Chapter 14, First Real-World Practice

The chefs at the food stalls were tossing woks over high heat in front of the stoves, the oil sizzling, and soon, plates of steaming hot late-night snacks were served.

Ruan Xiaotang sat opposite him, watching Li Chang'an wolf down his food, her face full of surprise:

"Why are you so hungry? Didn't you just have dinner?"

Li Chang'an ate two grilled oysters and mumbled:

"It's normal to get hungry quickly during this period of rapid growth. You should eat too. If you don't supplement your nutrition during puberty, it will be too late to do so later."

At this point, he unconsciously thought of Su Xingning.

Su Xingning has always been a picky eater with very discerning tastes. She would only eat three bites of any delicacy before giving up.

The result was that although she had a pair of enviable long legs, she was very slender.

I remember when I was in Form Four in Hong Kong, Su Xingning asked him very seriously what style of bra would suit her best. (Form Four in Hong Kong in the 1970s is equivalent to Form One in today's high school)

Li Chang'an replied, "Your figure can't even fill out a bra, why are you even thinking about that?"

The girl immediately flew into a rage and chased after him, determined to fight him to the death.

Since then, she has been eating papayas every day, but unfortunately, she hasn't made much progress. It's clear that if you don't work hard when you're young, you'll only end up with a smaller cup size when you're older.

Young man, if you aspire to become a great hero, you must not only diligently practice martial arts, but also nourish your body with proper nutrition. Sufficient food replenishes your vital energy; when your energy and blood are abundant, your martial arts skills will naturally develop.

The two quickly devoured several large plates of late-night snacks. Ruan Xiaotang, rubbing her slightly bulging belly, complained:

"It's all your fault, Brother Chang'an, I'm definitely going to gain weight today."

But Li Chang'an only felt six or seven tenths full, and even wanted to order more.

Martial arts practitioners expend a lot of energy and have an unusual appetite. It's no wonder that people say "the poor study literature, the rich study martial arts"—it's impossible to support someone without a wealthy family.

"Sorry, Xiaotang, I'm afraid you'll have to work overtime a little longer. Could you please bring another grouper and a plate of grilled oysters..."

Ruan Xiaotang rolled her eyes at him helplessly, but she didn't hold a grudge. She turned around and placed another order.

As a result, the freshly ordered, steaming hot late-night snack had barely been served when a commotion suddenly broke out not far away.

Boom boom—

Several motorcycles sped through the crowded night market street, roaring past before abruptly stopping in front of another food stall.

Eight young men with tattoos of characters like "righteousness," "courage," and "dragon and tiger" on their arms jumped off the car, grabbed sticks, and without saying a word surrounded four men drinking at the table, starting to beat them with their sticks.

The tables and chairs were instantly knocked over and scattered, creating a chaotic scene.

Seeing that things were going badly, the nearby stall owners hurriedly packed up their things to avoid trouble.

Ruan Xiaotang also subconsciously tensed up, moved closer to Li Chang'an, and said in a low voice with a hint of surprise:

"Brother Chang'an, the one with long hair leading the group is a student who was expelled from our school. Everyone calls him Fei Zai Dong."

"Fei Zai Dong?"

"Yes, he originally lived in the Shek Tong Tsui area. At that time, his father was a warehouse manager at the nearby dock. Later, he got into a conflict with the workers and crippled one of them with a wrench. He was then fired from the dock and moved away."

I heard that a few years ago their family moved to Central to do recycling business and made a fortune, and they even have triad connections.

Li Chang'an and Ruan Xiaotang watched the chaotic battle ahead while eating grilled fish and oysters and chatting.

From the insults exchanged between the two sides, Li Chang'an and Ruan Xiaotang understood that the four men who had been beaten were also local thugs from the Sai Wan area, and that their current conflict was nothing more than a dog-eat-dog fight over territory.

Therefore, the two men showed no sympathy for them being beaten.

Meanwhile, after a brief but intense battle, the outcome was quickly decided.

The four men were drunk and unarmed, so they were no match for Fei Zai Dong and his seven young men who were armed with sticks. Before long, they were beaten black and blue and lay on the ground in a sorry state.

Just as Fei Zai Dong and the others took out ropes, intending to tie up the man and take him away, the man with the protruding belly suddenly sprang up, using the momentum of the collision to knock down two young men, and then ran wildly forward.

