F1: In Ferrari, Schumacher at the start.

Chapter 75 Public Relations Master

Britain enjoyed a few truly sunny days in July, a rare treat.

On the road leading to Silverstone Circuit, a futuristic-looking all-electric supercar is driving smoothly.

This is a new car that the sponsor just delivered to the UK yesterday, which directly replaced the nanny van and became Lin Feng's commuter vehicle this weekend.

Zhou Kai gripped the steering wheel, his face beaming with enjoyment.

"Lin Feng, this car is amazing! It's even quieter than my Mercedes," Zhou Kai exclaimed as he drove. "The brand said all the paperwork for legally driving this car in the UK is complete. You'll definitely turn heads driving it into the paddock this weekend."

"What's so cool about that? I don't even have a driver's license."

Lin Feng, wearing a Williams racing team t-shirt, was slumped in the passenger seat, staring at his phone screen and rolling his eyes.

After celebrating his birthday, Gu Ailing flew to Canada a couple of days ago to participate in summer training. This morning, she even posted a video mocking him for being secretly filmed at a steakhouse.

Now, he's dominating Twitter and European sports news websites.

"Brother Zhou, look at the headlines of these British tabloids, I'm practically kneeling before their imagination."

Lin Feng opened the sports section of The Sun and read aloud: "Shocking! Lin Feng and Horner secretly meet at a high-end London restaurant; Red Bull heir faces a power struggle!"

"And this Daily Mail article: 'Betrayal of Toto? Lin Feng dines with Red Bull executives; Mercedes' wishful thinking may be in vain!'"

Lin Feng sighed and facepalmed. "I just went to get some steak! And Horner came to share a table by himself! These reporters are making it sound like I've already signed a contract to sell myself to James behind his back. Are these media outlets trying to portray me as a heartless scumbag?"

Zhou Kai grinned from ear to ear: "Who cares what they write? This is called generating buzz! Didn't you see the sponsors' additional budget requests sent to my email this morning? Just give them a casual reply for the media day this weekend, let them guess."

Lin Feng sighed helplessly.

Since he had nothing better to do, he opened WeChat to see if there was a quiet place.

He scrolled down and a group chat that was set to Do Not Disturb and usually buried at the bottom caught his attention.

[Junior High School Grade 3 (2) Class Group] (Beijing No. 3 Middle School)

Judging by their ages, most of his junior high school classmates are now in their early twenties and are mostly studying at universities in China.

Lin Feng clicked into the group chat, which was bustling with activity.

"Guys, I'm going to fail my major course at the finals. Does anyone have a quick and easy way to pass?"

"Stop studying, log in! It's the new season of Honor of Kings today!"

"Has anyone found a summer internship? I've sent out over a dozen resumes and they've all disappeared into thin air. It's so hard to get into big companies these days."

Looking at these chat logs brimming with youthful energy, Lin Feng suddenly found it amusing.

He spends his days outsmarting a bunch of multi-million dollar foreigners, constantly making global sports headlines, while his peers are still racking their brains over a final exam.

Just then, Zhang Qiang, the class monitor in the group, suddenly sent a message tagging everyone.

"@All members, brothers and sisters! We're all going to be seniors soon, and we won't have much time to get together anymore. This August during summer vacation, I'm organizing a class reunion, a barbecue at our usual spot! Anyone who can come, please sign up!"

A long string of "sign up" and "+1" comments immediately followed.

Less than two minutes later, Zhang Qiang's private message was sent to Lin Feng's WeChat.

"Lin Feng, it's been years since I've seen you! Which university are you studying at now? Are you coming to the reunion in August?"

Lin Feng looked at the message, a mischievous smile playing on his lips, and typed a reply with lightning speed.

"I didn't go to university; I started working right after graduating from high school. I happen to have a holiday in August to go back to northern Beijing, and I'll have time to eat barbecue."

Zhang Qiang on the other end was stunned for a moment, probably processing the news, before quickly replying.

"Oh, working part-time is good, it helps you get out of the workforce early. What do you do for a living now? I was watching the sports channel the other day and they said there's a race car driver named Lin Feng who looks a lot like you did in junior high. It gave me quite a shock, hahaha!"

Lin Feng replied without batting an eye: "I don't drive race cars. I mainly work as a driver now, driving for people, doing long-distance trips and stuff."

Zhang Qiang suddenly realized and sent a thumbs-up emoji: "Got it! You're a ride-hailing driver, right! That's so liberating! I heard driving for Didi is pretty lucrative these days. Keep up the good work, and when you come back in August, let's have a good drink, it's on me!"

"Okay, see you in August."

Lin Feng locked his phone screen, leaned back in his seat, and chuckled.

If the class monitor knew that the race car driver Lin Feng that his father was talking about was actually himself, I wonder if he would have a heart attack on the spot.

As we chatted, the car drove into the paddock gates of Silverstone Circuit.

Thursday is traditionally media day. As the host of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone is not only one of the birthplaces of motorsport, but also the home track for almost half of the F1 teams.

There were more than twice as many reporters in the hunting grounds today as usual.

As soon as Lin Feng stepped into the backstage of the press conference hall, he was led directly to the front of the stage by the staff.

The organizers really know how to create a buzz; at today's press conference, Lin Feng was seated in the middle.

To his left is Lando Norris, the British driver who is based on his home turf, and to his right is Max Verstappen, with whom he had just dined in London.

