F1: In Ferrari, Schumacher at the start.
Chapter 32 Speed Race for Victory
[Black screen]
[Sound effect: A deep, rumbling engine roar approaches from afar, accompanied by a gradually increasing heartbeat.]
[The screen lights up]
At the Melbourne Grand Prix, Lin Feng leaped out of the No. 28 Williams car, jumped onto the roll cage, and spread his arms wide.
Immediately afterwards, the scene flashed rapidly: white smoke billowing from Magnussen's car crash, the comical scene of Sainz hiding behind Leclerc in the cruise car, and Lin Feng's profile as he sneered at dozens of microphones in the media area.
[Voiceover (James Walls, Williams Racing Team Principal)]:
"F1 is like a giant shark tank. If you bleed even a single drop in the water, they'll tear you to pieces. But Lin..."
[Camera Switch]
Grove, Williams headquarters office.
Walls sat on the sofa and shrugged at the camera.
"...He bit back directly."
[The opening music begins, and the episode title appears: The Madman from the East]
[Subtitle: Two weeks later, Suzuka Circuit, Japan]
In April, the cherry blossoms covering the mountains of Suzuka are blown by the wind and scattered on the asphalt roads of the enclosure.
The stands were packed with Japanese racing fans wearing exaggerated headdresses and waving various flags.
The scene then shifts to Netflix's private interview room.
It was pitch black all around, except for a single glaring overhead light shining on the chair in the middle. Lin Feng, wearing Williams' dark blue team jersey, sat there with an air of nonchalance.
He was reaching up and tugging at his collar, looking somewhat agitated.
"Am I looking at the camera, or at you?" Lin Feng pointed to the camera and then to the producer behind the lens.
"Just look at me, treat this like a normal chat." The producer's voice came through. "Lin, after Melbourne, you're now the center of attention in the entire paddock. How does it feel?"
Lin Feng sighed and leaned back in his chair: "To be honest, it feels terrible."
[Flash cut: Following shot of the enclosure]
Lin Feng, wearing sunglasses, walked through the Suzuka paddock, followed closely by three Netflix photographers holding microphones and Steadicams, forming a semi-circle like bodyguards. Other team staff passing by couldn't help but glance at him.
Lin Feng stopped and turned to look at the camera, a helpless expression on his face: "Bro, I need to go to the bathroom. Are you guys planning to film me washing my hands or unzipping my jacket first?"
The photographer didn't speak, but shook the camera up and down, indicating that he refused to back up.
[Back to the interview room]
Lin Feng spread his hands at the producer: "See that? I was having breakfast at the hotel yesterday, and I'd just taken a bite of my fried egg when a furry microphone reached out next to me. I even suspect they might have planted a camera under my bed too. Don't you understand what an invasion of privacy is?"
The producer laughed off-screen: "This is the price of fame, Lin. You've embarrassed Ferrari."
"It was Sainz who made way for me, how can you blame me?" Lin Feng curled his lip.
[Camera switch: Sauber team lounge]
Zhou Guanyu was adjusting his racing suit in front of the mirror when he heard the Netflix director's question, and he laughed.
"Lin Feng? He's always been like this, the kind of person who gets angry easily. That incident in Melbourne really pissed him off. You guys are following him around every day now, he's probably getting annoyed with you. But to be honest, the hunting grounds need someone like him, otherwise it's really boring."
[Camera switch: Hiroki Tsunoda being interviewed at home stadium]
The short Japanese driver stroked his chin: "Lin is fast, but this is Suzuka, not Melbourne. Hopefully, he won't talk too much here and will focus more on the steering wheel."
[The scene transitions to a catchy piece of upbeat Japanese electronic music]
Suzuka Grand Prix, Thursday, Media Day.
A small commotion suddenly arose outside Williams's private room. A large number of local Japanese media outlets, armed with cameras and microphones, surrounded the garage entrance.
[Handheld camera follows into the P-room]
Lin Feng and Albon were standing next to the race car discussing the chassis height when they heard the noise and turned around.
Surrounded by a group of security personnel, a woman wearing a casual suit jacket, with shoulder-length short hair and a very friendly smile walked in.
She is Yui Aragaki, a national-level actress in Japan.
