Yin Yang Soul Searcher

Chapter 18 Mountain Woman

Bai Jueming returned home. His eldest sister, Bai Wanfang, had already prepared the meal; besides two vegetarian dishes, there was also a large plate of stir-fried pork belly on the table.

Bai Wantang handed a bowl of rice to Bai Jueming: "Big brother, eat."

Bai Jueming took the rice and patted his younger sister's head: "Little Tang is such a good girl."

After dinner, Xiaotang washed the dishes, Bai Wanfang did her embroidery, and the eldest young master of the Bai family was already fast asleep in bed.

As dawn broke, sunlight filtered through the gaps in the branches, casting dappled patterns on the ground like scattered gold, a truly beautiful sight.

After washing up, Bai Jueming changed into a dark blue robe and hid the dagger in his sleeve.

He picked up the bronze mirror on the table and looked at himself. His jet-black hair was neatly combed into a bun on top of his head, and his face had sculpted features: sharply defined eyebrows, a high nose bridge, and full, red lips. It must be said, the clothing and adornments of ancient times greatly enhanced one's appearance.

Setting down the bronze mirror, Bai Jueming flipped open the bedsheets and took out a five-tael silver note. He then counted his savings from the past year. He had twenty taels left, exactly his monthly salary from the Yin-Yang Palace. He needed to rent a carriage later, otherwise it would be noon by the time he reached the foot of Mount Wutai.

Bai Wanfang had prepared breakfast early, and after Bai Jueming finished eating, he went straight to the carriage rental shop and rented a carriage. A driver would be there, and it cost one tael of silver a day. Expensive! Riding a horse was even more expensive, and a deposit was required; five taels of silver simply wasn't enough.

After Bai Jueming boarded the carriage, the carriage driver cracked his whip. The horses' hooves clattered as they drove out of the capital city gates and headed straight for the outskirts.

Bai Jueming looked out the car window at the distant mountains, which were shrouded in a light mist, appearing and disappearing like a traditional Chinese ink painting.

The vast blue sky is dotted with drifting white clouds, as white as snow. Birds occasionally fly by, leaving behind their clear chirps that echo in the open countryside, bringing a sense of joy to the heart.

A gentle breeze blew by, carrying the fresh scent of mountain grass and trees. It has to be said, in this era free from industrial pollution, even the air smells so sweet, though there are a lot of flies and mosquitoes...

At this moment, Bai Jueming only wanted to recite a poem: "I find the green hills so charming, and I suppose the green hills find me just as beautiful..."

After the carriage sped along for about half an hour after leaving the capital, it arrived at Xuancheng County, a small county town on the outskirts of the capital. The driver stopped the carriage and said, "Sir, the road ahead is mountainous, and the carriage can't go any further. I'll wait for you here."

This guy only sat there for a short while and already made half a tael of silver from me. You guys make money really fast...

Bai Jueming jumped off the carriage and stretched his aching back. This carriage ride was awful! The jolting made his whole body ache. Horseback riding was much more comfortable. He was starting to miss cars...

After saying goodbye to his companions, Bai Jueming followed the path to the foot of the mountain. The entire hill was covered with lush trees, as if it were wearing a ghillie suit.

This mountain is the most difficult to climb on the way to Wutai Temple. Once you cross this mountain, you will see the main peak of Wutai Temple, where there are stone steps.

Bai Jueming walked slowly along the winding mountain path, as if stepping into a flowing landscape painting.

By the time they reached the halfway point, Bai Jueming was drenched in sweat. This Onmyoji's physical condition was rather poor; he felt completely drained after only climbing for a short while.

Bai Jueming went to the nearby stream, scooped up a handful of water, and washed his face.

"Cough cough," a coughing sound came from the bushes opposite. Bai Jueming jumped in fright. "Who?" Where did this person come from in this desolate wilderness? Could it be a female demon?

Bai Jueming stood quietly in place for a moment, wondering if he was hallucinating.

Just as Bai Jueming was about to get up and leave, the sound of coughing came from the bushes opposite him again.

Bai Jueming turned around with some doubt, and mustered up his courage to shout a few times towards the bushes opposite, but there was no echo from the bushes.

Bai Jueming took out a dagger from his sleeve and waded to the other side of the river. There, in the dense, dark grass, lay a woman, her body stained with blood.

Her hair was disheveled and scattered on both sides of her face, with a few strands stuck to her skin by blood, and blood still lingered at the corners of her mouth. Her once fair face was now mottled with blood, yet her delicate features were still somewhat concealed.

She really is a female demon!

However, how could she have suffered such severe injuries in this desolate wilderness? Bai Jueming sheathed his dagger and squatted down beside the woman. Her clothes were torn and soaked in blood, and in some places they appeared to have been ripped open by a sharp weapon, revealing equally scarred skin underneath.

"Miss, Miss," Bai Jueming called softly a few times. The woman forced her eyes open, a hint of panic on her face: "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

This isn't your house, does that mean I can't come over? Seriously.

Bai Jueming did not answer, but looked at the stack of talismans hanging from the woman's waist, which was already stained with blood: "Miss, are you a disciple of Wutai Temple?" Talismans are a unique product of Taoism and are consumables.

These are extremely rare and expensive on the black market. Normally, cultivators would buy one or two as a last resort for self-defense. This woman was carrying a whole stack with her, especially since this was near a Taoist temple. It's easy to assume she was a Taoist disciple.

"Yes, I am a disciple of Wutai Temple. I'm telling you, don't do anything reckless. My senior brothers will be here soon." The woman's voice was clearly lacking in confidence.

Bai Jueming stroked his chin: "Girl, you don't need to scare me. If you were a disciple of Wutai Temple, wouldn't you recognize me? I am the famous Abbot of Wutai Temple, Li Tianxing!"

The woman looked at Bai Jueming with disdain. She had seen the headmaster of Wutai Temple before; how could he possibly be this lecherous man before her?

After a pause, Bai Jueming continued, "My junior brother, my last disciple. Bai Jueyu! How could you not recognize me?"

Bai Jueming had no qualms about using his status as a junior disciple to bluff the woman. If she were truly a disciple of Wutai Temple, Bai Jueming might even have to help her return to Wutai Temple.

Seeing Bai Jueming's confident demeanor, the woman hesitated to speak. She was indeed not a disciple of Wutai Temple. Unable to ascertain whether this lecherous man was truly from Wutai Temple, she could only remain silent.

Seeing that the girl remained silent, Bai Jueming understood. Then, Bai Jueming took out the dagger in his hand and gave a threatening, lewd laugh: "Of course, if I wanted to harm you, I could easily destroy the evidence."

Seeing Bai Jueming's threatening, lewd grin, the woman's blood-stained face contorted with anger. She was no delicate queen...

"I never expected my closed-door disciple to be so shameless. I'd rather die with you." He said, reaching for the talisman at his waist.
