HP: Wizards at Hogwarts
Chapter 38 Hufflepuff's Dormitory
"You know what? The way they came in made me feel like a secret agent!"
"What is a secret agent?"
"They are roughly equivalent to Aurors in the magical world, except that in addition to combat, they are also adept at using disguise, puzzle-solving, and setting up traps to transmit information."
"What is a mechanism?"
"You can think of it as an alchemical artifact used to protect or hide something, except it's made with Muggle technology. The mechanisms are generally very difficult to unlock because they usually involve very complex knowledge, such as Morse code, computer principles, and electronic circuits."
What is Morse code? And what are computers and electronic circuits?
"These things are complicated; it would take three days and three nights to explain them all."
"Then I'll share my candy and snacks with you, and we can chat while we eat."
Hufflepuff doesn't have the same "merit-based" competitive spirit as Slytherins, and they won't deliberately organize any kind of "first place" competition.
On the contrary, they got along very well.
The students, regardless of gender, grade, or whether they came from Muggle or wizarding families, gathered together, chattering and sharing their experiences, without showing any signs of unease or discrimination.
Seeing this, Elaine felt very gratified.
This is exactly what he wanted to see!
Entering from the entrance, there is a reddish-brown passageway, about six or seven meters long, wide enough for three to five people to walk side by side on both sides, and about two and a half meters high.
After passing through the passage, the view suddenly opened up before me.
A spacious place, resembling a botanical garden and styled like a hobbit dwelling, appeared before them.
This is Hufflepuff's common lounge.
Unlike the passageway in front, the common lounge is more orange-yellow in color, as if it were made by hollowing out a giant pumpkin.
The ceiling is very high, and in the middle is a huge circular atrium covered with some kind of transparent mineral, through which outside light can shine in, making the interior bright both day and night.
Under the glow of the nightlight, the vines, flowers, fireplace, portraits, sofas, coral decorations, floor crystal chandeliers, and other furnishings in the lounge were all clearly visible.
At first glance, it's as if you've stepped into an incredibly beautiful painting.
Until they entered Hufflepuff's common room, the new students were still marveling at how wonderful and incredible the way they entered was.
But when they saw what the lounge looked like, they were immediately captivated by the scene before them, standing there stunned and speechless with excitement.
"Alright, alright, let's continue our pleasant conversation later. Now, please quiet down so I can show the freshmen the layout of the Hufflepuff common room."
Lance clapped his hands, interrupting the badgers' conversation. "It would be too boring to just sit here and give an introduction. How about this, I'll explain as I go and take you through the whole thing. It'll be a good way to digest after dinner."
"I almost forgot, you all need to come over and check your luggage first, and also pick up your name tags!"
After the young wizards are sorted into their respective houses, the house-elves will take advantage of the time while everyone is eating to deliver their luggage to the common room of their assigned dormitory.
House-elves will not enter a young wizard's room without permission, in order to protect the young wizards' privacy and safety.
Lance led everyone to the place where the luggage was placed, while Windsor took out a few wooden plaques from the side and gave one to each of the new students.
"In Hufflepuff tradition, we number each room and write the name on a wooden plaque, which is then hung on the door of each room. There is also a form that records the room where each wizard is located, which is hung in the common room."
"This makes it much easier for people to find someone, and they can also quickly determine which rooms are full and which rooms still have vacancies."
Elaine walked to the door of a room and found four wooden plaques with names written on them hanging there.
At that moment, Lance walked over with a wooden sign in hand: "Eleven, don't you have any luggage?"
"Yes, but I carry it with me."
Elaine took the wooden plaque and thanked him.
Lance: ...I don't understand, but I respect it.
If viewed from above, Hufflepuff's dormitory layout resembles a beetle or a multi-clawed fish, mainly divided into three parts: head, body, and claws.
The "head" section is the part you see as soon as you enter; it's basically a place for students to grow flowers and plants, display portraits and books, and chat.
The body is connected to the head, nearly twice the size of the head, and has similar functions, but with fewer miscellaneous items.
The claw-like parts are like the students' rooms; they are densely packed and extend outwards from the body.
After collecting their luggage, the group continued walking inside.
"Our college's dormitory rooms are divided into two floors, with the same layout and orientation on both floors. The only difference is that the second floor is for girls and the first floor is for boys."
"Remember, male wizards are not allowed on the second floor!"
As they spoke, the group arrived at the stairwell.
A freshman raised his hand and asked, "What will happen if I get in?"
He was the little boy who had been tricked by the Weasley twins at the dinner table. Elaine vaguely remembered that his name was Justin.
Lance smiled mysteriously and looked at Justin meaningfully: "You can give it a try."
Upon hearing this, Justin boldly stepped onto the stairs, but after only two steps, the entire staircase instantly turned into a slide, and he fell straight down, rolling three or four times on the ground.
Fortunately, Lance had anticipated this and went downstairs to catch him: "See, this is what happens when a male wizard wants to go up to the second floor. It's to protect the witch's privacy."
Justin got up from the ground, looked up at the stairs, and found that they had returned to normal.
Lance reminded him again, "The entire dormitory is protected by magic that prevents flying; even flying brooms will be rendered ineffective."
Flying and apparition are prohibited, and the stairs will turn into protective slides, making it virtually impossible for male wizards to climb them.
Of course, this won't stop Elivin, because he has teleportation magic!
Windsor walked to the top of the stairs, waved to the first-year witches, and gestured for them to follow her: "Girls, come with me. The boys are yours, Lance."
Lance nodded: "No problem, leave it to me!"
The witches hesitated for a moment, but after seeing that nothing happened after Windsor went up the stairs, they mustered up the courage to follow.
Elaine suddenly had a whimsical thought: "What would happen if I went up the stairs right now?"
Lance replied, "Then the stairs will instantly turn into a slide, and you'll get a hard fall, a beating from the witches, and at least three days of eye-rolling."
Elivin: "..."
Only three days?
They're actually quite easy to please.
