Steam Old Days: The Extraordinary Begins with a Corpse Collector
Chapter 96 Eavesdropping, Lyndon's Plans
By the time Lyndon returned to Gray Corner from the city, it was already dark.
He walked through the dim forest with his bone sword, flanked by towering birch trees whose trunks were covered with broken branches, looking sinister like some kind of monster with many eyes.
Strange, jerky noises echoed from time to time in the forest.
Upon hearing this, Linden felt a sudden surge of fear, and he quickened his pace considerably.
But the faster he walked, the more strange noises came from both sides behind him.
The strange noise followed Lyndon closely, as if something would pounce on him at any moment.
As a gust of cold wind blew by, Lyndon was horrified, his skin crawling with goosebumps. At the same time, he also smelled a foul, fishy odor.
That was the smell of a foreign species, one that Lyndon was very familiar with.
"Damn it! Have we been targeted?" Lyndon gripped the bone sword in his hand and quickly walked a distance further.
But the next moment, a pair of eerie green eyes suddenly appeared in the darkness in front of Lyndon.
It floated in mid-air, like a will-o'-the-wisp from a legend that wanders in a graveyard.
Lyndon stopped abruptly, quickly scanning his surroundings to assess his situation.
A dozen or so pairs of eerie green eyes could be seen floating in the woods on both sides.
Lyndon's heart sank, and his breathing became rapid.
He gritted his teeth and shouted at those eyes, "Fine! Since you dare to block my path, no matter what kind of monsters you are, as long as you dare to come closer, I'll use you to consecrate this sword in my hand!"
After saying that, Lyndon tore off the strip of cloth that was covering the bone sword, revealing its true appearance.
In the pitch-black night, the sword emitted a pale white light, with a few crimson specks floating near the blade.
Strangely enough, when Lyndon drew his sword, the eerie green eyes that had been closing in all retreated.
"what?"
Lyndon noticed the unusual look in those eyes and tried to take the initiative to approach them with his sword.
Upon sensing the approach of the bone sword, some of the strange eyes deliberately dimmed their light and disappeared into the darkness.
"They fear this sword in my hand!"
Lyndon quickly realized what was happening.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, he picked up the strip of cloth on the ground, grabbed his sword, and quickly rushed out of the encirclement of those strange-eyed creatures.
Once we left the woods, the surroundings brightened up.
The bright moonlight spilled onto the ground. Lyndon turned to look at the grove of trees and let out a long breath, the tension in his body dissipating with that breath.
"We owe this all to this sword," Lyndon exclaimed, but then a question came to mind.
Why are those alien creatures afraid of the sword in my hand?
Lyndon placed the bone sword before him; white and red light intertwined on the sword, deepening his doubts.
This sword is nothing special; it was simply transformed from his severed arm.
If there is any power in this sword, it is his own spiritual power.
Linden was completely baffled. Finally, he shook his head, rewrapped the bone sword with the cloth strips, and continued walking towards the mud corner.
After walking for about half an hour, Lyndon finally saw the light emanating from the window of the St. Cliff's Sanctuary.
Just as he was about to approach, he suddenly stopped.
Because he saw a carriage slowly drive into the courtyard.
A four-wheeled enclosed carriage, with tall horses and a shield-shaped emblem of "Griffin" inlaid on the side.
Everything felt so familiar.
Lyndon practically blurted out, "Satcliffe!"
Without the slightest hesitation, Lyndon hid behind a bush on the side, peeking out to observe the situation outside the sanctuary.
Then he saw Barkley, who had previously invited him and Alastor to Sutcliffe Estate, get off the carriage, knock on the door, and Cecilia and Herbert led him inside.
Why is he here? Does he know them?
Lyndon retreated into the bushes and muttered to himself.
"No, I have to go check it out!"
So Lyndon tiptoed, concealed himself, bypassed the Sutcliff family carriage parked in front of the courtyard, and crept to a window next to the sanctuary.
Through that window, Lyndon could not only see what was happening inside, but also hear the conversations of the people inside clearly.
Lyndon listened for a while and finally learned why Barkley had come.
"So they've got their eye on my mental abilities and want my help," Linden thought to himself. "Unfortunately, unless I take another mental potion, I can't use any mental techniques right now."
"However..." But then Lyndon thought for a moment, "Since the viscount's target is the Dream Moth, I can agree to it first. That way, Linzi's entry and exit will be resolved. Anyway, he doesn't know that the so-called Philip is me."
Just then, Lyndon saw Barkley take out a bag full of gold coins, and his mouth dropped open and his eyes lit up.
"Wow! No wonder they're nobles! They're so generous!" Lyndon rubbed his hands together, his eyes filled with envy. "They achieve their goals and make money at the same time! Where else in the world can you find such a good deal!"
"Wait a minute, why do I look so much like Alastor?"
Lyndon realized what was happening, put his hand down, and dusted it off his trouser leg as if he were trying to remove something dirty.
At that moment, Lyndon saw Barkley leave the sanctuary, and Herbert went upstairs, leaving only Cecilia in the room.
"Once we get inside, Cecilia will definitely talk to me about this. I'll pretend to refuse first, then act like I'm reluctantly agreeing, and then find an opportunity to send a message to Alastor. That way, the deal will be done!"
As Lyndon thought about it, a cunning smile crept onto his face.
He was about to go in when he suddenly realized that Cecilia must not see the sword in his hand.
"If she sees it, she'll definitely ask all sorts of questions, so I'll just find a place to hide it and come back for it tomorrow morning."
With that in mind, Lyndon found a secluded spot and hid the sword there.
To his surprise, the bone sword returned to its original state the moment it left his hand!
Even more seriously! The severed arm, which had been restored to its original state, was rotting at an extremely rapid rate!
"not good!"
Lyndon quickly picked up the severed arm again, and it transformed back into a crossbow bone sword, though its luster had dimmed slightly.
"So it seems these conjured weapons can't be released from the hand; they'll revert to their original form once released. Are they maintained by spiritual energy?"
Lyndon carefully examined the bone sword and only felt relieved after confirming that it was undamaged.
However, another problem arose.
How am I supposed to carry such a big sword inside?
"How about we climb the wall?"
Lyndon looked up at the walls of the sanctuary, and after confirming that his room window was not closed, he bit the hilt of his sword and climbed back to his room.
After climbing to his window, Lyndon could only squeeze in awkwardly, sideways, because he had a sword in his mouth.
As a result, Lyndon accidentally bumped into the desk next to him, and the books on the desk immediately fell to the ground with a clatter.
Lyndon held the sword in one hand and reached for the book with the other.
"Damn it, damn it, damn it!"
After Lyndon picked up the books that had fallen to the ground, he looked up and saw someone turning his doorknob.
