Yin Yang Soul Searcher

Chapter 25 The Secrets of the Body

It was already dark, and the moon was nowhere to be seen.

Dark clouds obscured the sky, and rain drizzled down on the earth. The cleansing of this battlefield in the mountains and forests began.

The blood-stained land was washed away, revealing the earth's true form. The surrounding vegetation greedily drank in the sweet dew.

Rainwater fell on Bai Jueming's back, washing away the bloodstains on his body.

As the blood beneath Bai Jueming gradually faded, the wound on Bai Jueming's back began to writhe, and at the same time, the spine that had made the metallic sound began to emit a pale red light.

Immediately afterwards, a trickle of blood began to flow from the pale red spine, spreading along the almost severed body all the way to the shoulder. Then, the wound began to heal on its own as if by magic.

After an unknown amount of time, Bai Jueming's breathing gradually calmed down. His body twitched uncontrollably twice, and Bai Jueming opened his eyes with deep exhaustion and confusion.

"Am I dead or not?" Bai Jueming muttered to himself, then sat up, clutching his throbbing head.

Bai Jueming looked around. Thankfully, he wasn't dead. It was the same scene as before he fainted, but the bloodstains had been washed away by the rain.

He touched his shoulder; the wound had completely healed. This body seemed extraordinary!

Bai Jueming could sense that he had not been rescued by anyone, but rather that something on his spine had healed its wound on its own.

"Never mind, now is not the time to think about it. I don't even know how long I've been unconscious," Bai Jueming murmured to himself, wiping his face haphazardly with the raindrops.

Despite his aching body, he checked the spot where the lightning had struck, but the assassin hadn't lost a single piece of equipment. It was truly a disappointment.

Bai Jueming dragged his body back to the town along the same route, where the carriage was still waiting quietly in the rain.

Leading the carriage, Bai Jueming arrived at an inn. He asked the waiter to take care of the horses, ate his meal, and then asked the waiter to bring him some clothes to change into.

The city gates of the capital were already closed for the night, so I had no choice but to stay here for the night and return tomorrow morning.

Outside the window, the quiet night was filled only with the patter of rain.

Inside the room, the candlelight flickered, casting a dim glow on Bai Jueming's face.

Bai Jueming sat at the table, sipping tea. He began to review the assassin's words from earlier that day. "Betrayed us, became a lackey of the court, and still have the nerve to ask who killed you?"

Who the hell did I betray? Who wants to kill me?

I've only been in this world for a few days and I've already betrayed my class? But the original owner didn't know either of them. Is he the mastermind behind Zhang He's scheme?

That shouldn't be the case. If it were the mastermind, would they send two Rank 8 warriors to kill me? Those are people who dared to target the Imperial Advisor! They must have even stronger people under their command. Or perhaps they thought Rank 8 Yin-Yang Masters were too weak, and sending two Rank 8 martial artists would suffice?

No, no. I'm not one of the masterminds. There's no such thing as betrayal. So, who did I betray?

By the dim candlelight, Bai Jueming stroked the teacup in his hand, beginning to ponder quietly.

"Bang!" A short while later, Bai Jueming slammed the teacup heavily onto the table.

Bai Jueming's face was half-hidden in the candlelight shadows, a dangerous smile playing on his lips. "I know who you are!"

What was my social class before joining the Yin-Yang Palace? A rogue cultivator! Where did I make a living? The black market!

I arrived in this world because the original owner accepted a mission on the black market. Later, while stealing minerals, we were discovered by the Yin-Yang Palace, and everyone was arrested. I woke up in the Heavenly Prison.

At that time, all the criminals were either executed on the spot or imprisoned in the dungeon. Not a single one escaped.

However, not only did he escape the Heavenly Prison unscathed, but he also joined the Yin-Yang Palace. This is the betrayal class!

How could someone who committed a capital crime be allowed to join the Yin-Yang Palace? If I were the person in charge of this matter in the black market, I would definitely guess that someone who was still alive leaked the information and exchanged it for the opportunity to enter the Yin-Yang Palace!

However, the original owner didn't leak the information because she was an Onmyoji (a type of Taoist priest) and helped investigate the case, which allowed her to clear her name!