"Damn it! Chase after it!"

Fei Zai Dong roared angrily and, wielding a stick, took the lead in chasing after them.

He walked briskly, rushing and crashing through the crowd. When he passed Li Chang'an's food stall, he kicked over a table that was blocking his way.

The wooden table overturned, and bowls and plates shattered and splashed everywhere.

The table crashed out of control and headed towards a little boy who was having a late-night snack with his mother.

Before the boy's mother could get up to shield her son from the table, she saw a strong arm pull her son away.

[Young man, you bravely stepped forward when a child was about to suffer; this is an act of chivalry and courage. Your innate Qi +0.01]

Li Chang'an stretched out his long arm and pulled the boy behind him. Then, he raised his leg and kicked the overturned table back hard.

boom--

The overturned wooden table crashed back into Fei Zai Dong with such force that he nearly lost his balance and fell to the ground.

Fei Zai Dong was stunned at first, seemingly not expecting that someone would dare to resist his rampant dominance.

He immediately flew into a rage, no longer caring about the fleeing general with the potbelly.

He glared fiercely at Li Chang'an and the mother and son huddled behind him.

"Fuck your mother! I didn't expect anyone in Shek Tong Tsui to dare mess with me!"

Before he finished speaking, he grabbed a plastic chair next to him and slammed it down on Li Chang'an, while simultaneously striking him with a stick.

This move, which uses a stool as cover while striking simultaneously, demonstrates Fei Zai's extensive experience in street brawls, and he has indeed relied on this tactic to great effect in past fights.

Unexpectedly, Li Chang'an, while protecting the two people behind him from the plastic chairs, displayed amazing physical flexibility.

His footwork was as nimble as a snake, his upper body effortlessly dodging the whistling clubs at incredible angles.

Before Fei Zai Dong could retract the stick he had thrown, Li Chang'an's footwork was like a nimble snake weaving through the forest, instantly closing in on his opponent. His hands formed snake fangs, and he darted out like a venomous snake, aiming for the opponent's eyes and groin.

Two snakes playing with a pearl!

Fei Zai Dong felt a sharp pain in both his upper and lower eyes, let out a wail, and his strength instantly dissipated, causing him to collapse to the ground.

The remaining henchmen rushed forward and swung their sticks at him.

Li Chang'an remained calm, his feet firmly planted in a serpentine pattern, his waist twisting left and right like a nimble snake, weaving through the gaps in the shadows of the staff.

Seeing a stick sweep across his waist from the left, he suddenly flipped his wrist, his forearm taut like a snake raising its scales, deflecting the stick's fierce force.

At the same time, seize the opportunity and punch the opponent in the throat.

Li Chang'an had eyes in all directions and ears in all directions.

After taking down another person, his arm coiled around the wrists of the two men holding sticks like a snake, twisting and wrenching them away. Then, with a monstrous spin, his core strength suddenly exploded, causing the two men to slam heavily to the ground.

After seizing the two sticks, Li Chang'an held one in each hand, his eyes cold and sharp like a snake as he stared at the remaining three people and the two young men who had been thrown down and were barely getting up.

In many traditional kung fu styles, it is not just about practicing fists or kicks, but about integrating fists and weapons. Each school of kung fu has its own suitable and proficient weapon.

For example, Li Shuwen, the grandmaster known as the "Divine Spear" in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, practiced Bajiquan and the Liuhe Spear, which was adapted to Bajiquan.

Li Shuwen, skilled in both fist and spear, fought against Japanese instructors in front of both Yuan Shikai and Zhang Zuolin, killing five Japanese instructors with both gun and fist, thus establishing his reputation in Japan.

This has made Bajiquan extremely popular and highly regarded in Japan. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces and some special units have even modified and incorporated the six major opening moves and eight major killing moves of Bajiquan into their own combat systems when training in combat techniques.

Just as Bajiquan (八极拳) has its own suitable weapon, the Snake Style Fist (蛇形拳) is the staff.

The fist is a short stick, and the stick is a long fist; fist and stick are one, without any flaws in length!

Li Chang'an had never practiced internal martial arts, and his physical strength was somewhat exhausted from the continuous battles. However, at this moment, he was proficient in both short stick and long fist techniques, and his spirit was greatly enhanced. Facing the remaining five people, he was even more spirited!
