the dark blue of distant mountains, yet unlike the gentle and graceful eyebrows of ordinary women, they exuded a heroic spirit. Her nose bridge was like a towering mountain peak, straight and resolute, its sharp lines resembling the outline of majestic mountains.
If there were a few more bloodstains on this face... "Good morning, is that you?" Bai Jueming exclaimed in surprise.
Isn't this Han Xueshan, the one I saved on the way to Wutai Temple? Yesterday I even threatened her to cover up the crime, and I got a little something extra when we exchanged talismans.
Today we meet again and he's my bodyguard? What a twist of fate! I'm afraid I'm in for a beating!
Sure enough, when Han Xueshan saw who it was, her usually sharp features were also filled with shock. She clearly hadn't expected to encounter her savior here...
Han Xueshan instantly recalled how, after she was injured yesterday, this lecherous man had threatened, harassed, and intimidated her. She gritted her teeth and said hatefully, "It was you? You lecherous man!"
Han Xueshan instantly removed the peach wood sword from her back, but did not remove the scabbard.
Holding a sheathed peach wood sword, Han Xueshan struck Bai Jueming's arm hard without saying a word. That scoundrel took advantage of her yesterday; she had to teach that lecherous scoundrel a lesson today.
She certainly wouldn't kill her savior, but she could break his hand and then heal it without any aftereffects!
"Master, save me!" Bai Jueming shouted as he ran to the side.
The moment Bai Jueming recognized Han Xueshan as the newcomer, he was ready for battle.
He made a fist with his right hand, and a swirling black aura surged from his palm. He then squeezed hard at Han Xueshan, who was approaching with her sword, and the black aura in his palm scattered from between his fingers.
The scattered soul power instantly rushed towards Han Xueshan, swirling around her.
But it had no effect. The soul power only made Han Xueshan's sword-wielding hand pause briefly. That was it; Bai Jueming couldn't dodge this powerful and heavy blow.
Seeing that his weakness was of no use, Bai Jueming widened his eyes and shouted, "Heroine, let me explain!"
Han Xueshan's strength far surpasses that of the two assassins encountered yesterday. At the very least, the assassins needed half an incense stick's time to recover, while Han Xueshan merely caused them to pause. What the hell is this person's rank?!
In the blink of an eye, just as Han Xueshan's sword sheath struck Bai Jueming's arm, Li Zhengshan, who was sitting in the hall, exerted his strength.
Li Zhengshan made the same grasping motion as Bai Jueming, except that the vortex of soul power in his hand was much deeper. He squeezed hard at Han Xueshan. The scattered soul power instantly enveloped Han Xueshan.
The peach wood sword that Han Xueshan had been swinging with all her might fell to the ground with a "thud" the moment it touched Bai Jueming. Immediately afterwards, Han Xueshan's body went limp, and she uncontrollably collapsed onto Bai Jueming.
"What's going on between you two? Explain yourself!" Li Zhengshan sighed, rubbing his forehead. What grudge did these two have against each other...?
Bai Jueming first gave Brother Shan a grateful look, thanking him for saving his arm.
Then he looked at the delicate body he was supporting in his arms. The unique fragrance of melon wafted through the woman's hair and into Bai Jueming's nose. His heroic face finally revealed a hint of feminine fragility.
Li Zhengshan's weakened soul power made him almost completely overwhelmed by her.
Han Xueshan's eyes were like knives as she glared at Bai Jueming with hatred.
Don't look at me like that, your chest is hitting me so hard it hurts...
Bai Jueming seemed to sense the threat of death, so he quickly helped Han Xueshan to a chair nearby, then bowed slightly and took the opportunity to admit his mistake.
"My apologies, lady. You would have fallen if I hadn't caught you."
Then, taking advantage of Han Xueshan's weakness, she quickly explained to Brother Shan, "Brother Shan, yesterday I went to Wutai Temple... and Cheng Yanbing gave me some pills... I exchanged them for a few talismans... I haven't had a chance to tell you about this yet..."
Brother Li Shan didn't care about the profits his subordinates made, so it didn't matter if he talked about the pills.
"Miss Han, she helped you, why did you hit her?" Li Zhengshan looked at Han Xueshan with some confusion.
Sitting on the stool, Han Xueshan first took a deep breath to calm herself down, and then spoke.
"That scoundrel took advantage of my injury to harass, threaten, and intimidate me. I can't swallow this insult and want to teach him a lesson."
Bai Jueming was a little embarrassed. "Why do you say such things, you tomboy? You've ruined my image in front of my boss."
After listening to Han Xueshan's words, he looked at his subordinate who looked embarrassed.
Li Zhengshan sat up straight, leaning back in his chair, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
After scanning the two of them for a moment, he said in an irrefutable tone, "Miss Han, I hope that from now on, no matter what grudges you two may have, this matter ends here."
In short, Bai Jueming is my subordinate. If I don't protect him, who will?