Why didn't the assassin ask questions? It's unnecessary now. What is the black market? From the moment he joined the Yin-Yang Palace, the two sides were already locked in a life-or-death struggle.

He knew his employees well, at least he knew their own cultivation level. Otherwise, he wouldn't have sent two martial artists of the same level to assassinate him; it was almost certainly a death sentence.

If I'm not mistaken, the person who wants to kill me is Chu Jiangyuan! A black market broker who often does dirty work like murder and arson for powerful figures.

The original owner received the mission from him! The mission failed, so he began purging the traitors!

With this in mind, Bai Jueming's thoughts gradually became clearer. He poured himself another cup of tea.

Hiring someone to assassinate you is a common tactic in the black market. And since the assassins are two martial artists of equal skill, it's both economical and practical...

You brainless bastard, if I had betrayed my class, I would have brought the Yin-Yang Palace to arrest you long ago. Are you still alive?

Although Chu Jiangyuan was an extremely cautious person, very few people had ever met him.

However, among the more than twenty cultivators involved in the mining case, it's impossible that none of them recognized him. Moreover, he himself was one of them.

Why didn't the original owner confess before? Why didn't the other people who knew Chu Jiangyuan confess? That's impossible, because Yin-Yang Masters can talk to the dead! They can also create dreams to talk to the dead.

We need to find an opportunity to ask Brother Shan about this and see what's going on. Why haven't we caught the mastermind even though we know who's behind it?

As Bai Jueming's brainstorming session ended, the sound of rain outside the window gradually subsided. The night returned to silence.

He put down his teacup and asked the waiter for a bronze mirror. Only then did he feel like studying his own body.

Bai Jueming was shirtless, revealing his somewhat lean body with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. His abdominal muscles were clearly defined.

Bai Jueming took the bronze mirror in his left hand, stretched his arm to his right shoulder, and aimed it at his back.

By the candlelight, I could see that the deep, bone-revealing knife wound on my back had healed completely, leaving no scar. A warm sensation still emanated from my spine, nourishing my body.

What's wrong with my spine? I remember once when I was a teenager, I was playing around and my older sister accidentally hurt herself. She whipped herself with willow branches, drawing blood. I didn't tend to myself like that back then, did I? Could it be a passive effect triggered when I was low on health?

I wonder how many more times this passive ability can be used. I'll have to prepare more trump cards when I go out alone in the future. Who knows if this passive ability will be triggered again if I encounter something like this again?

The original owner was just an ordinary child, so where did he get this ability? He had no bottlenecks in cultivation and could be resurrected with full health even when his health was low.

Could it be related to the old man who guided me to become a cultivator? It seems I can only uncover this secret myself.

I need to find a martial artist as soon as possible. Making money is secondary; ensuring my own safety is the most important thing.

Thinking about this, Bai Jueming felt a headache coming on. Back in his immature teenage years, he'd fantasized about being a cultivator, flying and teleporting. But experiencing this firsthand made him realize it wasn't as idyllic as he'd imagined. Survival was paramount! Only by staying alive could he contribute!

He dressed and blew out the candles. Bai Jueming lay in bed and fell into a deep sleep; nothing happened that night.

The next day, after having breakfast at the inn, Bai Jueming was led to a carriage by the waiter. He paid the bill and rode away from the town.

Go back and return the carriage first, then have the shopkeeper come and look for the waiter's body. After all, the waiter died because of me; I'll compensate him when I've earned some money. The dead can't be brought back to life, and there's not much I can do. Killing the two assassins is a form of revenge for the waiter.

This is the cruelty of the cultivation world; even ants cannot choose their own destiny.

The morning sun wasn't too strong. There had been a light rain yesterday, and the air was filled with a misty haze. You could also smell the fresh scent of earth.

About an hour later, Bai Jueming drove into the city and headed straight for the carriage shop.

The boss was an overweight middle-aged man. Upon hearing the news of his employee's death, the boss was deeply saddened and sighed repeatedly.

With a "smack," Bai Jueming slapped the remaining three taels of silver into the boss's palm, instructing him to find the employee's body and give it a proper burial. He also told him that he would compensate the employee's family with money in the future.

The shopkeeper initially wanted to refuse, but couldn't resist Bai Jueming's insistence. He had no choice but to accept the money and promise to send people to find the body and give it a proper burial...
