America, starting as a trainee police officer

Chapter 143 Now things are really messed up, I'm an accomplice.
That's one of the good things about living in America for a long time:
No matter how arrogant you are, one gun pointed at you and you'll immediately become obedient.
Gang taunts and street bravado are all worthless in front of a 9mm lens.
Being held at gunpoint here is nothing new. But the problem is, Li Wei's body camera is still in the car.
There were no recorders, no witnesses, and not even a single surveillance camera in the stairwell.
Li Wei looked at them, knowing perfectly well that even if he killed these two now, he could easily get away with it later.
It is reasonable that someone who took advantage of the earthquake to loot was shot dead on the spot.
But he was too lazy to waste words with these two minor characters.
Two muffled thuds.
The S&W745, equipped with a silencer, emitted a low rumble that echoed twice in the narrow hallway before falling silent.
The two people fell down.
Li Wei put the gun back into his storage space, stepped over the body on the ground, and continued walking forward.
At times like this, no one would notice that two thugs were missing from the hallway.
Effie lives in 305.
He walked to the door and was about to knock.
The door was ajar, and light shone through the crack.
Li Wei reached out and pushed open the door.
The living room was a mess. The TV cabinet was crooked, books were scattered all over the floor, the sofa had been moved, and cups on the coffee table were broken on the floor.
Someone has been here.
He strode through the living room and had just reached the bedroom door when he heard a muffled thud coming from inside.
Push open the door.
In the bedroom, Effie stood by the bed, clutching the base of a lamp in her hand, her breathing rapid. A man lay motionless on the floor, a bloody gash on his forehead. Shards of the lamp lay scattered nearby.
Effie heard the door open and looked up sharply.
She was taken aback when she saw it was Li Wei.
In that instant, the tension that had been building up in her mind all night suddenly eased.
Since the earthquake, she has been facing the man who broke in alone. Her hands were shaking as she gripped the lamp base, but she didn't let herself panic.
It wasn't until she saw Li Wei standing at the door that she realized she had been waiting for him all along.
She threw down the lamp base she was holding, rushed over in two steps, and buried her face in his chest.
She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist and buried her face in his chest.
They were holding each other very tightly.
Li Wei paused for a moment, then reached out and patted her on the back.
A few seconds later, Effie released him and took a half step back. She tucked a stray hair behind her ear and resumed her usual indifferent expression.
"You've arrived."
Her voice was calm, but her eyes were still a little red.
She looked at Li Wei, her feelings indescribable. She hadn't panicked during the earthquake, nor when someone broke in, but the moment this person appeared at the door, she suddenly felt that nothing mattered anymore.
He crossed the ruins of half the city to find her.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't moved. She thought Li Wei was incredibly handsome at that moment, both manly and reassuring. A thought even flashed through her mind:
If it weren't for the ongoing tremors outside and the two corpses lying in the stairwell, she would have loved to just pin him down on the bed and fuck him to her heart's content.
But she held back.
Now is not the time.
Li Wei glanced at her but didn't reply.
Although he didn't know exactly what Effie was thinking, he could tell from her eyes that it wasn't anything serious.
This woman usually seems cold and aloof, but in reality, her mind is filled with the same lewd nonsense as Karen's.
However, Li Wei doesn't have time to think about these things right now.
"Pack your things and come with me."
Without saying a word, Effie turned around, took a backpack from the closet, and stuffed her laptop, charger, and a few changes of clothes inside.
He then pulled out an envelope from under the bed, which contained a stack of cash and a passport.
The whole process took less than two minutes.
She zipped up her backpack and slung it over her shoulder: "Let's go."
Li Wei glanced at the man on the ground, then at Ai Fei.
He didn't say anything, but pulled the Smith & Wesson 745 from his waist. Actually, he took it out of his storage space, but he concealed it on his side, making Effie think that he had always kept it tucked behind his waist.
He pointed the gun at himself, gripped the barrel, and handed it to Effie.
Effie was taken aback.
She looked down at the gun, then looked up at Li Wei.
Li Wei's expression was calm, as if he were handing over a glass of water.
"The difference between what you killed and what I killed is not much," Li Wei said. "But since you've already laid a hand on him, there's no going back in America."
Effie stared at him for two seconds.
Then she reached out and took the gun.
She walked up to the man and squatted down.
The muzzle of the gun was pressed against the back of his head.
She didn't hesitate.
A muffled thud.
Effie stood up and handed the gun back to Levi. Her face was expressionless, but her breathing was a little faster than before.
"Alright."
Li Wei took the gun and casually tucked it behind his waist.
From this moment forward, they are accomplices.
Li Wei sighed inwardly. Coming to America to become a policeman, only to end up killing someone with his informant and lover to cover it up—if this were written into a report and submitted, Zoe would be speechless for three minutes.
She's a leftist, a saint, there's nothing you can do about it. But she's not the kind of brainless, sanctimonious idiot, otherwise working under her would be unbearable. When an officer's life is threatened in a critical moment, she can understand why you would fire. After all, she's done it herself.
Without saying anything more, Li Wei turned and left.
Effie followed behind him.
The two bodies were still lying on the ground in the stairwell.
Effie glanced down, paused for a moment, but didn't stop. She stepped over and followed Li Wei downstairs.
Li Wei walked ahead, catching a glimpse of her movements out of the corner of his eye.
Upon seeing the body, there was no screaming, no covering of the mouth, and not even a question about who killed it. They simply glanced down, stepped over it, and continued walking.
Li Wei's opinion of her rose even higher.
This kind of mental fortitude is not something everyone possesses.
He was right about him.
The police car started and drove away from the street below the apartment building.
The car was silent for a few seconds.
Effie sat in the passenger seat, watching the ruins and thick smoke flash by outside the window. She remained silent for a while.
"Will the police trace it back to me?"
After saying that, she suddenly found it a little funny. There was an LAPD officer sitting next to her, and she was worried that the police might investigate her. She felt like a clown.
She paused. "I have one body in my house, and two more outside my door. All three bodies are connected to me. What am I going to do when the LAPD comes knocking?"
Li Wei gripped the steering wheel, not turning around: "You're not home."
"What?"
"You weren't home when the earthquake happened," Li Wei repeated. "Nobody knows where you went or what you did."
Those three corpses have nothing to do with you.
Effie frowned: "But the bullet can be traced—"
"Cannot be found."
Li Wei gripped the steering wheel with one hand, and with the other hand he pulled the Smith & Wesson 745 from his waist and handed it to Effie.
"Black gun, no serial number. The origin of the bullets fired cannot be traced."
