Yin Yang Soul Searcher

Chapter 10 Memories of the Past

Upon entering the room, Bai Jueming closed the door. The room was simply furnished, with two beds, a table, several boxes for clothes, and a bathtub. Bai Jueming first filled the tub with water, then soaked in the tub and closed his eyes, pretending to doze off.

This room was where Bai Jueming and his younger brother shared a room. However, when his brother was seven years old, a wandering Taoist priest passed by and, recognizing his brother's talent, took him as a disciple. Bai Jueming then went to the Wutai Temple on the outskirts of the capital to cultivate under the guidance of an old Taoist priest. He rarely returned home, and Bai Jueming spent most of his time living alone.

About two or three years ago, the original owner's older sister rescued an injured Onmyoji at the door. After the Onmyoji recovered, he left some gold and silver to thank the family.

But upon seeing Bai Jueming, she was overjoyed and declared herself a born Yin-Yang Master. That night, she secretly sneaked into Bai Jueming's room, and then...

He asked Bai Jueming if he was willing to become an Onmyoji. He then demonstrated his abilities to Bai Jueming on the spot, disappearing from the room instantly, after which various mountains, rivers, plants, flowers, birds, fish, and insects appeared in the room.

Sixteen or seventeen-year-old teenagers, already in their teens, could hardly resist such temptation.

Who didn't dream of being a chivalrous hero in their youth, upholding justice and leaping across rooftops? He agreed immediately. Then, he was mentored by some Onmyoji and became an Onmyoji. After that, that Onmyoji never appeared again, and no one guided his training.

I don't know if I really have talent, but after becoming an Onmyoji, I started hanging around the black market in the capital. I reached the eighth rank without any bottlenecks, and my cultivation speed was faster than I had imagined.

Over the years, I've been exploring and cultivating myself, gradually realizing how rare Onmyoji are. This experience has deepened that understanding even more after my imprisonment. Because of my status as an Onmyoji, even those who commit capital crimes have a chance of being spared, allowing me to become a lackey of the imperial court.

This is how the original owner became an Onmyoji, a process as unbelievable as a movie. Could this body truly be a one-in-a-million cultivation prodigy?

This matter requires further investigation, as neither the original owner nor I know much about the cultivation world...

The case I experienced myself was rather strange.

This morning I ran into two people from the Craftsmen's Hall. My junior sister said she couldn't find any trace of the array, and Cheng Yanbing had a very serious expression, as if he knew something? He seemed unwilling to say more in front of me. Could it really be the Craftsmen's Hall who did this?

That's terrifying! Who could possibly have the skill to set up an array without using array stones? There's probably only one person. If it really is the head of the Craftsmen's Hall who attacked the Imperial Advisor, then the conspiracy here is far more complex...

He shook his head, banishing the dangerous thoughts from his mind. He had barely managed to survive; he couldn't afford to get involved in the conspiracies of those powerful figures again. From now on, he would definitely avoid trouble.

After taking a bath and cleaning the tub, Bai Jueming lay down on the bed and fell into a deep sleep.

As the evening sun set, the entire courtyard was bathed in golden light, and wisps of smoke rose from the kitchen, accompanied by the occasional clanging of spatulas.

"Knock knock knock," Bai Jueming was awakened from his sleep by a knocking sound.

"Big brother, come out for dinner!" Then a little girl's childish voice rang out from outside the door.

"Okay, got it," Bai Jueming replied with a yawn. It had been a long time since he had had such a good night's sleep.

He got up, opened the door, and saw the little girl standing obediently outside. Bai Jueming smiled and picked her up in his arms. Having a little sister is wonderful; she's so adorable.

Carrying Bai Wantang to the kitchen, her older sister Bai Wanfang, wearing an apron, was serving rice. Two dishes, one meat and one vegetable, were already cooked on the table.

Bai Jueming looked at the meager amount of meat on the plate and said, "Sister, didn't I just give you fifty taels of silver this morning? Why didn't you buy more meat?"

Bai Wanfang handed Bai Jueming a bowl of rice, rolling her eyes: "That money is for you to get married. The cost of living in the capital is so high. I don't know how much silver you'll earn a month after joining the Yin Yang Palace. It's always good to save more money."

