Chapter 35 Obadiah's Luxurious Life

Looking at the document in his hand, Sherlock was completely dumbfounded. According to the report, Obadiah was undoubtedly an innocent person.

Sherlock even began to wonder if he had gone astray in his investigation and if the murderer of his parents was actually someone else.

However, Sherlock quickly dismissed the idea. Putting the plot aside, there is an unchanging rule in murder cases like this: the one who benefits the most is often the mastermind.

Without a doubt, whether it's the death of his own parents or Tony's kidnapping, in essence, no one other than Obadiah is the biggest beneficiary.

Based on this logic, Obadiah is the most suspicious person no matter what.

However, Sherlock also had some good news. Judging from the information in his hand, it was clear that Tony's trust in Obadiah was based solely on the lack of evidence that Obadiah had done anything wrong—a purely rational judgment.

Otherwise, there wouldn't be the investigation report about Obadiah that follows the plane crash report.

Good news is always accompanied by bad news, and the worst news is that Sherlock's investigation has once again come to nothing. Not only has he failed to find any evidence that Obadiah killed his parents, but he hasn't even found a single clue.

Left with no other option, Sherlock decided to try a different approach, planning to impersonate a thief and head to Obadiah's house to see if he could find any clues.

As for why Sherlock didn't just steal information from Obadiah's office computer like in the movies, why not?

It's very simple, there's no chance!

Obadiah was extremely cautious. Putting aside whether Sherlock had any chance to get close to Obadiah's office when he was undercover, the alarm device that the old man installed on his office door was enough to give Sherlock a hard time, not to mention that there was a secretary keeping watch outside his office.

Sherlock couldn't find a way to get close to Obadiah's office, and besides, Sherlock didn't believe that Obadiah would keep evidence of his parents' murder in his office.

It's important to know that Sherlock's investigation from beginning to end focused on Obadiah murdering his parents, not on Obadiah smuggling arms!

After contacting Pepper Potts and obtaining Obadiah's itinerary from her, Sherlock drove towards Obadiah's house. On the way, he casually bought a complete set of bodysuits and a hood. After parking the car, Sherlock casually crafted an "invisibility cloak" that only lasted for one hour.

After changing into a bodysuit inside the car, Sherlock arrived at the front door of Obadiah's "home".

If you were asked where the most expensive house in all of Los Angeles is, most people would probably say the legendary Beverly Hills.

But the truth is that the truly wealthy don't bother with places like Beverly Hills where land is incredibly expensive; the truly wealthy in Los Angeles always live in the suburbs.

For example, Obadiah's "home" that is now appearing in front of Sherlock.

Or to put it more bluntly, this place should no longer be called a 'home' but rather a manor!

The sheer size of the lawn, large enough to play golf on, and the towering trees planted within the walls to protect privacy, all unmistakably tell everyone that the owner of this place is either extremely wealthy or powerful.

Even more astonishingly, even during the day, even though Obadiah is not currently in the manor, there are still countless security guards and servants in the manor, all diligently performing their duties.

Putting everything else aside, this scene alone is far more luxurious than Tony's mere "cramped" living in a mansion on a seaside cliff.

"Damn old Deng! Damn rich guy!"

After cursing under his breath in a corner, Sherlock activated his invisibility cloak. With the alert set on his watch, Sherlock officially "infiltrated" Obadiah's "manor".

When Sherlock actually stepped into the manor, he realized that his understanding of the wealthy was far too simplistic.

Who would have thought that even the lawn underfoot, which looks like it's suitable for playing golf, is different from the ordinary lawns in the park?

The lawn beneath Sherlock's feet felt soft and yielding, like stepping on an incredibly plush, thick carpet; almost every step was a pleasure.

Moreover, as he stepped onto the lawn, the unique fragrance of the grass instantly filled Sherlock's nose.

Sherlock swears that this is the first time in his two lives that he has ever "smelled" such wonderful grass!

If these things only surprised Sherlock, then when Sherlock stepped onto the path in the lawn, he was dumbfounded by the sight before him.

The reason is simple: this path is actually paved with pebbles.

Not the kind of pebbles in the broad sense, but the kind of pebbles in the narrow sense. If you still can't understand why this path shocked Sherlock so much, then you should know if those cobblestones under your feet were given a name.

Agate!

That's right, the path in this meadow is paved entirely with agate stones! Although a single agate stone may not be expensive, the sheer quantity of them makes Sherlock's teeth ache with envy.

Honestly, just the things displayed in this courtyard made Sherlock, a proper alchemist capable of mass-producing gold, feel a crushing sense of superiority on a cognitive level.

Not to mention the roads, fountains, and artificial landscapes in the yard.

Fortunately, Sherlock wasn't there to investigate whether Obadiah had embezzled Stark Industries' money; he was there to investigate whether Obadiah was the murderer of his parents.

Therefore, no matter how surprised she was by the expensive courtyard, Sherlock ultimately chose to sneak into the house.

Following the changing guards into the most magnificent house in the manor, Sherlock found Obadiah's core residential area with almost no effort, the process so smooth that he didn't even need to use alchemy.

As for why it's so simple, the reason is also very simple.

When you enter the house, you will see two groups of servants. One group is dressed normally, bending over and doing their work, their hands rough and thick. The other group is dressed in very short maid skirts, each with a curvaceous figure, beautiful face, and even their delicate, boneless hands are covered with pure white silk gloves.

Based on what I learned during my undercover work—that Obadiah is even more cunning than Tony—can you guess where Obadiah's living area is inside this house?

No need to think too much, just head towards the area where the maids in miniskirts are gathered!

The more maids like this appear, the closer we are to Obadiah's lair!

Following the maids, Sherlock found Obadiah's luxurious bedroom with almost no effort, and also got a glimpse of the old man's unsavory fetishes.

After casually making some modifications using alchemy to ensure that the fire department couldn't open those messy "toys" without having to call in the fire department, Sherlock lost interest in the so-called bedroom and turned to walk outside.

After all, even if Obadiah were stupid, he wouldn't hide evidence of his crimes in this bedroom, which is meant for entertainment.
