Chapter 8 Breakup?
Once the hotel room door was closed, the air seemed to freeze.
Wang's mother sat on the edge of the bed, her face gloomy.
Her gaze swept back and forth between Wang Churan and Su Yu.
"Tell me, what exactly happened between you guys?"
Su Yu sighed inwardly. Looking at Wang Mama's expression, he knew this matter was going to be difficult.
Most parents would find it hard to accept that their beautiful daughter was deceived by a blond-haired man while she was still in high school—even though he had black hair.
"Auntie, Chu Ran and I are indeed dating."
After thinking about it, Su Yu decided to tell the truth.
After all, they've already seen it with their own eyes. If you keep making excuses, their impression of you will only get worse.
Sure enough, Wang's mother's face visibly darkened, and she questioned Su Yu, "Do you know that my Chu Ran is still a high school student?"
"Know."
"You knew?" Mrs. Wang was almost laughing in anger. "You knew and you still went through with it? Tell me, how far did your relationship go?"
This question made Su Yu's scalp tingle. He quickly explained, "Auntie, please don't misunderstand. Nothing happened between us. At most, it was limited to what you just saw."
Wang Churan nodded quickly, her pace as fast as a chick pecking at rice.
Wang's mother glanced at her daughter and saw that they didn't seem to be lying. After all, she could easily find out the truth by asking around on set, so her expression softened slightly.
She was silent for a few seconds before speaking, her tone still harsh.
"Chu Ran is too young and can't distinguish what love is, so I don't agree to you two being together right now."
Wang Churan's face turned pale instantly.
"Mom, what right do you have—"
"What do you know?" Wang's mother interrupted her. "You're so young, how can you tell the difference?"
"How am I young!" Wang Churan's eyes were already red, but she stubbornly held back her tears. "I'm already eighteen years old, I'm an adult!"
"You dare talk back to me?"
She saw her daughter leaning slightly towards Su Yu, her hands still gripping Su Yu's arm, which made her even angrier.
"Why are you standing so close to him? Come here!"
Wang Churan bit her lip, looked up at Su Yu, her eyes red.
Su Yu looked down at her and gently patted the back of her hand.
"Go on," he said softly, "Don't make Auntie angry."
Wang Churan bit her lip and reluctantly walked to her mother's side.
Watching their little actions, Wang's mother felt even more choked up.
She reached out and pulled her daughter closer to her, then looked at Su Yu again: "I'm making this clear: Wang Churan is not allowed to date before university!"
"mom!"
Mrs. Wang glared at her daughter, then turned to Su Yu: "What's your opinion?"
Su Yu felt somewhat helpless.
Since the parents have made it clear that they disagree, there's not much point in him saying anything now; it might even make things worse.
"Then I'll listen to you."
Mrs. Wang's complexion improved considerably.
Wang Churan was stunned. She looked at Su Yu in disbelief, her mouth opened but she couldn't say anything.
"From now on, you two need to keep your distance, understand?"
Su Yu nodded.
"Then you can leave."
Su Yu stood up, turned around, and walked out of the room.
Before leaving, he turned and glanced at Wang Churan.
The moment the door closed behind him, he heard Wang Churan's voice, trembling with sobs, coming from inside.
For the next few days, Wang's mother stayed at the film set.
She did nothing else but follow along.
When Wang Churan was filming, she sat beside her and watched; when Wang Churan was resting, she sat beside her and kept her company.
She glanced at Su Yu every now and then, as if guarding against a thief.
Lü Haojiji didn't seem to have any objections to this, and even took the initiative to chat with Wang's mother a few times.
Su Yu didn't know what they were talking about, but judging from the occasional glances the director gave him, it probably wasn't anything bad.
Wang Churan has been much quieter these past few days. She's still very serious when filming, but as soon as the director yells "cut," she goes back to sit next to her mother and stops running towards Su Yu.
Su Yu didn't take the initiative to contact her, not because of Wang's mother's words "keep your distance," but because he knew that the more he moved closer at this time, the more Wang's mother would dislike him.
After all, some things can't be solved with just words. Only by becoming more capable can some problems be solved naturally.
Wang's mother stayed on set for about five days.
But she can't be away from her family business for too long.
On the day she left, she made a special trip to see Lü Haojiji.
"Director, I'm entrusting my daughter to you. You're her boss. Chu Ran is still young and can't distinguish right from wrong yet. I hope you'll take good care of her."
As she said this, she glanced meaningfully at a blond-haired man not far away.
Lü Haojiji followed her gaze, nodded, and assured her, "Don't worry."
Wang's mother walked up to Wang Churan again, took her daughter's hand, and softened her voice: "Churan, it's not that Mom is against you dating."
