Folklore: Pre-emptive shelter begins with the stomach.

Chapter 5 entry: "Good Fortune"

Outside, it was empty.

The emptiness itself wasn't a problem, but the presence of eerie shadows wandering around at night was unusual in this situation.

He frowned slightly and stopped what he was doing.

Seeing that Feng Mo was no longer stubbornly looking at the door outside, and that he was no longer as anxious as before, Xiao Bai noticed that Feng Mo's head was looking elsewhere.

That's the high wall inside the temple.

Feng Mo followed the gaze.

Under the moonlight, the walls were empty, smooth and flat, and there was nothing there either.

However, Feng Mo sensed something was amiss.

He had a good memory; the walls around the Five Stomach Temple were all dilapidated and broken, so where would there be such smooth walls?

There should be a circular notch at the top of the wall.

Feng Mo frowned.

He looked again in the silvery moonlight and could then vaguely make out what he was seeing.

Right where the gap was, there was a head, like a club, peering through the gap.

Looking from the outside in.

And the one watching is oneself!

Instantly, Feng Mo felt a chill run down his spine! Cold sweat, like night sweats, soaked his entire body!

The light was poor at night, and he couldn't see the eerie face clearly, but when he met her eyes, Feng Mo felt a chill run down his spine.

This eerie creature seems to have been staring at me for quite some time!

Feng Mo looked at Xiao Bai and finally relaxed: "Thank goodness you're here."

He breathed a sigh of relief and patted the dog's head.

If you had reached out and touched that strange stone just now, something unexpected might have happened.

The wall is three meters high, and the eerie neck can be vaguely seen. Judging from its features, it should be the "slender ghost" that we know.

Its body is like a long neck, over six feet long; it likes to spy on people, and grows larger and larger each day.

This is recorded in the book.

The meaning is simple: "In appearance, the body and neck are equally slender, and the length is generally around six feet."

Habitually, it enjoys spying on others and grows one foot taller every day.

Looking at the wall again, it is covered with cracks, and the width of the cracks is enough to see into the outside world. Similarly, the outside world can also see into the temple.

This eerie thing has probably been staring at me like this for more than just a day!

One meter is three feet, so a three-meter-high wall is nine feet.

The eerie six-foot frame became nine feet, meaning they had been spying for a full three days.

It's likely that they were already spying on it while the original owner was still alive.

As for this bizarre method of killing, it's not simple either.

I'm afraid that one day its head will grow long enough to reach over the wall and devour anyone hiding inside!

Seemingly discovered, the slender elf removed his disguise.

Its head slid along the wall and tried to stick it inside, wiping away the mortar at the hole and stirring up dust.

Feng Mo retreated to the eerie campfire.

The long, thin creature circled the city wall of the Five Internal Organs Temple, but hesitated to enter, as if something was keeping it out.

Feng Mo realized something.

His gaze fell on the doorway, where the "talisman stone" was emitting a faint blue glow.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the lanky, eerie creature wasn't unwilling to enter, but rather unable to!

"Thank goodness!" Feng Mo breathed a sigh of relief.

At the same time, I was amazed by the different kinds of horror among the bizarre.

The "smiling devil" is silent, and the "slender devil" has a long neck. If one doesn't have their own stomach to manage, it's probably impossible to defend against him.

"It seems we can't let our guard down just because it's a first-order anomaly."

On the contrary, if a first-order anomaly is this troublesome, how terrifying would a second-order anomaly be? Feng Mo thought to himself.

Now that he has discovered it, Feng Mo will naturally not let the other party escape and continue to grow.

Immediately, he built a wooden trap.

The entry for this trap is also: "Automatic Reset".

However, the repayment conditions have changed; instead of triggering it once, it now requires killing a monster.

Even with the protection of the protective stone, Feng Mo remained within a five-meter radius of the wall as he approached it.

At this moment, the "slender monster" kept its eyes on Feng Mo as it slithered along the edge, seemingly unaware that it was about to reach the end.

Even after Feng Mo got closer, its round head stretched out again.

This time, Feng Mo finally saw the other person's face clearly.

His pale face, with skin stuck to his flesh, was revealing a sinister smile, his teeth sticking out like a blooming white chrysanthemum.

That's disgusting!

Die!

With a single thought, the wooden trap in Feng Mo's hand vanished.

Based on the exact position of the "Skinny Guy's" head, it was precisely positioned at its feet!

In the instant the golden light flashed, the eerie shadow that had been hanging on the wall vanished without a trace!

The disaster stone seemed to be located on the head, so when it fell, it got stuck in a crack in the wall.

"Repayment completed"

A notification appeared before Feng Mo's eyes, indicating that the monster had been killed.

"These strange creatures don't seem to have much intelligence; they just act on instinct," Feng Mo summarized the pattern of these two encounters with the strange creatures.

He also discovered the disaster stone from earlier.

Unfortunately, the lighting wasn't very good, and he only remembered the approximate location when the disaster stone fell off.

Feng Mo returned to the main hall and lit a torch at the location of the bonfire, then walked towards that spot.

But as soon as he got close to the temple wall, Feng Mo stopped, his foot dangling in mid-air.

Feng Mo picked up the torch and held it towards the temple wall.

The firelight illuminated the walls.

There was nothing on the wall except for peeling paint and cracks that looked like a large rift valley.

Beneath the crack, Feng Mo saw pairs of pale white eyes, like the eyes of dead fish.

I stood outside the temple wall, looking at it through the cracks in the wall.

They were all thin, long, and strange-looking.

Its neck wasn't even higher than the city wall yet, so Feng Mo didn't even notice it.

Feng Mo immediately stepped back.

He immediately lost the will to collect the disaster stones.

