Diamond Ace's Passionate Swing
Chapter 17 Accident
In the top of the sixth inning, the score was 8-3, with Seido High School leading by five points.
It was Tsukuba High School's turn to attack, and their hitters were eager to close the score gap.
"See that!" Coach Tsukuba stood in the dugout, his eyes fixed on Furuya on the pitcher's mound, a sly glint in his eyes. "The opposing pitcher is exhausted, and he's throwing bad pitches."
He turned to the fighters beside him and said, "It was the right thing to not make a move. He'll lose his temper soon enough."
Coach Tsukuba certainly had a keen eye; he saw through Furuya's predicament.
Although Furuya's ball speed was fast enough to put immense pressure on the batter, his ball control was noticeably weakening, and his stamina was waning. This was undoubtedly a golden opportunity for Tsukuba High School.
The Tsukuba batters had complete faith in their coach's instructions. They stood in the batter's box, gripping their bats tightly, but did not throw them easily.
"Bad ball!"
"Bad ball!"
"Bad ball!"
"Bad ball!"
"Four bad apples get a free pass!"
The umpire's whistles rang out repeatedly as Furuya threw a series of bad pitches, ultimately forcing him to walk. He had now walked two batters, leaving the field with no outs and runners on first and second.
Sweat beaded on Furuya's forehead, and his eyes revealed anxiety and frustration.
He knew in his heart that there was something wrong with his condition, but he was also unwilling to let his opponent take advantage of his weakness.
At that moment, the pressure was like a mountain, weighing heavily on his heart. He was annoyed by his lack of stamina, and even more annoyed that he had failed to control the ball's trajectory at the crucial moment.
Miyuki crouched behind home plate, looking at Furuya, his heart filled with worry.
He knew that Furuya had been holding back a lot of energy, wanting to prove himself in this match, but the situation was getting out of control.
"Furuya, this is a lesson you have to learn," Miyuki silently murmured to himself.
The Tsukuba batters, on the other hand, wore mocking expressions.
"With this level of skill, you think you can compete with us?"
"Looks like Seido's pitchers aren't all that great after all." Their words were like sharp arrows, piercing Furuya's heart.
Furuya was furious. Seeing that he had given two batters a run by throwing a bad pitch, he gritted his teeth and threw the ball with all his might.
"Good shot!" With this shot, Furuya finally regained some of his form.
Miyuki caught the ball steadily and was about to throw it to Furuya when he suddenly felt that the ball in his hand was wet. He looked down and saw that the baseball was stained with blood.
Miyuki was startled and quickly checked his hand. After confirming that it wasn't his own blood, he hurriedly called for a timeout and ran to the pitcher's mound.
Furuya looked at Miyuki with a puzzled expression, not understanding what had happened. "I can still pitch!" he said stubbornly, even though he already had a vague idea of why.
Miyuki stared sternly at Furuya and demanded, "Is your fingernail split?"
"Don't you take good care of your nails after training?"
Furuya then came to his senses and looked at his hands, discovering that his nails were cracked and bleeding because of the ball's high speed and his lack of proper care.
Miyuki felt a sense of helplessness. He knew that Furuya usually only focused on pitching and knew nothing about the maintenance that pitchers should do.
"A player like that can't be the ace," Miyuki sighed to himself.
"Now cover your hand, it's time to leave." Miyuki said angrily to Furuya, while also worrying that Tsukuba High School would find out about Furuya's injury, lest they take the opportunity to launch a more violent attack.
"Yes!" Furuya felt frustrated, but he could only obey Miyuki's arrangement and slowly walked down the pitcher's mound.
Coach Kataoka saw Furuya walk off the pitcher's mound in the dugout. Although he didn't know the specific reason, based on his years of experience, he decisively made the instruction to switch pitchers.
Furuya returned to the rest area and was about to ask the team doctor to help bandage his hand.
Just then, Coach Kataoka walked over. "Furuya, your nail is cracked, isn't it!" Coach Kataoka's tone was very certain.
"He can't pitch for a month after the game," Coach Kataoka said sternly. "Chris, after the game, you teach him how to be a pitcher. Hands are a pitcher's second life."
Coach Kataoka looked grim, knowing full well that Furuya's mistake could have a significant impact on the team.
The atmosphere in the rest area instantly became tense. The teammates all understood that the situation of the game had become more complicated because of Furuya's injury.
Top of the sixth inning.
"Seido High School has proposed to replace the player."
"Furuya-kun has been replaced by Hayashi-kun, and Hayashi-kun has been replaced by Sakata-kun."
"Shirasu-kun will take the position."
In the top of the sixth inning, with the score at 8-3, Tsukuba High School attacked, with runners on first and second. Lin Xiao entered the game.
"Lin Xiao, Lin Xiao!"
"Lin Xiao is on stage!"
"A tyrant has arrived."
"Show them what you're made of!"
The cheers from the fans were deafening. In just one match, Lin Xiao won over the fans who supported Seido with his strength.
Although Lin Xiao didn't know the specific reason why Furuya was taken out of the game, he didn't have time to think about it too much, after all, Furuya had left him with a tricky situation. He stood on the pitcher's mound, his eyes firm, not paying any attention to the runners on base, because he was convinced that he would not let them return to home plate.
Coach Tsukuba was somewhat surprised to see Lin Xiao enter the game. In his view, Lin Xiao, like Furuya, was a newcomer who might only have speed, but also had problems with ball control and stamina.
In the last game, Lin Xiao came on in the eighth inning. Although he struck out six players in a row, he only used the fastball and did not show any other pitches, which made everyone think that he was just a simple fastball pitcher.
Miyuki looked at Lin Xiao, thinking to himself, "I'd better keep this kid in check."
"Come on!" Lin Xiao took a deep breath, preparing to throw the ball. Just then, he caught a glimpse of the runner on second base making a move, seemingly trying to steal a base.
Lin Xiao's lips curled into a slight smile. He swiftly released a high-speed ball, which flew like lightning into Kominato Ryosuke's glove. Kominato Ryosuke reacted quickly, immediately tapping the ball against the runner to complete the kill.
The muscle memory developed through long-term training makes Lin Xiao's pitching sound like that of a seasoned general who has fought many battles.
"Out!"
"Wuhu is out of the game."
"Lin Xiao, you're amazing!"
The crowd erupted in cheers. Someone was actually unafraid of Lin Xiao's fast pitch and still trying to steal a base.
Coach Tsukuba was completely taken aback when the ball arrived before the runners. This initial probing made Coach Tsukuba realize that Lin Xiao was a formidable opponent. After resolving the stolen base crisis, Lin Xiao focused on dealing with the batters.
Miyuki knew Lin Xiao's strength well, and he thought to himself, "Let's try a simple and direct approach with a high-speed fastball first, and not show him any changing balls for now."
call out! ! !
Lin Xiao put in another effort and threw the ball.
"boom!"
The batter only saw the white ball fly in like a shooting star, and before he could react, the ball had already entered Miyuki's glove steadily.
"This ball is faster than Furuya's, how am I supposed to hit it!" the batter thought to himself.
"Snapped!"
"nice shot!"
"nice shot!"
"nice shot!"
"Strikeout!!!"
The referee's voice rang out, and the batter was still in shock even after leaving the court. He never imagined that a high school student could throw a ball faster than a pitching machine.
