Chapter 101 Destruction
Rhodes went into the cabin and found the room Quentin had arranged for Hammer.
When I entered the room, Hammer was still fast asleep.
A sense of admiration welled up in Rhodes' heart. The commotion hadn't woken him up at all. Even if he was seasick, that was still quite impressive.
I really envy his sleep quality.
"Hamer." I walked to Hammer's bedside and shook him twice.
"What is it?" Hammer sat up unsteadily, and almost vomited as soon as he opened his mouth to speak.
"Is my 'Catastrophe of the Wise' still with you?" Rhodes asked.
"I almost forgot, you didn't mention it. Last time I tried to fix it for you, but it melted into a dagger when I put it in the furnace." Hammer stood up, rummaged through his bag for a while, and took out a blue dagger, handing it to Rhodes.
"It seems that now it can only release itself actively, and cannot passively affect the people around it," Hammer said as he sat back down on the bed.
"Then you continue to rest, I have some things to do." After saying that, Rhodes walked back towards the deck.
On the deck, Baron frowned as he carefully examined the wooden carving.
Red flames erupted from his palm, turning the wooden carving to ashes. Then the ashes disappeared, and the wooden carving reappeared beside him.
Rod couldn't understand the principle behind this; it was like something out of a horror movie that couldn't be destroyed.
"Let me try this." Rhodes brandished the dagger version of "The Wise Man's Calamity" at Baron.
"Here you go." Baron handed the wooden carving to Rod.
Looking at the wooden carving in his hand, Rhodes felt as if it had a soul, and he could almost feel countless lives wailing in pain inside it.
Taking a deep breath, Rhodes picked up "The Wise Man's Calamity" and slashed at the wooden carving.
"The Wise Man's Calamity" flashed a light upon touching the wood carving, and a black light shone on the carving.
The blue light continued to brighten, and everyone present heard a strange scream.
After the screams completely disappeared, the wooden carving turned into dust with a "bang" and fell to the ground. The mist around the ship also quickly dissipated as the wooden carving shattered, as if it had never existed.
"This time it should have been a success." Baron looked at the ground and saw that the wooden carving had not reappeared as before.
"Probably," Rod replied, looking at the dagger in his hand.
He also received a system notification after destroying the wood carving.
[Collected the shattered souls of sin]
When Rhodes checked the system shop, he found that his chivalry value had increased to 1472 and his Sinful Souls were 0.3.
It seems the system is somewhat different from what he had previously thought; it is absorbing the resentment or soul attached to the divine object, or something else entirely.
However, the system's category is similar to that of divine objects, but it is definitely of a much higher level than the divine objects encountered in the last two encounters. It is roughly equivalent to absorbing items of the same type.
Having earned so many chivalry points, it seems these river bandits committed serious crimes.
Let's save the lottery for later; Rhodes is tired after fighting for so long.
We ran into this group of river pirates right after we finished eating, and we've been fighting ever since. It's almost time for us to go to sleep.
If it weren't for Messiah's divine magic, this battle might have been much harder to win.
Actually, Messiah's magic spell that turned the tide wasn't difficult; it was just that it was used at the right time. If it had been used during the day, the effect would definitely not have been as good.
Rhodes decided that he must learn more magic when he has the chance in the future. It would be a waste of his talent not to make good use of the huge amount of magic power in his body.
Rhode decided to learn both destructive spells like Flametongue and illusion spells like Wrath.
However, even for a spell like Fire Tongue that many people know, the spellbook costs dozens of gold coins, and spellbooks for more advanced spells are even more expensive.
This refers to spellbooks that, once read, will make you feel weak, but allow you to directly learn the spell. Besides these, there are spellbooks that require extensive study and memorizing countless intricate diagrams before you can learn the spell; these are much cheaper.
But some people might spend their whole lives reading these kinds of books and still not learn the art of fire tongue.
To learn magic from this type of book, one must have a sufficient foundation in magic and a strong ability to imagine spatial phenomena. Furthermore, the most advanced magic can only be learned from this type of magic book.
Everyone on the continent knows that mages are much more expensive to play than knights. Rhodes can't even afford a full set of knight equipment and is still just a poor warrior.
Although there was a lot of cavalry equipment on the ground from the last battle at White Hart Castle, most of it was damaged after the fierce fighting, and Rhodes and his men didn't take any of it.
It seems that winning that tournament is quite crucial, otherwise I wouldn't even be able to afford to learn magic with the money I have right now.
After washing off the sticky blood from his body with river water drawn up in a wooden bucket, Rod also helped rinse the deck.
He had just sustained a minor injury, with many small cuts all over his body, and a cut to the muscle in his shoulder. In the past, such an injury would have definitely required a tetanus shot, anti-inflammatory medication, and perhaps even stitches. But people in this world are generally better off in all aspects of their physical condition, including their overall physical fitness.
Rod had also learned the Divine Illumination Technique, so he didn't think this little injury was anything. Baron had told him before: a real man should be like this, letting his injuries heal naturally without any treatment.
He decided to cultivate the Divine Illumination Technique all night and then focus on his inner energy to recover.
This not only healed his injuries but also enhanced his internal strength and mental power.
"Do you need it bandaged?" Misell asked, looking at the wound on Rhodes' shoulder with a clean strip of cloth in hand.
"Now that there's no bleeding, you probably don't need to anymore," Rod replied.
As for why Messiah didn't use divine magic to heal him, almost everyone knows that healing magic actually stimulates the body's potential. Using it too much will deplete the body's resources. For minor injuries like his, it's best not to use divine magic to heal him, as it would be counterproductive.
"Even if there's no bleeding, you still need to bandage it. It can reduce the probability of wound infection. Our Knights have specifically done statistics showing that bandaging can reduce the probability of wound infection." Before Rhodes could refuse again, Misel stepped forward to bandage Rhodes' wound.
Rhodes had previously learned about medieval doctors on Earth, and after transmigrating, he discovered they were quite similar to the doctors in this world. Minor illnesses were often turned into major ones, or even caused to death. There was even a story of a king who died after receiving treatment from a group of doctors for a minor ailment, though he couldn't recall which king it was.
Regardless of the illness, they would resort to bloodletting or using leeches to suck blood. If the hand was injured, they would cut off the hand; if the foot was injured, they would cut off the leg. They even believed that castrating a man could cure all diseases.
"Aren't you going to clean the wound before bandaging it?" Rhodes asked. He had just helped wash the deck and was sweating, so Misell was about to bandage it for him.
"Okay, sorry, I forgot," Misell said, blushing.
"Never mind, I'll just wait for it to heal on its own." Rod was a little scared and quickly slipped back into his room.
If something was fine before, but in this hot weather it gets inflamed and infected because it's covered by a cloth, that would be a huge loss.
I'll teach Messiah some basic medical knowledge when I have the chance, and then let her help with the treatment. Although she doesn't know much about medicine, she used to study biology and knows a lot about microorganisms. She also watches science programs often, so her awareness in this area should be much stronger than that of people in this world...
