Steam Old Days: The Extraordinary Begins with a Corpse Collector
Chapter 65 Hangover, Where Did the Fishman Come From?
When the first rays of sunlight fall on the canal in the early morning, the originally dark green water surface immediately becomes sparkling.
The cargo ship sailed smoothly on the canal.
Giselle and Wesley wake up in their respective cabins and then meet on the deck.
Their stomachs were growling loudly.
"Dad, have you seen Mr. Lynn?"
Giselle still referred to Lyndon as Lynn.
Wesley shook his head: "I checked the other rooms, there's no one in them. Maybe they're in the cockpit."
The father and daughter then walked together toward the cargo ship's bridge.
Tom had been sailing all night and was now resting with his eyes closed in the wheelhouse.
Hearing the knocking on the door outside, Tom reluctantly stood up. He first stood there, stretched out a big yawn, and then rubbed his sleepy eyes.
Tom opened the cockpit door and stared blankly at the Burtons outside.
His voice had a heavy nasal tone: "Gentlemen, is there something you need?"
"Excuse me, have you seen Mr. Lynn?" Giselle asked.
"Mr. Lyndon? I don't know either. I've been steering the boat the whole time." Tom looked out through the glass. Sunlight shone on the boat, casting many shadows. "I haven't seen the boss either. He said yesterday he would steer the boat for me."
Tom couldn't take it anymore. He yawned, smacked his lips, and said, "You can look for them on the ship. You're sure to find them. Did they all jump ship together?"
Seeing that they couldn't get anything out of Tom.
Burton and his daughter had no choice but to search for Lyndon and Alastor on their own.
After searching for a while, the two finally spotted them on the deck at the bow of the ship.
The two men reeked of alcohol, still holding glasses in their hands, with an empty bottle of whiskey lying beside them.
"Mr. Lynn, Mr. Lynn..."
Giselle crouched down and shook Lyndon's body.
"Well……"
In his sleep, Lyndon frowned, made a muffled murmur in his throat, and his eyelids opened heavily a crack.
The glaring light forced him to quickly close his eyes again.
The pain of a hangover was like a small hammer, constantly pounding on his head.
It wasn't very strong, but it was enough to make someone uncomfortable for a while.
It took Lyndon a while to open his eyes again.
The first thing that caught his eye was Gisele's gaunt face.
"Giselle...where am I?"
With Giselle's help, Lyndon struggled to sit up on the deck, only to find his voice terribly hoarse.
He feels like his mind is completely blank right now.
All I remember is drinking with Alastor last night.
Thinking of Alastor, Lyndon twisted his head, searching for Alastor's whereabouts.
He saw Alastor lying next to him, fast asleep like a dead pig.
Lyndon nudged Alastor's shoulder.
"Hey! Alastor, wake up, it's time to get up."
But when Lyndon called out to him, Alastor only responded vaguely a few times, then turned over and fell asleep again.
Lyndon was quite helpless, after all, Alastor had finished most of the bottle of wine last night by himself.
Thinking of this, Lyndon forcefully turned Alastor over, then grabbed him by the collar, slapped him twice hard, and yelled into his ear.
"Alastor, wake up!"
But Alastor remained unmoved.
"Never mind, let him sleep a little longer."
Linden released his grip and stood up helplessly.
He rubbed his temples, trying to relieve the hangover symptoms.
"Ah, if I could have a big bowl of thin soup with some vinegar right now, I don't know how wonderful that would be."
Lyndon couldn't help but miss the ramen shop across the street from his previous life.
For no other reason than that their beef ramen comes with eight slices of beef in the same portion!
Lyndon rubbed his head again, and asked Gisele in a daze, "Do you guys have breakfast?"
Giselle shook her head: "Not yet."
"Let's go see if there's anything good to eat," Linden said with a forced smile.
So Giselle and Wesley, one on each side, helped Lyndon off the bow deck.
But just then, the river surface suddenly began to churn.
Then a crackling sound came from the bottom of the boat.
It sounded like someone was tapping on the bottom of a boat.
"My God! Look!"
Wesley was the first to point at the river and shout.
Thousands of herring leaped out of the water as if boiling.
The scales formed a dazzling silver net in the morning light.
After leaping out of the water, it splashed back into the water with a series of crackling sounds.
Then it leaped out of the water and crashed back in.
Back and forth.
The school of fish swam forward in a rush.
The three were stunned by the sight and stood there silently watching the swarm of fish.
"That's spectacular!"
Giselle couldn't help but sigh.
Even Lyndon was impressed by this stunning scene.
The three of them forgot about going to eat and stood at the bow of the boat watching the surging fish tide.
But somewhere unbeknownst to them, a claw covered in blue scales clung to the side of the boat.
A wet head peeked out from beside the side of the boat.
Its egg-sized eyes scanned the deck before finally settling on Alastor, who was still sleeping on the ground.
The creature hissed, its tone tinged with a hint of smugness.
Because of the fish churning in the river, the sounds made by other creatures were drowned out.
The creature climbed onto the deck, then slowed its pace and gradually approached Alastor.
"What a pity, Alastor, why won't you wake up?"
Lyndon shook his head and looked back with a sigh.
As Lyndon turned around, he made eye contact with the creature.
It was an extremely ugly monster.
The monster was only about 1.2 to 1.3 meters long, with slender limbs and a membrane between its fingers.
It has a bulky body and a thick fish tail trailing behind it.
The monster had no skin, only a body covered in sticky, fish-like scales.
Its head is not large, but its eyes are enormous.
There is also a pair of gill-like organs on both sides of the neck.
The monster, caught by Lyndon, crouched down, clutching Alastor's clothes with its teeth.
It was about to drag Alastor away.
"Damn it!" Linden immediately realized what was happening and rushed toward the monster.
Upon being discovered, the monster had no choice but to release its grip on Alastor and turn to run towards the ship's side.
But Lyndon was quick and agile; in one swift step, he rushed behind the monster and grabbed its tail.
"come over!"
Lyndon pulled the monster back with a forceful pull of his hands.
Giselle and Wesley heard the noise and turned around to see Lyndon clinging tightly to a monster that looked like a large fish.
They exclaimed in surprise and were about to rush forward to help.
"Don't come any closer!"
Lyndon dismissed the two men who came to help.
"This is a mutant, I can handle it!"
When the monster saw that its tail was being pulled, it twisted its body, trying to turn around and bite Lyndon back.
Lyndon reacted quickly, dodging the monster's bites time and time again with his agile movements.
While dodging, his hand was accidentally cut by the monster's tail fin.
Fresh blood flowed out.
Lyndon cursed under his breath, "Beast."
[The Spear of Frenzy]!
With a thought, he conjured a short spear in his palm.
puff!
Lyndon pierced the monster's head with his spear.
He grabbed the monster's tail with one hand and used the spear to lift it up with the other, then slammed it hard onto the deck.
The monster thrashed around on the deck a few times and then fell silent.
Fearing the monster was feigning death, Lyndon went forward and fired a few more spears.
It was at this moment that Alastor slowly opened his eyes.
"Mmm... I was sleeping so soundly..."
Alastor sat up and scratched his face.
"Ouch! Why does my face hurt so much?!"
Alastor frowned, noticing that his shoulder was wet and smelled fishy.
"Lydon, what are you doing with that spear?"
Alastor stared at the bloodstains on Lyndon's body and followed his gaze.
A monster's corpse lay not far from him.
"This is... a fish-man?"
