Yin Yang Soul Searcher

Chapter 20 The Little Brother of the Taoist Temple

Once he was out of Han Xueshan's sight, Bai Jueming began to sprint with all his might. If he were caught, he would likely be beaten to a pulp.

A moment later, Bai Jueming crossed the small hill and arrived at the foot of Wutai Temple.

At first glance, the majestic mountain peaks rise abruptly from the ground, their massive and imposing forms reaching straight into the sky.

Looking into the distance, one can vaguely see a Taoist temple nestled among the green hills and cypress trees. At the foot of the mountain, winding stone steps, like a gray ribbon, slowly ascend the mountainside.

Occasionally, a few unnamed wildflowers peek out from either side of the stone steps, swaying gently in the breeze, adding a unique touch of color and vitality to the somewhat monotonous stone steps.

Having climbed halfway up the mountain, Bai Jueming sat down on the steps to rest. He casually pulled out a stack of talismans from his sleeve and began to examine them carefully. Having spent so much time in the black market, Bai Jueming naturally had a good eye for such things.

This stack of talismans is mostly composed of lightning strike talismans, the most offensive talismans of all. There are also wind-moving talismans for speed and vajra talismans for self-defense... We're rich! We're rich!

Bai Jueming couldn't hide the smile on his face. He was confident that as long as he sold these talismans on the black market, he could definitely jump from the proletariat to the middle class.

The middle class in the capital could easily become landlords in the countryside, living a monotonous life with a harem of wives and concubines.

Unfortunately, I've already joined the Yin-Yang Palace, so leaving the capital to become a wealthy man is probably impossible... But thankfully, the Yin-Yang Palace offers good benefits, and it would be even better if there were no dangers involved.

After resting for a while, Bai Jueming continued climbing. About fifteen minutes later, he could see the huge courtyard wall of the Taoist temple in the distance. The vermilion wall had lost most of its luster under the erosion of time.

As Bai Jueming approached the temple gate, the disciples guarding the gate on both sides stepped forward. The two disciples were wearing faded gray-blue Taoist robes.

He wore a pair of patched black cloth shoes and carried a slightly worn peach wood sword slung across his back.

"Please wait a moment, benefactor. May I ask what brings you to Wutai Temple?" A disciple bowed first, then stepped in front of Bai Jueming and asked.

Uh, these two don't recognize me? Didn't the original owner come here before?

Bai Jueming returned the greeting: "Two Daoist priests, I have come to Wutai Temple to see Bai Jueyu. Please inform him of my arrival."

"Bai Jueyu? May I ask who you and Senior Brother Bai are?...

Senior Brother Bai? Good heavens, the original owner's younger brother became a senior brother at such a young age? Isn't this ridiculous?

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Bai Jueyu, also known as Bai Jueming."

"Please wait a moment, Benefactor Bai, I'll go in and inform them." After saying this, the Taoist disciple went into the Taoist temple to report. Bai Jueming and another disciple waited there.

Before long, a boy of only fourteen or fifteen years old emerged from the temple. He wore a moon-white Taoist robe with a round collar, simple and elegant. The hem of the robe reached his ankles, swaying gently as he walked, giving the impression of a gentle breeze.

The front and cuffs of the Taoist robe are delicately embroidered with subtle patterns—the Eight Trigrams of Taoism—outlined with silver thread, appearing and disappearing in the shadows. The Taoist temple above is made of ebony, its design simple and elegant, gleaming softly in the sunlight.

And that handsome, dashing face was just as striking as his own. Their heights were about the same too.

Good heavens, this guy's eight years old? Do you believe it?

His attire was too mature, giving Bai Jueming the impression of a poor rural relative visiting the city. Looking down at his dark blue clothes, this feeling intensified.

"Brother, what brings you here?" Bai Jueyu called out as he approached.

"I'll supervise your cultivation." Bai Jueming carefully crafted his tone. Although his attire did resemble that of a poor relative, he still needed to appear presentable and not lose face.

What's going on? Did my brother take the wrong medicine today? Why is he urging me to cultivate? Bai Jueyu thought to himself. "Brother, let's go inside and talk."

Bai Jueming gave a nasal "hmm." He didn't speak, pretending to be aloof.

Bai Jueyu then said to the two gatekeeper disciples, "Junior brothers, this is my elder brother. I would like to invite him into the temple for a chat."

The two gatekeeper disciples bowed and said, "Please make yourself at home, senior brother."

Bai Jueyu led the way, while Bai Jueming followed closely behind, observing closely. The Taoist temple's archway was predominantly vermilion, already showing signs of age. The sturdy pillars were carved with exquisite patterns, including auspicious dragons soaring through the clouds, their scales clearly defined and whiskers fluttering in the wind.

Upon entering the gate of the Taoist temple, the first thing that catches the eye is often a spacious and tranquil courtyard. The ground is paved with simple bluestone slabs.

In the very center of the courtyard, a beautifully crafted incense burner stands quietly, its smoke rising gently and slowly dissipating, as if veiling the entire Taoist temple in a thin mist, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Around the incense burner, some Taoist disciples are meditating and practicing their spiritual cultivation.

Bai Jueyu walked through the courtyard, surrounded by cigarette smoke. His flowing white robes made him appear like a banished immortal.

He brought his older brother, who had taken the wrong medicine, to his room. The room was rather simple, with only a few daily necessities and a meditation cushion for Bai Jueyu to use.

Wow, even thieves leave empty-handed. Sometimes you have to admire the ancients for their ability to endure such a life of simplicity and detachment.

After Bai Jueming took his seat, he got straight to the point: "My older sister has been saying you haven't been back for two months. What happened? Did something come up and you couldn't get away?"

Bai Jueyu first poured a cup of tea for his elder brother, and then sat down and said, "It's not really that. It's just that I've encountered a bottleneck in my study of Taoist magic these past two days, and I haven't been able to fully comprehend it yet."

"Practice makes perfect," Bai Jueming scoffed.

Bai Jueyu rolled his eyes: "The Dao technique I've comprehended is thunder magic, one of the highest Dao techniques. It's the most difficult to comprehend, using the power of Heaven to unleash thunderous punishment to attack enemies."

"Hand-made heavenly lightning?" Bai Jueming was shocked, as if a TV drama had come to life!

"What do you mean by 'hand-crafted heavenly thunder'? It's attacking enemies by using heavenly lightning punishment!" Bai Jueyu sneered at his older brother. "I've been practicing every day for the past two days without any improvement. So I forgot to go home for a moment."

"Big Brother," Bai Jueyu said solemnly, "I have been studying the Daoist arts and consolidating my cultivation on the mountain for two years. It's time for me to go down the mountain and explore the world. Staying any longer will really delay my cultivation. So when I go back next time, I hope I can travel the world alone."

Seeing his younger brother's solemn expression, Bai Jueming sighed, "Don't blame your older sister for not letting you travel the world. Two years ago, you were only twelve years old. Who could feel at ease letting you go down the mountain alone to travel the world?"

"I don't blame my eldest sister." Bai Jueyu shook her head. "She raised us single-handedly. She has already taken on the role of a mother and is always afraid that we will get hurt."

"But we've already entered the world of cultivation, and our eldest sister can no longer protect us when we encounter problems in the future. So we should work hard to cultivate and turn the tables to protect our eldest sister and Xiaotang."

Why do I feel like I should be the one saying this? Are you the older brother or am I the older brother? In my past life, when I was your age, I was sitting in the last row of the classroom learning trigonometry.
