Chinese Entertainment: Top-Tier Boyfriends of Young Actresses

Chapter 15 A Small Gathering and New Friends

After staying at the company for a short time, Su Yu returned to the apartment the company had rented for him.

The apartment is located in Chaoyang District and was rented by Daylight Entertainment for their artists. It's a one-bedroom apartment, not very big, but the decoration is quite nice.

Su Yu felt that Noon Sunshine Entertainment was quite conscientious in its treatment of its artists.

Not only do they provide rent, but they also offer a base salary of 10,000 yuan per month, and even pay for social insurance and housing fund contributions.

"Wait a minute, they took 60% of my salary, so doesn't that mean all these things were paid for with my own money?"

"Damn it, it's all my fault for being subjected to such terrible workplace manipulation in the past." Su Yu lay on the sofa. "Capitalists are capitalists, and I was even feeling sentimental about it."

Banishing these chaotic thoughts from his mind, Su Yu got up from the sofa and began cleaning.

The living room has been uninhabited for half a month, and a thin layer of dust has settled on it.

After tidying up the room, he took a shower, changed into clean clothes, picked up his phone to check the time—it was almost six o'clock, time for dinner.

He thought for a moment and then called Zhang Ruoyun, the old Beijing resident.

The call was connected shortly afterward.

"Hello, what's up?" Zhang Ruoyun's voice came through the receiver.

"I've arrived in Beijing. How about we meet up tonight?"

"Sure, I'll decide on the place. Haoran's here too, let's go together."

Su Yu was taken aback: "Liu Haoran?"

"Yes, that's the kid. We met while filming a show, and we got along really well. You'll see when you come over tonight."

Zhang Ruoyun gave her a restaurant address, "Eight o'clock, don't be late."

At 8 p.m., Su Yu arrived at the restaurant on time.

The location was chosen by Zhang Ruoyun; it was a small hot pot restaurant hidden in a hutong, with a small storefront but steaming hot inside.

As soon as Su Yu entered the private room, he saw Zhang Ruoyun sitting at one end of the table, waving at him with a smile like a husky: "Hurry up, I've been waiting for you for ages!"

A young man sitting next to Zhang Ruoyun was wearing a white hoodie and had a youthful look on his face. When he saw Su Yu come in, he politely stood up and nodded.

"This is Su Yu, my little brother." Zhang Ruoyun patted Su Yu on the shoulder. "We met when we were filming 'Forensic Doctor.' He has a great personality, which is exactly my type."

Then he turned to the young man and said, "You should know this guy, Liu Haoran. We met while filming a show, and I later found out he's my junior from school."

Liu Haoran extended his hand. "Hello, I've seen 'Forensic Doctor Qin Ming,' Lin Tao acted quite well."

Su Yu shook hands with him: "Thank you. I also watched your drama 'With You,' and Yu Huai's acting was spot on."

"Really?" Liu Haoran's eyes lit up.

"Seriously, I have a junior who really likes you. She posts screenshots of you on her WeChat Moments every day."

Su Yu said in a very serious tone.

"Haoran, did you hear that? That junior likes you. Why don't you hurry up and make your move?"

Zhang Ruoyun joked.

Liu Haoran scratched the back of his head and smiled a little embarrassedly.

The three sat down, and the clear broth in the copper pot was already boiling. The mutton slices changed color as soon as they were dipped in the broth, and when dipped in sesame sauce, they looked very appetizing.

"Yu Zi, why did you come to the capital so soon? The New Year isn't even over yet."

"I'm going to audition for a role."

"What role?"

"The male lead in a youth drama, the kind of campus heartthrob, seems like a good fit for me."

Zhang Ruoyun put down her chopsticks, stared at Su Yu for two seconds, and then turned to Liu Haoran and said in a serious tone.

"Haoran, do you know what I admire most about my brother?"

Liu Haoran asked cooperatively, "Which point?"

Su Yu immediately answered, "Then they must admire me for being handsome, good-looking, highly educated, and talented."

"Get lost."

Zhang Ruoyun laughed and scolded, pointed at Su Yu, and said to Liu Haoran,

"Look, I really admire his shamelessness. He's got the skin to work in the entertainment industry."

