HP: Wizards at Hogwarts

Chapter 36 An Impressive Dinner

The college selection ceremony is finally over!

Elaine stood up, took off the Sorting Hat, and picked up the Gryffindor sword from the ground.

After hesitating for two seconds, he put the sword back into the Sorting Hat.

It's just that the sword is positioned with the hilt facing inwards and the tip pointing downwards.

After doing all this, Elaine turned around to hand the Sorting Hat to Professor McGonagall, only to find her looking at him with a strange expression.

"Professor McGonagall, is there a problem?"

Of course there's a problem!

Why did you put the Gryffindor sword away so quickly?!

I haven't even touched it yet!!

Professor McGonagall, of course, noticed Elaine's little trick of "putting the sword upside down" earlier.

After that, won't the Gryffindor sword fall out of the hat and pierce the students' heads?

Forget it, there's no use thinking about it now, I can't draw my sword anyway.

Let Dumbledore worry about it!

"There are no problems, Mr. Yakut."

"Now give me the Sorting Hat, and go to the Hufflepuff table to prepare for dinner."

"I think everyone is very hungry right now."

Elaine nodded and handed over the Sorting Hat as instructed, but instead of going directly to the Hufflepuff table, he turned around and looked around the dining hall before shaking his head and sighing.

"What's wrong now?"

Professor McGonagall noticed Elaine's actions and asked a question.

Is this kid going to cause trouble again?

"That's right, Professor."

"In the Muggle world, we usually wash our hands before eating, but I noticed that this cafeteria doesn't seem to have facilities like faucets or sinks..."

"I strongly suggest the school install one in the cafeteria. Just because we're wizards doesn't mean we can't prioritize hygiene and safety!"

Elaine spread his hands, giving a disgusted look.

"Besides, I just touched the Sorting Hat for a long time!"

"This is an old hat with a history of over a thousand years; who knows how many germs it's tainted with!"

"It just passed through so many hands—you know, many of them probably haven't washed their hands since this morning, from King's Cross station to here!"

Elaine's face grew paler and paler as he spoke, until he finally screamed.

"Merlin's beard!!"

"I think I need to go to the restroom right now!"

Sorting Hat: "..."

Professor McGonagall: "..."

"Actually, for wizards, a simple cleansing spell is enough to ensure hygiene, and a water cleansing spell can be used to wash hands."

"Never mind, if you really want to go to the restroom, you can find an older student to take you; it's not far from here."

"I understand, Professor."

Elaine nodded and walked toward the Hufflepuff table.

He was still too lazy to go to the bathroom, so he just used a simple refreshing spell on himself.

The spell is still cast silently and without a staff.

By the time he reached the Hufflepuff table, he was completely clean, and his hands looked as if he had washed them three or four times with hand sanitizer.

The Hufflepuff students rose to their feet, eagerly welcoming his arrival.

Elaine greeted everyone one by one, and finally came to the young wizards who had been assigned to this academy, and sat down with his classmates.

Soon, Dumbledore stood up, said a few words, and then announced that dinner was served.

"Idiot! Crybaby! Trash! Twist!"

Whoosh whoosh—

Countless dishes appeared on the table in an instant.

Roast beef, fried chicken legs, pork chops, steaks, lamb chops, sausages, potatoes and carrots prepared in various ways, as well as peas, pudding, and pumpkin juice.

Meat, vegetables, desserts, and drinks—everything you could want is available.

Elaine casually picked up some food and tried a few bites.

Sure enough, it's sweet!

Sweet potatoes, sweet carrots, sweet pork chops, sweet chicken legs, sweet sausages...

Almost everything on the table was sweet!

Although some of the food may have retained its original flavor due to time constraints or lack of ideas, it seems that the house-elves in the kitchen have done a good job of fulfilling their instructions.

"vomit……"

"Why is this steak so sweet?!"

"It tastes really weird!"

"These fried potatoes are so sweet! Merlin, I can hardly believe they're potatoes!"

"Were the little fairies distracted while cooking tonight? Or did they accidentally knock over the sugar jar?!"

"This is such a waste of food!!"

"This...this is the food at Hogwarts? How hopeless..."

"I never imagined my first meal in the magical world would be like this. I don't think I'll ever forget this day!"

"I'd like to ask, can the Hogwarts school nurse cure diabetes?"

Various complaints filled the cafeteria.

Elaine felt that if his cheat code was a "negative emotion collection system," he would be making a fortune by now!

What?

If Elaine does this, won't he also have to eat sweets like everyone else?

Please!

As long as it makes everyone suffer, even if I have to endure some hardship and enjoy some sweetness myself, it's all worth it!

Perhaps they were really too hungry, but the students eventually endured the cloyingly sweet taste and forced themselves to eat the food in front of them.

As for the professors, they weren't particularly hungry, probably because they hadn't experienced a day of travel fatigue, and they only ate a few bites before stopping.

Dumbledore, on the other hand, ate with great relish, his eyes crinkling and his face beaming with smiles, like a child of only seven or eight years old.

He must have been very satisfied with the dinner!

While eating, Elaine was also observing his classmates.

This year, a total of 16 new students were sorted into Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, including 9 boys and 7 girls, a fairly even distribution.

Immediately afterwards, Elaine began counting the number of students in each college.

He finally had a preliminary answer to the question, "How many students did Hogwarts have?", one of the "Ten Unsolved Mysteries of Harry Potter".

The school has over 600 students, with Hufflepuff having the largest number at nearly 180, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor having roughly the same number at around 150 each, and Slytherin having the smallest number at less than 140.

The proportion of students in each of the four colleges is roughly the same in each grade.

As for the total number of students in each grade, it gradually decreases from the higher grades to the lower grades.

Elaine learned from Cedric Diggory, a "good senior" two years his senior, that there were about 80 students in their year, 21 of whom were Hufflepuffs.

The reason for this phenomenon is quite simple.

Eleven years ago, Voldemort wreaked havoc in the British wizarding world. To avoid their children suffering after birth, adult wizards at the time chose to have fewer and later children, which is why the number of young wizards has been decreasing year by year.

However, this phenomenon rebounded after Voldemort disappeared.

It is foreseeable that the number of junior wizards in Elaine's generation will increase year by year.

Furthermore, the Earth will be peaceful for at least the next thirty years, during which the global economy will develop rapidly and the population will explode, so the wizard population will naturally see a significant increase.
