Chinese Entertainment: Top-Tier Boyfriends of Young Actresses

Chapter 11: Filming Wraps Up and New Work Arrangements

After returning to school and finishing his exams, Su Yu treated his roommates to a big meal to express his gratitude.

His roommate didn't stand on ceremony with him and ordered a table full of dishes. While eating, he complained that he hadn't seen a soul this semester. Su Yu smiled and accepted the punishment, downing three drinks in a row.

The day after finishing the exam, Su Yu rushed back to the Ningxia film crew without stopping.

His remaining scenes are few, concentrated in the final parts of several war scenes.

Around mid-January, filming for the role of Hu Qing officially wrapped up. The crew prepared a bouquet of flowers for him, and Ma Sichun patted him on the shoulder and said, "Keep in touch." Lu Haojiji, unusually, said a few more words, praising his performance.

Wang Churan also finished filming two days after he left the group.

On January 19th, after returning to Beijing, Su Yu first went back to the company to report for duty.

Noon Sunshine's office is located in Chaoyang District, where they rent an entire floor of office space.

As soon as Su Yu arrived at the company, his assistant, Xiao Zhou, came to greet him.

"Brother Yu, Sister Huo is waiting for you inside."

Sister Huo's real name is Huo Xiaolan. She is in her early forties, has short hair, wears gold-rimmed glasses, speaks quickly, and is efficient in her work.

She is one of the heads of the artist management department at Daylight Entertainment, and she is in charge of several new talents, including Su Yu.

She was the one who handled Su Yu's initial contract with Noon Sunshine. In the past few months, she has been remotely following up on all of Su Yu's work arrangements in Beijing, from coordinating the broadcast of "Forensic Qin Ming" to the contract details of "General and I," leaving no stone unturned.

"Sit down." Sister Huo pointed to the chair opposite her and pushed a stack of documents over. "Your fame has risen recently, and several production teams have submitted scripts to you. Take a look."

Su Yu picked it up and flipped through it.

The first one is a period fantasy drama. The male lead is a popular young actor, and he is given the role of the third male lead - a junior brother who is a tool and is responsible for creating misunderstandings between the male and female leads. In the end, he sacrifices himself to save the male lead.

He couldn't continue reading the script after flipping through three pages; the lines were so awkward they made his scalp tingle.

The second one is a modern urban drama. The character is one of the female lead's suitors. He is a rich second-generation heir. He appears in a sports car, flaunts his bank card, and says, "Name your price."

Su Yu closed it immediately.

The third one is even more outrageous. It's an online movie called "My Boyfriend is a Fox Spirit," and the character he plays is a fox spirit who has cultivated for a thousand years.

Su Yu glanced at the character description, "a bewitchingly handsome man who captivates all beings," and then put the notebook down.

"Have you finished reading it?" Sister Huo asked, holding her teacup, her expression unchanged.

"I've finished reading them," Su Yu pushed the documents back. "Sis, the quality of these notebooks isn't very good."

Sister Huo put down her teacup and said calmly, "I know. But your current level of fame is what it is. Most of the scripts that can directly invite you are of this caliber. Good scripts won't come to you on their own; you have to fight for them yourself."

Su Yu nodded; he understood what he meant.

That's how the entertainment industry is; if you're not famous enough, you don't have the power to choose. Although "Medical Examiner Qin Ming" was a hit, he played the second male lead; the show became popular, not him as a person.

"Have you received any audition offers?" he asked.

Sister Huo pulled out another document from the drawer and handed it over:

"There is one, 'A Love So Beautiful,' a project by Huace Media, a youth campus drama adapted from Zhao Qianqian's novel of the same name."

"The production company is looking for the male lead. The requirements are that he is young, has a youthful vibe, and can portray the charm of a cool and aloof academic genius. They haven't specified anyone, so you need to audition and compete for the role yourself."

Su Yu took it and turned to the first page.

"A Love So Beautiful" tells the sweet and romantic story of Jiang Chen, a cool and aloof academic genius who is tsundere, and his childhood sweetheart, from school to marriage.

He had heard of that name before.

In his previous life, he didn't pay much attention to the entertainment industry. The shows he had heard of were either so bad they were considered terrible, or so popular they were considered wildly popular.

"A Love So Beautiful" belongs to the latter category. He vaguely remembers that this drama made two newcomers, a male and a female, famous. The male one later became a popular celebrity, and the female one also became famous.

He couldn't remember exactly who it was, but he remembered the title of the play.

"This one will do." Su Yu closed the document. "I'll give it a try."

Sister Huo glanced at him. She hadn't been with Su Yu for long, but after observing him for the past few months, she discovered that this young man had something special about him: he was opinionated, but not the kind of impulsive person who made decisions on a whim.

In hindsight, every choice he made made sense.

This is how they chose Noon Sunshine Productions, this is how they lowered prices to compete for "Forensic Doctor Qin Ming," and this is how they choose scripts now.

"Okay, Xiao Zhou will send you the audition time and location later. Get ready."

Su Yu nodded and was about to get up when Sister Huo picked up another stack of documents from the table and pushed it over.

"We have a few more endorsement offers in mind, take a look."

Su Yu took it and flipped through it.

He has a regional endorsement for a third-tier sportswear brand and an endorsement for an unknown skincare product.

The endorsement fees aren't high; the most expensive one is only a little over six figures.

Moreover, the brands vary in their brand image.

After reading it, he closed the file.

"Let's cancel them all."

Sister Huo raised an eyebrow.

"I'm still in my rising phase, so these endorsements aren't expensive, and the brands they represent aren't particularly prestigious."

Su Yu pushed the documents back, saying, "Instead of taking on a bunch of low-end endorsements now and fixing your market value, it's better to wait until you have more works and your popularity is stable. The brands and terms you can negotiate with then will be completely different."

Sister Huo leaned back in her chair and stared at him for several seconds.

"Okay." She took back the endorsement documents. "I agree with your idea."

"The most common mistake newcomers make is accepting any endorsement after they become famous, which lowers their market value and makes it difficult to move up later. The fact that you can think of this shows that you are really planning your own path."

Su Yu didn't reply.

"What are the plans for the next period of time?" Sister Huo asked.

"Take a few days off, then celebrate the Lunar New Year, and then go for the audition."

Sister Huo nodded.

"Okay, we've been filming 'Oh My General' for almost half a year, so it's time for a break. But don't let it go to waste. Practice the audition scenes beforehand."

"By the way, the company has acting teachers and physical education teachers. If you have time, you can book two lessons. Your problem right now is not that you can't act, but that your basic skills are not solid enough. You are prone to showing your insecurity when you encounter scenes that require precise control."

"it is good."

As he left Sister Huo's office, he suddenly remembered that Wang Churan's birthday was coming up soon, and he had promised to celebrate it with her.

If I don't go to find her, that little girl will definitely make a scene again.

Thinking of this, he took out his phone, opened WeChat, and sent a message to Wang Churan.

"I'm back in Beijing. Are you free these next few days? I'd like to come to Shanghai to see you."

About thirty seconds later, the other end replied.

"available!!!"

"When are you coming?"

"Now that you're here, I'll take you to eat something delicious!!!"

"tomorrow."