"Tonight, I'll go with the other disaster stones," Feng Mo decided.

Immediately, he proceeded to set up a third trap.

With so many strange occurrences, we can't miss it.

This time, however, Feng Mo did not draw the same entry.

"Good Fortune": Increases the item drop rate after defeating monsters.

"nice one!"

He looked at the repayment terms, which were still to kill a monster.

Just as Feng Mo was pondering, the sound of a trap being triggered came from the doorway again.

With a flash of golden light, it signifies yet another eerie creature has vanished from this world.

"The monster's activity today seems a bit abnormal..." Feng Mo muttered to himself.

This reminded him of what Gu Zhenren had said about the impending calamity, and his heart grew heavy.

"Is this the calamity? I must act even faster!"

In the following period, Feng Mo continued to set up traps near the temple.

He discovered that the traps could be set within five meters, but could not be retrieved.

Feng Mo hadn't tested the previous trap's "automatic reset" feature, but he only realized this now that he had "Good Fortune."

In order to make the traps reusable, Feng Mo used materials found on the spot.

He made straw ropes.

Its main material is a sturdy, flexible, and durable herb.

Now, the spiritual herb has grown from a single bunch into a small patch, and its "propagation" ability is constantly assimilating the surrounding weeds.

The assimilated weeds also inherited the "propagation" characteristic of the spiritual herbs.

At night, these spiritual herbs emit a ghostly blue light, like will-o'-the-wisps.

"This light looks a bit like a ghostly campfire," Feng Mo said after staring at it for a while. "Once it's fully formed, can it really withstand a first-tier ghostly calamity?"

Feng Mo put his mind to business.

In this way, he secured the straw rope he had woven to the Lucky Trap with a Prussian knot, and manually pulled it back whenever it was triggered.

At the same time, this means that a new trap has been deployed in the vicinity.

Until the night fades and the sun rises, it is a new day.

Feng Mo counted the traps.

There are now twelve wooden traps set up.

The most common term is "automatic reset," which appears in eleven out of twelve traps.

This shows just how rare the "good fortune" he randomly received was.

Moreover, the repayment conditions are all related to aggressiveness.

From triggering a trap to killing a monster, or even observing a rune that is being triggered, etc.

There was no singing or ritual, which is completely different from "ghostly bonfires," "spirit herbs," and "shrines," which tend to be more functional.

"It seems that the type of building also has an impact on repayment terms."

Today, these traps are scattered around the Five Internal Organs Temple, greatly enhancing its defensive capabilities.

Although it's a bit rudimentary, the strange entry that happened the night before last won't happen again, unless some kind of supernatural disaster strikes.

Moreover, the repayment conditions are all related to aggressiveness.

Now that the eeriness had subsided during the day, Feng Mo immediately went out to take stock of his spoils.

He and Xiaobai circled the Five Stomachs Temple, collecting a total of fourteen disaster stones of varying sizes and a "Gray Wheat Seed".

Even if the disaster stones are only the size of a fingernail, there are still quite a few.

It seems that Feng Mo had been watching for a long time.

Information about the disaster stone appeared before his eyes.

"Calamity Stone (Tier 1)": Contains violent energy, which can be used by cultivators to replenish their blood and qi and for cultivation; however, due to the presence of calamity, excessive absorption will cause irreversible deterioration of the physical body.

"Besides currency and cultivation resources, are there other hidden secrets?"

Feng Mo murmured, raising an eyebrow slightly after seeing the last sentence, "Will there be any side effects after cultivators use it?"

"Practitioner" is generally another term for the head of a temple.

In this world, the twelve temple systems have twelve paths of cultivation.

The Feng family of Shiping worships the chivalrous and martial spirit of the True Lord of Chaos and Forbiddenness, and is one of the twelve temple lineages.

A True Lord has eight temples, each with its own specialties.

Feng Mo's Five Internal Organs Temple is one of the Eight Temples system, corresponding to internal martial arts.

Each temple lineage has its own corresponding lineage.

Although the original owner's arrival was abrupt, as the head of a temple, he also possessed these traditions. However, because he couldn't understand them, they were used to prop up the corners of the table used for offerings to the shrine.

Although the original owner was unrestrained and dissolute, he was still humble towards the idol.

Seeing that the altar table was not very stable, he used it to fix the problem.

According to him, this can be considered getting to the root of the problem.

Feng Mo walked to the shrine and bowed repeatedly to show his humility.

He then took the book of true teachings out from under the corner of the table and placed it on top of a small stone of roughly the same thickness.

The true teachings of the Five Organs Temple are known as the Five Organs Exercises.

Feng then opened it to take a look.

The five internal organs are called the five palaces, and the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys correspond to five kinds of internal martial arts.

Each stain represents a major level of achievement:

When the mind is at ease, one is impervious to swords and spears; when the liver generates courage, one is fearless against evil forces; when the spleen releases blood, one's strength is inexhaustible; when the lungs are constantly breathing, one's breath is seamless; when the kidneys strengthen the foundation, one's foundation is as solid as a rock.

However, for some reason, the techniques for treating the spleen are missing, as if the lineage has been broken.

According to the symbolism, the five internal organs are interconnected, mutually generating and continuously nourishing each other.

Whether it's the heart, liver, lungs, or kidneys, these four corresponding exercises all consume qi and blood. Among them, the spleen's blood-purifying function is the key to transforming food into qi and blood continuously, but now there is no related inheritance.

Internal martial arts are techniques that utilize qi and blood to perform deadly and unpredictable attacks.

Without the spleen's inheritance, only intake and no output will result in a deficiency of qi and blood, ultimately leaving only a dried-up corpse.

On the page about the spleen, there are only three large characters and a striking exclamation mark—"Cannot be repaired!"