Why get married? It's unnecessary to spend so much money. Besides, joining the Yin-Yang Palace is like having a permanent position. Why rely on that meager salary? However, Bai Jueming didn't dare say it aloud. If he said he wasn't going to get married, he'd definitely get a beating.

He could only say while shoveling rice into his mouth, "Sis, we can't be stingy when it comes to food. The important thing is that Xiaotang is still growing. He's already thinner than other kids his age. You should spend more money on him. I have a stable job now, and I'll earn plenty in the future."

Bai Wanfang glanced at the little girl sitting obediently at the table eating. She was a bit thin, and she realized she had been neglecting her. "Alright, I'll buy Xiaotang more meat in the future."

"Sis, you should eat more meat too. Don't worry about saving money for me, your brother has plenty of ways to make money."

Bai Wanfang raised an eyebrow, her expression turning unfriendly, and said, "What do you want to do?"

"Of course, we should work hard to help the Yin-Yang Palace investigate cases and be rewarded," Bai Jueming said with a serious expression.

Bai Wanfang said coldly, "That's for the best." Then she changed the subject and said, "When you have time in a couple of days, go to Wutai Mountain to see Hongfei. He promised to come home at the latest every two months, but it's been more than five days and he still hasn't returned. Go and see what's going on."

Hongfei is Bai Jueyu's courtesy name and Bai Jueming's younger brother. He is fourteen years old this year. When he was seven years old, he was chosen as a disciple by an old Taoist priest and followed him to the Taoist temple, Wutai Temple, on the outskirts of the capital, to cultivate.

The old Taoist priest had a good eye; his younger brother had excellent talent for cultivation. By the age of twelve, he had already reached the eighth rank of the Taoist school. However, if he wanted to continue cultivating, he would have to travel the world. So he never went.

The reason, of course, was because the eldest sister felt her younger brother was too young; it would be dangerous for him to travel the world at twelve. Even though her brother was more powerful than Bai Jueming at the time...

Once, when Bai Wanfang went to Wutai Mountain to visit her younger brother, the old Taoist priest at the temple tried to persuade her, but in the end, he angered his sister.

She told her younger brother that she would no longer study Taoism at Wutai Temple, but would instead study at another temple. The family was led by the older sister; upon hearing this, the younger brother, without looking back, immediately went to pack his bags.

The old Taoist priest realized this wouldn't do. He had finally found such a talented disciple; if he ran away, being laughed at by the other old Taoist priests would be a minor matter, but being snatched away by the Mountain Tiger Temple would be a major one.

Then, with tears streaming down her face, she pleaded her case. Finally, the older sister relented and agreed to let her younger brother stay, but he had to come home every two months. The old Taoist had no choice but to agree. As a result, the younger brother is still consolidating his eighth-rank cultivation.

However, his low cultivation level didn't cause much of a problem. The old Taoist priest first had his younger brother learn Taoist magic, as Taoist magic was the foundation of Taoism and far more important than cultivation level.

"Perhaps he's reached a crucial point in his cultivation and can't come back for a while. He might return on his own in a couple of days, so I won't go..." Bai Jueming casually replied.

It wasn't that Bai Jueming didn't want to see his younger brother, but rather that he didn't want to go to Wutai Temple. The mountain path to Wutai Temple was difficult to traverse, and climbing it would take more than an hour.

My physical abilities aren't much different from an ordinary person's, so why waste my energy? My little brother will probably be back in a couple of days. It's unlikely he's encountered any danger; even a second-rank demon wouldn't be able to break into that kind of place.

"Bang!" Bai Wanfang slammed her hand on the table, glaring at her. "Are you going or not?"

Little Tang, who was sitting quietly eating her meal next to me, trembled slightly, clearly startled.

Bai Jueming then put down the bowl and said seriously, "Of course I'll go, sister. Tomorrow I'll go to the Yin-Yang Palace to report for duty, and the day after tomorrow I'll go see Hongfei. It's been so long since I've seen him, and as his brother, I miss him too. I'll also give him a little scolding. You care about him so much, sister, yet you haven't come home to visit him in so long."

Looks like I'll have to take the day off on my second day back at work. I wonder if they'll deduct my monthly salary...

"That's more like it, let's eat."

The three of them began to eat quietly. Xiaotang finished washing the dishes last. Her older sister went back to her room to continue her embroidery.