"But you're still too young, your thinking isn't mature enough, and you're easily deceived. Mom hopes you'll be more mature before you look for someone. Do you understand what Mom means?"
Wang Churan nodded blankly.
She's been feeling very confused these past few days.
Firstly, he was hurt by Su Yu's decisive decision to let go at the time.
She couldn't understand how he could so readily say, "Then I'll listen to you," without even a moment's hesitation. Did he simply not care? Did he think it wouldn't matter if they broke up?
Secondly, Su Yu hasn't sent her a single message in the past few days, and she keeps wondering if he has really given up.
After confirming with his own eyes that Wang's mother had gotten into the car and the car had driven out of the film studio, Su Yu finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
These past few days have felt like an eternity to him.
There was nothing he could do; Wang's mother kept a close eye on him every day, her gaze even more intense than that of a thief.
Ma Sichun sauntered over and couldn't help but tease Su Yu when she saw his relieved expression.
How does it feel to be targeted by a "wicked mother-in-law"?
Su Yu clasped his hands together, looking distressed. "Sister, please stop talking."
These past few days, many people in the crew have been watching him make a fool of himself.
Those who were close to him would often come over and tease him.
"Now that she's gone, you two star-crossed lovers can be together again. Aren't you going to comfort your girlfriend?"
Su Yu's expression remained unchanged: "Heh, who knows if her mother has planted spies on set."
Ma Sichun thought for a moment and nodded: "That's true, after something like this happens, people will definitely have to take precautions."
Su Yu didn't respond; he really didn't plan to go over right away.
After all, he would stick to the person who had just left, and if word got back to them, all the "honest and well-behaved" act he had put on these past few days would be for nothing.
The following day, Su Yu behaved himself and did not go to see Wang Churan.
Seeing Su Yu's performance made Wang Churan even more upset, and she couldn't even focus on filming.
After finishing work that evening, Su Yu returned to his hotel.
He sat in the room for a while, then stood up and opened the door.
Then he carefully walked to Wang Churan's room door, and after confirming that no one was around, he knocked on the door.
"Open the door, it's me, Su Yu."
It was quiet inside for a while before the door opened a crack.
Wang Churan stood behind the crack in the door, her eyes red and swollen like walnuts, and her nose also red.
Su Yu pushed open the door and went in, then closed it behind him and pulled her into his arms.
Wang Churan struggled to her feet, pushing against his chest with both hands, her voice muffled and trembling with tears: "Didn't you say we broke up? Why are you coming to see me again!"
"Listen to me first." Su Yu didn't let go, resting his chin on the top of her head. "I had no choice but to do that."
"Then why haven't you messaged me these past few days!" Wang Churan couldn't push him away, so she gave up, but her mouth didn't stop. "Not a single one! I sent you so many messages and you didn't reply to a single one!"
"Isn't your mother here?" Su Yu's voice was very soft. "If I send you a message, given your ability to control your expression, your mother will immediately notice that something is wrong."
"At that point, she'll only be more wary of me, and then there will be absolutely no chance for us."
Wang Churan stopped struggling.
She thought about it for a few seconds and realized that it seemed to be true.
But all the grievances I've accumulated over the past few days can't be erased with a simple "I had no choice."
So she lowered her head, opened her mouth, and bit Su Yu's arm.
Su Yu gasped, "Hiss—Wang Churan, are you a dog?"
Fortunately, she quickly relented, raising her head to glare at Su Yu.
"I'll bite you to death! Who told you not to explain yourself to me earlier today?"
"Grandma," Su Yu said, looking down at her face.
"Your mother just left today, and the two of us are already glued together. If she hears about this, do you think she'll still trust me? Then we're really finished."
Wang Churan remained silent.
She lowered her head, reached out and gently touched the spot where she had bitten him, her voice softening: "Didn't it hurt?"
Su Yu rolled his eyes at her: "What do you think? Or should I bite you and see?"
Wang Churan didn't respond to that.
She nestled her head against his chest, her cheek pressed against his skin, and said in a muffled voice, "I've been so sad these past few days. I thought you really didn't want me anymore."
"It breaks my heart to see you sad." He reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"From now on, let's keep our interactions discreet and not act like we did before. After all, who knows if your mother has any spies on set?"
"Mm," Wang Churan responded, then looked up at him.
Her eyes were watery from crying, and they looked especially beautiful.
Su Yu couldn't help but lower his head again.
This time the kiss lasted a long time.
Wang Churan sensed Su Yu's excitement and quickly separated them.
She blushed and turned her head away, her voice barely audible, "No... I have to film tomorrow."
Su Yu released her, looking at her flushed face: "Don't worry, I won't cross the line before you go to university, after all, I promised your mother."
Wang Churan was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized what was happening.
"So this is what you promised my mom? You pervert!"
