Chapter 38 Acquaintances

Rhodes, wielding the Taizu Long Fist, was unstoppable among the wolves. However, using his fists to fight off creatures much shorter than him, such as wolves, made him feel somewhat powerless.

After he smashed the heads of several wolves, the remaining eight or nine wolves dared not attack him head-on.

Why didn't these wolves just leave with the wild boar's carcass? Why did they stay and fight me to the death? Are they that vengeful?

Rhodes' breathing became increasingly rapid as time passed. He seized every opportunity to recover his strength, but the wolves gave him no chance. After a fierce battle with the wild boars at dusk, he had not yet fully recovered.

He wanted to draw a suitable weapon, but only drew a strangely shaped throwing knife. He wanted to draw another piece of equipment, but was told that he had reached the limit of ten draws for the week.

He could only continue wearing those boxing gloves and using Taizu Changquan to deal with these wolves.

Each time, the wolves would feign an attack to draw Rhodes' attention, then ambush him from another direction. He tried to chase them, but they couldn't outrun him.

His fur coat was torn to shreds from being bitten all over, and he was almost completely exhausted.

"If we kill that alpha wolf, they won't be able to cooperate so perfectly anymore," Rhode thought to himself, looking at the strongest wolf.

He opened the system and took out a thin needle that he had drawn earlier. He had checked the instructions for the needle while he was grilling the meat.

Poisoned Needles (12 needles): The tips of the needles are coated with five different kinds of deadly poisons, which will cause rapid death after poisoning.

It seems I'll have to resort to some methods that Baron despises this time. He held the needle in his hand and pretended to be injured and fall to the ground after being bitten on the thigh by a wolf.

Seeing this, the other wolves rushed over in a swarm. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Rod quickly got up and rushed towards the alpha wolf, sticking the needle into its body. The alpha wolf quickly retreated after being pricked by the needle.

After retreating to what it considered a safe position, it shook its head, fell to the ground, and began to convulse.

The wolves in the pack stopped attacking Rhodes and ran back to the alpha wolf, sniffing it all over. Soon, the alpha wolf foamed at the mouth, stopped convulsing, and remained motionless.

The wolves all raised their heads and howled at the sky. Taking advantage of the moment, Rhodes charged toward the howling wolves, who began to dodge and let out terrified cries.

Enraged by Rhodes, they all pounced on him. Facing these wolves who were fighting independently and no longer cooperating in their attacks, Rhodes risked being bitten by the wolves and swung his fists like cannonballs at them.

The wolves did not flee after being wounded, but instead became even more ferocious. Rhodes, his eyes bloodshot, roared and launched an even more ferocious attack on the maddened wolves.

Soon, all the wolves were beaten to death by Rhodes' fists, leaving behind a pile of corpses. Rhodes was covered in blood, but most of it was from the wolves; he only suffered minor injuries.

After resolving the battle, Rhode felt somewhat relieved. Fortunately, it was just a pack of ordinary wild wolves. If he had encountered frost wolves, which were almost as powerful as tigers and could also use magic, he would have been doomed.

I don't know what went wrong with these wolves, they actually fought to the bitter end.

Today has truly been my unlucky day; so many unfortunate things have happened.

Will I get rabies if I am bitten by a wolf?

Will the bite wounds on my body become infected and inflamed?

"Is it safe?" Aya asked from the tree, interrupting Rhodes' thoughts.

"You can get down now," Rhodes replied, all he wanted to do after several intense battles was sleep.

However, the battle was still rewarding, at least it improved my proficiency with Iron Shirt.

He led Aya back to the campfire, where the firelight had dimmed considerably. Rod added some more firewood and said to Aya, "You keep watch for a while, then wake me up to relieve you."

After he finished speaking, he fell asleep with his head resting on a tree branch.

……

Rhodes woke up and rubbed his eyes, only to find that it was already fully light. He looked around and saw a few embers still burning in the campfire, next to the carcass of a wild boar, but Aya was not nearby.

"He probably ran away while I was asleep last night," Rod chuckled to himself.

He stood up, stretched, covered his mouth with his hand, and breathed out a puff of air.

Fortunately, it didn't smell too bad even though I hadn't brushed my teeth.

He looked up and observed the growth of the trees. The side with the most lush trees was to the south. If he wanted to find Baron and the others, he had to go south. Rhodes had already made up his mind.

He touched his body, intending to use the dagger he had drawn yesterday to cut off some pieces of wild boar meat to roast for breakfast, only to find that the dagger was gone.

It must have been taken by Aya. Luckily, he didn't slit my throat while I was asleep last night. I don't know if he was too afraid or didn't want to do it.

He remembered the throwing knife he had drawn yesterday, the one whose instructions he hadn't even read yet.

Mother-Child Throwing Knife: Every day, the mother throwing knife tastes blood, and every day the mother throwing knife can produce a child throwing knife.

This looks pretty good. If I save up for a few years, I could open a knife-throwing shop to make a living. But it's best to pass it down as a family heirloom.

Rod took out his throwing knife, preparing to cut off some wild boar meat. In this cold weather, wild boar meat is practically the same whether it's outside or in the refrigerator; it'll definitely still be edible after being left overnight.

The throwing knife wasn't as sharp as the steel dagger from yesterday, but it was still good enough to cut meat. After cutting off a piece of wild boar meat, the knife absorbed some pig blood and then began to vibrate violently. Rhodes was startled by the sudden vibration and dropped the knife to the ground.

After a few seconds, the throwing knife stopped vibrating, and next to it appeared another throwing knife with wild boar patterns on it.

It seems we won't have to worry about making a living in the future. The daughter throwing knives produced by the mother knife should sell well as handicrafts. Even a blacksmith with average skills couldn't make such exquisite patterns.

He tried out the newly created sub-knife and found it to be a bit sharper than the mother knife, so he picked it up and continued cutting meat.

If Rod had used a knife that had fallen on the ground and wasn't washed before, he definitely wouldn't have accepted it. But now he's not so particular about it anymore.

He added some branches to the fire, and it caught fire again. He then began grilling meat using the makeshift grill he had made the night before.

After filling his stomach, Rod cut off a few pieces of wild boar meat and set off towards the dense forest.

On the way, he suddenly thought, if I weren't in the Kingdom of Nord, wouldn't I just be going further and further south?

However, judging from the location, this is definitely a northern forest; the trees in the southern forests are much more lush.

When they reached a stream, Rod squatted down, took off his tattered gloves, and put his hands in the water.

The stream water was icy cold. He scooped up some water to wipe his face, then scooped up a handful and drank a few mouthfuls. He no longer cared about parasites or germs.

He also wanted to drink boiled water but didn't have a pot. He had just gotten up and eaten roast meat, which made him extremely thirsty.

Without a clock, he could only rely on the sun to tell time. When the sun was at its highest point, Rod discovered several small wooden houses.

This must be a temporary shelter for hunters while they hunt. He approached the cabin and heard men talking. He went up and knocked on the door, intending to ask the person inside how to leave the forest.

He heard a man cursing, then the wooden door of the hut opened, revealing a mercenary who looked very familiar. Inside sat someone he knew: Piert Kaman…
