Chapter 62: Reunion with Coulson
With Coulson's endorsement, Crossbones could no longer stop Sherlock, and couldn't even talk to him. He could only wave his hand and watch helplessly as this person on Hydra's key list slipped away from him.
After thinking about it, Crossbones could only take out his phone, send a message, and then resume his boring surveillance mission.
Meanwhile, Sherlock, unaware that Crossbones had already informed Hydra of his arrival, drove his pickup truck directly into the so-called core area, which was the temporary camp erected with scaffolding.
When Sherlock stopped the car and got out of the driver's seat, Coulson was already waiting for Sherlock at the camp entrance not far away with two other people.
When Sherlock closed the car door and brought Doro to Coulson, it was obvious that the three people standing opposite Sherlock looked at Doro with a change in their gaze.
Coulson was only surprised for a moment before his expression returned to its original smile, while the man carrying the bow and arrow looked at Doro with eyes full of curiosity.
The only one standing to Coulson's right, the bald man with glasses, showed a hint of surprise in his eyes when he saw Doro, followed by a hidden greed.
Sherlock was not fooled by the change in the emotions of the three people opposite him, but he did not show anything. He simply told Doro in his arms not to stray too far from him before facing Coulson with a smile on his face.
"Sherlock, welcome. Let me introduce you. This man with glasses is Agent Sitwell, and this man carrying a bow and arrow is Clint Barton, also known by his codename in S.H.I.E.L.D. as Hawkeye."
Clint, Sitwell, this is Sherlock, Sherlock Flamel, an alchemist.
As Coulson introduced them, Sherlock shook hands with both the Hydra agent and the Avenger as a greeting.
Although they shook hands, it was clear that Sherlock's attitude towards the two was completely different. When facing Sitwell, Sherlock simply shook hands and gave a brief greeting before calling it a day.
However, when facing Hawkeye, Sherlock's lips curled into a smile. As he grasped Hawkeye's hand, Sherlock said to him in a somewhat mischievous tone.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Hawkeye."
There was nothing wrong with the content, and even the way it was addressed was unchanged, except that an "er" suffix was added after Hawkeye's codename.
But inexplicably, after Sherlock uttered the nickname "Hawkeye," the S.H.I.E.L.D. side inexplicably felt a sense of amusement. Hawkeye was clearly a very sharp code name, but after adding the erhua (erhua) suffix, it had a strangely funny feel to it.
This made Clint raise an eyebrow slightly, but he didn't let go of Sherlock's hand. Instead, he said to Sherlock with a serious expression.
"It's also a pleasure to see you again, Sherlock. And my name is Hawkeye, not Hawkeye Jr."
"Okay, Hawkeye, I'm right, your name is indeed Hawkeye. Is there a problem, Hawkeye? Also, have we met before?"
Sherlock knew perfectly well where the problem lay, but he stubbornly refused to change it, instead relentlessly provoking Hawkeye.
After Sherlock's barrage of Hawkeye shots, Clint completely gave up on correcting Sherlock. He forced a smile through his twitching lips and retreated silently behind Coulson.
After all, if Clint were to talk to Sherlock a few more times, he probably would feel his blood pressure rising.
Coulson, who had been watching their conversation closely, noticed Hawkeye struggling to handle Sherlock's antics. He quickly stepped in with a smile to act as peacemaker, pointing at Hawkeye hiding behind him and saying...
"Never mind, Sherlock, you can just call him Clint."
After saying that, Coulson leaned close to Sherlock and whispered something to him.
"Don't bully Agent Clint too much; he's a good and honest man!"
Although it was said to be whispered, the fact that the group was actually standing together meant that Coulson's words to Sherlock were practically the same as loudly plotting something.
Hawkeye, standing behind Coulson, rolled his eyes so hard they almost popped out of their sockets, but he didn't say much, only comforting himself that he wouldn't stoop to the level of a brat.
Sherlock neither refused nor agreed to Coulson's instructions, but simply shrugged helplessly while holding Doro.
Seeing Sherlock's shameless behavior, Coulson had no choice but to skip the topic and try to get things back on track.
"Regardless, Sherlock, I'm still very grateful that you came to help S.H.I.E.L.D..."
Before Coulson could finish speaking, Sherlock raised his hand to interrupt him, his previously nonchalant face now serious as he spoke to Coulson.
"Stop! Coulson! Get this straight! My deal with SHIELD ended when we found Tony. We've kept to ourselves, understand? I'm only here personally to help a friend!"
Upon hearing Sherlock's words, both Coulson and the two standing behind him were taken aback for a moment. However, Coulson quickly recovered, his smile widening as he continued speaking to Sherlock.
"Of course, Sherlock! Thank you for your help!"
Seeing that Coulson understood what he meant, Sherlock smiled and pointed to Doro, whom he was holding in his arms, and said to Coulson.
"This is Doro. You can think of her as my daughter. Her favorite thing is oranges! I hope you have enough oranges here, otherwise this little one can really give you a headache if she starts acting up."
As Sherlock introduced the doro, Coulson finally looked at the doro in Sherlock's arms and said to Sherlock.
"Of course, believe me, New Mexico oranges have a unique flavor."
As soon as Coulson finished speaking, Sherlock no longer hesitated. He ignored Sitwell and Clint standing behind Coulson, put his arm around Coulson's shoulder, and pulled Coulson toward the interior of the camp.
"Come on, Coulson, take me to see that hammer that fell from the sky. Oh, and by the way, have I seen that Hawkeye before? Why don't I remember seeing him?"
"You should have met him before. Agent Clint knows you. When you went to S.H.I.E.L.D. to rescue Tony in the Middle East, it was Agent Clint who led the operation."
Faced with Sherlock's question, Coulson explained as he walked with Sherlock into the camp. Sitwell and Clint, who remained behind, exchanged a glance before reluctantly following the two men back towards the camp.