As soon as the three of them sat down, the red lights of dozens of cameras in the audience lit up instantly, and microphones were pointed at them like a forest.

"Lin! Could you elaborate on your dinner with Christian Horner in London the day before yesterday? Has Red Bull offered you a formal contract?"

A British journalist from Sky Sports fired the first shot, getting straight to the point.

"Max, would you welcome Lin Feng as your teammate next year?" another Dutch reporter followed up with the question.

"Lin, Toto Wolff's hints to you in Canada are still fresh in my mind. Now you've contacted Red Bull. Are you trying to use these two top teams to inflate prices for each other?"

The questions were increasingly pointed, and a careless answer could not only offend two major clubs but also embarrass the current owner, Williams Racing.

Norris sat to the side, looking like he was enjoying the spectacle.

Verstappen, meanwhile, stood by with a poker face, drinking water, showing absolutely no intention of helping to extricate himself from the predicament.

Chloe, the Williams team's public relations manager, sitting in the back seat, was sweating profusely and frantically gesturing to Lin Feng, signaling him to answer using the official press release he had memorized.

Lin Feng remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he had already quickly opened the system panel.

"Damn it, these reporters are really planning to tear me apart! System, open your inventory!"

He quickly found the white item that had been gathering dust at the bottom of the draw in Miami—[Horner's PR manual (fragment)].

"use!"

[Ding! Horner's PR manual has been activated.]

[Skill Effect: For the next thirty minutes, the host will automatically master the official rhetoric of British aristocracy, the Tai Chi-style diversionary tactics, and the superb persuasive skills of a car fleet manager who can forcibly elevate any negative issue.]

The moment the skill was activated, Lin Feng felt as if an old British gentleman had been forcibly shoved into his mind.

He cleared his throat, and his expression instantly became incredibly sincere, even carrying a smile full of tolerance.

"First of all, thank you very much for your concern, friends from the media." Lin Feng's calm and clear broadcasting voice surprised Norris, who was standing next to him.

"Regarding last night's dinner, I want to emphasize that the steak in London was indeed very delicious." Lin Feng smiled and looked around at the reporters. "Christian is a respected team principal. In the F1 family, we met by chance off the track and had dinner together. It was just a very ordinary exchange based on our shared love for motorsport."

He quickly changed the subject, and also gave a compliment to Red Bull.

"Red Bull Racing has achieved amazing success in the past few years, thanks to their excellent management and incredible drivers like Max. Any driver would be extremely honored to be noticed by such a championship team."

The reporters in the audience were a little confused.

This answer is flawless, full of nice words, but upon closer listening, it's all bullshit, revealing no substantial content whatsoever.

"But Lin!" a German journalist stood up. "Does your statement mean you've given up on Mercedes?"

Lin Feng's smile became even gentler, his demeanor perfectly controlled.

"Mercedes is a team with a great history and deep heritage, and Toto's leadership is evident in the paddock. I have always held them in the highest esteem. However..."

Lin Feng abruptly changed the subject and unleashed his ultimate move.

"On my jersey now is the Williams team logo, a great team that has achieved countless glories and is now experiencing a revival. James Wols is building an amazing long-term project here. My current achievements are entirely thanks to the mechanics and engineers who work day and night at our team's Grove headquarters."

Lin Feng looked at the camera with a determined gaze that could have earned him a Party membership.

"My focus is solely on Silverstone this weekend. I'm here to bring back the best possible results for the home team, Williams. As for next year, let the future be the future."

His answer flowed smoothly and flawlessly.

He praised Red Bull, lauded Mercedes, and finally expressed immense loyalty to his current employer, Williams.

The reporters exchanged bewildered glances, glancing at each other's notebooks. This textbook-perfect public relations statement left them with absolutely no opportunity to take it out of context and create conflict.

Verstappen, sitting to Lin Feng's right, stared at Lin Feng as if he'd seen a ghost. He muttered under his breath, "Damn it, the way you were talking just now was exactly the same as when Christian was fooling the media in the paddock."

Norris on the left was even more exaggerated. He moved his chair aside and looked at Lin Feng warily: "Lin, did you sign up for some pre-match rhetoric training course?"

Lin Feng ignored his two friends, maintaining his flawless official smile, and turned to look at the back row.

Chloe, the public relations manager for the Williams team, was standing in the last row.

This PR lady, who usually went to great lengths to clean up the mess left by Lin Feng's outrageous remarks, was now almost in tears with excitement. She raised both hands above her head, frantically giving Lin Feng two thumbs-up, silently chanting, "Well done! Absolutely perfect!"

At the subsequent press conference, no matter how the reporters tried to probe, Lin Feng handled everything with ease using his Tai Chi style, and even recited a few slogans from the sponsors.

Half an hour later, the press conference concluded successfully.

As soon as Lin Feng stepped off the stage and out of the reporters' sight, the skill effect in his mind faded away on time.

He let out a long sigh of relief, feeling that speaking in such an air was more tiring than running fifty laps in a qualifying race.

"Lin! You were a PR genius today!" Chloe rushed over, excitedly patting him on the shoulder. "Your speech about Williams' revival almost brought James to tears!"

"Chloe, don't get agitated." Lin Feng tugged at his collar, putting on a smug look. "It's mainly because they were putting too much pressure on me, so I just came up with a quick idea."
