Chen Hao didn't urge Lin Caiwei, but silently hugged her, gently patted her back, and patiently helped her calm down.

"Don't cry." Chen Hao spoke softly after she calmed down a bit.

"The past is gone, and the road ahead is long. Now that you're back, you can slowly watch her grow up and gradually make up for all the regrets."

Lin Caiwei sniffed hard, slowly lifting her head from his shoulder. Her eyes were red, like a wronged little rabbit.

She stared intently at Chen Hao, asking softly, her tone tinged with unease and anticipation:

"Chen Hao".

"I am here."

"Will you stay with Sisi and me forever, and never leave us?"

Chen Hao met her reddened eyes directly, without the slightest hesitation, his tone firm and solemn.

"meeting."

That single word carried immense weight, instantly calming Lin Caiwei's anxieties.

Tears streamed down her face again, but this time, she smiled with relief.

She gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, then leaned back against Chen Hao's shoulder with a sense of peace.

The living room was quiet, with only the soft light of the nightlight enveloping the two of them.

The light fell on them, stretching their shadows long and overlapping them tightly on the wall, inseparable.

After sitting quietly for an unknown amount of time, Lin Caiwei's voice rang out again, soft and sweet, filled with drowsiness.

"Chen Hao, I'm sleepy, I want to go to sleep."

"Then let's go back to our room and sleep," Chen Hao replied softly.

The two slowly got up, still moving very quietly, afraid of making any noise that might wake the little one sleeping soundly in the bedroom.

Pushing open the bedroom door, Sisi was still sleeping soundly, lying peacefully, except that half of the blanket had been kicked off and was lying on the floor next to the bed.

Lin Caiwei bent down to pick up the blanket and gently covered Sisi with it, wrapping the little one up tightly.

She gently lay back down on the bed. As soon as she lay down, Sisi, who was fast asleep, seemed to sense it and instinctively snuggled into her arms, clinging tightly to her mother.

Chen Hao lay down as well, and the little guy unconsciously reached out his other hand and grabbed his pajama sleeve tightly.

The family of three exchanged a quiet glance across the dim, quiet darkness, separated only by their sleeping child.

Lin Caiwei smiled gently, her eyes filled with tenderness and peace, and then slowly closed her eyes.

Chen Hao gently closed his eyes, feeling a sense of peace and warmth all over him.

On the small bed, the family of three snuggled together, peaceful and happy.

The night was quiet, the years were peaceful, and everything was just right.

……

The next morning, Lin Caiwei slowly woke up in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

Before she even opened her eyes, she instinctively reached out and touched the bed beside her. The blankets were still warm, clearly proving that Chen Hao had only been gone a short while.

A soft, small bundle nestled heavily in her arms—it was Sisi, still fast asleep.

The little one was sleeping very soundly, one tiny hand tightly gripping the collar of her pajamas, her little fist clenched tightly.

As if afraid that her mother would disappear if she let go, her chubby little face was pressed against her chest, her breathing even and gentle.

Lin Caiwei moved very gently, carefully prying open her daughter's soft little fingers, afraid that the noise would wake the sleeping child.

After struggling for several seconds, I finally managed to gently move Sisi's little hand away.

She propped herself up and slowly sat up, her head still a little groggy from just waking up. After a moment, she bent down to put on the slippers by the bed and tiptoed out of the bedroom.

As soon as I stepped into the living room, I heard the rhythmic and crisp sound of chopping vegetables coming from the kitchen.

Chen Hao was indeed in the kitchen.

The clay pot on the stove was bubbling softly, and the aroma of white porridge wafted out slowly, warm and comforting.

He stood in front of the countertop by the stove, wearing loose-fitting home clothes and a simple apron tied around his waist, looking clean and gentle.

He held the cleaver in his hand, his wrist steady, and with each stroke, the ingredients on the cutting board were neatly chopped. The rhythmic "thump, thump, thump" sound was distinct and unhurried, giving people a sense of peace.

Lin Caiwei didn't make a sound to disturb him. She just leaned quietly against the kitchen door frame, watching his back.

His usually slender and upright back looked exceptionally reliable and dependable in his loose loungewear.

She watched silently for a while, her heart feeling soft and warm, as if it were being soaked in warm water.

"woke up?"

Chen Hao didn't turn around at all, and his hands didn't stop moving for a moment. He accurately sensed her presence just by the sound of her footsteps. His voice was deep and gentle, with a lazy hoarseness from the early morning.

"Yes, you're awake." Lin Caiwei straightened up, stepped into the kitchen, and stood steadily beside him. Her gaze fell on the neatly arranged ingredients on the cutting board, and she spoke softly.

"Are you taking Sisi to kindergarten today?"

Chen Hao carefully chopped the last bit of scallions and gently swept them into a small dish beside him, his movements meticulous and attentive.

"Yes, I'll take you. Are you coming along today?"

Lin Caiwei nodded gently, her tone carrying a hint of barely perceptible guilt: "I want to see her off once."

This child has been talking to me a lot lately, asking me several times before bed why other children are picked up and dropped off by their parents every day, but she is always only taken by her father, and asking me why she never goes to kindergarten.

Seeing her pleading look, I felt really bad.

Upon hearing this, Chen Hao stopped what he was doing and turned to look at her.

She was still wearing loose pajamas, her long hair was messy and draped over her shoulders, and her face was clean and without any makeup. Her bare face made her look exceptionally young and pure.

However, there was a faint dark circle under her eyes, a result of long-term lack of rest and being burdened by worries.

Chen Hao felt a warmth spread through his heart, his tone carrying a hint of admonition:

"You can go if you want, but remember to wear a mask and hat properly to cover yourself up."

"I know." Lin Caiwei couldn't help but smile slightly.

"Don't worry, I'll be fully disguised and covered up completely, so no one will recognize me."

The two quickly prepared breakfast, and not long after they finished eating, Sisi's soft, sweet babbling came from the bedroom; the little one had woken up.

Sisi rubbed her sleepy eyes and climbed out of bed. Still half asleep, she looked up and saw her mother putting on her coat.

She froze instantly, blinking her big eyes several times, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
