Chapter 121 Door-to-Door Visit
Chapter 121 Door-to-Door Visit
"You took care of it so quickly? Didn't we just make a wasted trip?" Baron said, looking at Bill on the ground.
After all, four or five people died not far from the hotel, and many people witnessed it all. It would be best to go and negotiate a solution in person to avoid any unforeseen troubles later.
"Let's set off now. Take us to your knights' headquarters," Miles said.
Bill sighed, stood up unsteadily, rubbed his back, and walked to the front.
"Do you know much about the Blue Ocean Knights?" Rhodes asked Messiah as they walked down the street.
"I only know a little bit, but I've heard that their knightly order is quite good and has protected the safety of the coastal residents," Misel replied, holding a golden chain in her hand, which was divided into several sections to bind the fierce-looking people.
In the palm of his other hand was a bright ball of light, illuminating the path forward in the darkness.
"You should ask me about this." Miles was no longer afraid. "People from the western continent of Velen are always coming to the west coast of our Fish Kingdom to burn, kill, and plunder. The Blue Sea Knights are constantly patrolling the coastal villages and sometimes even sailing out to clear out pirate fleets and protect the people on the coast."
Led by Bill, they led a group of people bound by magical chains, and no city guards questioned them. They then walked along the street, amidst the strange looks of passersby, until they arrived in front of a tower.
This should be the Blue Ocean Knights' base in Bayview City. Besides this, they should also have castles elsewhere.
Manor-like settlements.
"Open the door!" Bill shouted at the guards at the door.
Upon hearing Bill's voice, the guard opened the tower door.
"Who are they?" one of the guards asked.
"You had a few prisoners who escaped, and we brought them back for you," Rod said.
"Don't ask any more questions. We're going to see the deputy commander. He's going to rest soon." Bill pushed past the two guards and led Rhodes and the others inside.
Rod had assumed Bill would take them to the top of the tower, but instead Bill opened a door on the other side of the tower and led them into the courtyard behind it.
"Our commander isn't at this post right now; the deputy commander lives in that house," Bill said, pointing to a large house next to the yard.
"You come in with us, and you go knock on the door," Rod said. Bill seemed very afraid to see their vice commander, after all, he had done such a wrong thing.
Bill reluctantly went up and knocked on the door.
"Come in!" came an elderly voice from inside, without asking who it was.
Rhodes and his men went inside, accompanied by a group of prisoners.
Inside the room sat an elderly man with gray hair, his back to the door, reading a book by the faint light of an oil lamp.
"What happened?" he asked, turning around.
"You speak," Rod said, glancing at Bill.
Bill recounted the events in general terms, without concealing anything or distorting the facts.
"Go to the confessional room yourself. We'll see how you behave when you come out. Also, take these prisoners with you. The commander will deal with you for releasing them without permission when he returns." Bill breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the old man's words, rubbing his back as he left the room.
"Bill is an impulsive, short-tempered, and naive boy. I apologize for what he did," the old man said, standing up. Judging from his hairstyle and clothing, he seemed to be a very particular person.
Rhodes had made preparations before his arrival. Miles used his bard skills to let several nearby inns know that the Blue Ocean Knights' "Blue Ocean Bear" had lost the match and led a group of people to the opponent's residence to retaliate.
Duke Orn does not permit such behavior; if everyone did, his tournaments would be impossible to hold, and he has included this rule in the regulations. Anyone who retaliates after a match and is reported will be banned from competition for life. If the person is a member of a large organization, such as a large mercenary group or knightly order, the organization must apologize to the individual and punish the member who violated the rules; otherwise, the organization will be banned from competition.
Before Rhodes and his group set off, Miles had already made arrangements with the people he had met over the past few days. If they didn't return, he would spread the word throughout the city. To ensure they wouldn't break their promise, he even gave them a few gold coins.
However, Rhodes wasn't worried at all. The Blue Ocean Knights hadn't lost anything besides face this time, and the one who lost face wasn't Rhodes, but Bill. It was Bill's actions that caused them to lose honor. If anyone were to be punished, it would be Bill. If he harmed Rhodes and the others as well, their loss of honor would be even greater.
After all, the Knights need a positive image and recognition of their honor. Even the Chaos Knights, who swept across the continent of Velen, did so under the guise of spreading their doctrines and enlightening the people.
"Is it alright if I kill your prisoners?" Rhodes asked.
"They were already heinous criminals, deserving of death. As long as you don't pursue this matter, I assure you we won't cause you any trouble," the old man said, looking at Rhodes.
"You mean if I pursue this, you'll cause us trouble?" Baron asked, his thought process sometimes different from others.
The old man's expression changed; he hadn't expected Baron to ask such a question.
"It was a slip of the tongue. I can assure you we won't cause you any trouble, but please don't pursue this matter further; it won't benefit us. We will send people to clean up the scene. Please don't tell anyone that it was our knights who did it. If you want monetary compensation, that's fine with us," the old man said.
But Miles had already told everyone about it.
"Even if you've already said it, it's alright. Just go back and explain to others that it was a misunderstanding, and we'll handle it," the old man said again.
The old man's attitude puzzled Rhodes. He was prepared for a fight or a long standoff, but the vice commander seemed afraid that we would spread the news.
"We don't need monetary compensation. Just teach that Bill a lesson and promise not to cause us any more trouble," Rod said.
"I swear in the name of the sea god that our knights will never cause you any trouble again," the old man said.
"We'll be going now," Rhodes said. "You need to deal with these prisoners properly, and make sure they don't escape again."
"Don't worry, I won't see you off then." The old man sat back down on the bench.
After leaving the Blue Ocean Knights' base, Rhodes felt somewhat incredulous; he hadn't expected things to be resolved so easily.
"He's not afraid of us, but of Duke Orn," Miles said after leaving the house. "More than a decade ago, a few nobles, like them, wanted to take revenge on their opponents after a competition. Duke Orn found the dirt on the families behind those nobles, then took back their territories and exiled the family members to small islands overseas."
Rod was satisfied that the matter was resolved this way and no one would bother him anymore. He didn't care how the Blue Ocean Knights dealt with Bill; demanding severe punishment wouldn't benefit him much, except for venting his anger—his kick earlier had already satisfied that need. Whether Bill would retaliate against others in the same way was also none of his concern.
Love.