Liu Haoran laughed at the two of them, raised his glass and clinked it with Su Yu's: "Brother Yu, your personality is really interesting."

"It's alright." Su Yu took a sip of his drink, his expression unchanged. "The main thing is to tell the truth."

The atmosphere immediately relaxed.

The three of them ate and chatted, initially discussing interesting stories and gossip from the entertainment industry.

As we chatted, someone started the conversation, and the topic veered from the messy things in Hengdian to international news.

The three men offered their opinions on the newly elected president of the United States, analyzing the international situation one after another, but in the end, none of them convinced the others.

"You two know everything! Why don't you two go work at the White House?"

Zhang Ruoyun and Liu Haoran turned their heads at the same time.

"Get lost!"

The meal lasted until after 10 p.m. Su Yu and Liu Haoran both felt that the other's personality suited their tastes, so they exchanged contact information before parting ways.

Zhang Ruoyun called a designated driver, and Liu Haoran, who was going the same way, left first.

Su Yu then took a taxi back to his apartment.

After arriving home, Su Yu opened his phone and found many unread messages on WeChat.

The vast majority of them were burned by Wang Churan.

"Have you arrived yet?"

"Have you got a meal yet?"

Why aren't you replying to my messages?

"Su Yu!"

"You stinky Su Yu!"

"I'm getting angry if you don't reply to me soon!"

.......

Su Yu scrolled through the dozen or so messages, but instead of replying, he made a video call directly.

I answered it after it rang twice.

The screen lit up, and Wang Churan's face appeared on the screen. She was wearing a fluffy nightgown, her hair was loose, and she was nestled in bed.

Upon seeing Su Yu's face, she immediately puffed out her cheeks, turned her face to the side, and left him with only a pouty profile.

"What's wrong?" Su Yu asked.

"Why aren't you replying to my messages!" Wang Churan turned her face back, trying to look fierce, but there was no harm in her bright eyes.

"I'm angry!"

Su Yu leaned against the headboard and explained, "Old Zhang, that is, Zhang Ruoyun, and I got together and went out for a meal. He brought some friends, and we chatted for a while."

"Hmph." Wang Churan twirled a strand of hair with her finger, looking out of the screen, her lips slightly pursed.

"Eating doesn't stop you from replying to your girlfriend's messages. Can't you even reply to one message when you go to the bathroom? Don't you even have time to glance at your phone?"

Knowing he was in the wrong, Su Yu softened his voice: "Okay, okay, it was my fault."

He brought the phone closer and gave the screen a kiss, "a kiss to show my apology."

Wang Churan rolled her eyes at him and snorted, "You're never serious."

"Baby," Wang Churan's voice suddenly softened, "I'm so nervous about the entrance exam for the Shanghai Theatre Academy soon."

Looking at the bright, pretty face on the screen, Su Yu said earnestly, "You're so beautiful and so hardworking, you'll definitely pass."

"Really?"

"Really, as long as the art exam judges aren't blind, you'll definitely pass."

Hearing Su Yu's praise, Wang Churan smiled.

"It's not as exaggerated as you say."

"By the way, when was your audition?"

"Next Monday."

"Keep going!" Her tone became serious. "I believe you can pass."

Su Yu looked into her bright, sparkling eyes and nodded: "Mm."

After hanging up the video call, Su Yu leaned against the bed in his bedroom, gazing absently at the street scene outside the window.

This audition was different from the previous ones.

When he was vying for the second male lead role in "Forensic Doctor Qin Ming," he used a cost-effective strategy, making the production team feel that casting him was worthwhile.

But this time it's the male lead. A drama relies on the male and female leads to carry it, and the production company won't risk using someone who can't carry the drama just to save a little money on the actor's salary.

The logic of cost-effectiveness doesn't work for this audition.

We still need to strengthen our own capabilities first.

And that idiot Song Jiawen is going to audition too. What if he beats me...?

Thinking of this, Su Yu immediately took out his phone and sent a message to his assistant, Xiao Zhou.

"Please contact the company's acting coach tomorrow. I'd like to add a few lessons before the audition."