As a special VIP guest of this Grand Prix and a spokesperson for a multinational sponsor, her task today is to tour the team.
"Oh my god, it's Gakki." Alben whispered in Lin Feng's ear, then quickly stood up straight and straightened his slightly wrinkled team uniform.
Williams' public relations manager quickly went up to them and brought Yui Aragaki to Lin Feng and Alben.
"Lin, Alben, nice to meet you." Yui Aragaki bowed slightly, her voice as clear as on TV, with her signature healing smile on her face.
"Hello." Alben waved somewhat awkwardly.
Netflix immediately zoomed in, focusing on Lin Feng.
The production team was so eager to capture this madman's awkwardness when faced with beautiful women.
However, Lin Feng was not as uneasy as Netflix had expected.
He naturally extended his hand and shook hands lightly with Yui Aragaki, then said in fluent English, "Welcome to Williams. To be honest, I'm a little surprised."
"What's so surprising?" Yui Aragaki asked through the translator, her eyes filled with curiosity.
"I thought you'd come with lawyer Komekado to ask us for the naming rights fee," Lin Feng joked seriously.
The translator paused for a moment, then translated the "Legal High" reference to Yui Aragaki. She first widened her eyes slightly, then immediately covered her mouth and burst into laughter.
"Have you seen that drama?" Yui Aragaki smiled, her eyes crinkling, and the atmosphere instantly relaxed.
"Of course, I grew up watching your shows. But that sounds a bit old-fashioned." Lin Feng shrugged and pointed to the race car behind him. "Want to try it out?"
The two chatted animatedly in the garage, and Lin Feng even taught her how to press the radio button on the steering wheel.
Alben, unable to get a word in edgewise, could only helplessly shrug at the Netflix camera.
Lin Feng in a private interview room
Lin Feng took a sip of water: "Yui Aragaki is a very nice and professional person, but could Netflix please stop focusing on close-ups of my face? I was just fulfilling my sponsorship obligations, don't edit me into looking like a playboy hitting on women. Can we cut this part (whispering)?"
A large "NO" was displayed on the screen.
The music suddenly picks up speed, turning into deep drumbeats.
[Voiceover (Sky Sports commentator)]: "Friday's practice session is over. Suzuka Circuit, known as the crown jewel of F1, is a nightmare for all drivers, especially for rookies, as its 130R corner and Degner corner are insurmountable mountains."
The color tone of the image has become cold and somber.
Lin Feng, who was just chatting and laughing with a female celebrity, is now sitting in a corner of the garage.
He was wearing noise-canceling headphones and resting with his eyes closed.
There was no smile, no relaxation.
[Transition to: Main Competition Day]
With the five red lights extinguished, the Suzuka Grand Prix officially began.
Netflix did not use a global broadcast perspective, but instead made extensive use of cross-cutting between Lin Feng's helmet view and the team's radio.
The battle for the first bend was extremely fierce.
Lin Feng started in tenth place.
The camera shook violently, and the roar of the engine was deafening.
"Lin, watch the tire temperature. We're going to be driving a long way on these medium tires." Paul's voice crackled through the radio.
"receive."
In a high-speed S-curve, McLaren driver Piastri ran onto the turf outside the kerb, causing a brief, slight slip at the rear of his car.
It was that brief pause of a fraction of a second.
Lin Feng didn't brake at all. Taking advantage of Piastri's mistake, he forced his car out of the way on the narrow track. The two cars were almost side by side with their rims touching at the limit in the corner at 260 kilometers per hour.
"Whoa!" Piastri exclaimed over the radio. "Is he crazy? Overtaking here?!"
The next second, the blue Williams race car forcefully cut into the inside line, domineeringly seizing the driving trajectory.
[Solo Interview Room: Piastri]
The McLaren rookie shook his head with a wry smile: "Driving side-by-side on the Suzuka S-curve is something only a madman would do. If I didn't let him pass, we would both be on the wall. I think he was betting that I wouldn't dare to crash into him."
The race is entering its middle stage, featuring the classic 130R corner.
This is the most famous high-speed left turn on the F1 calendar, requiring drivers to drive through it at speeds exceeding 300 km/h with full throttle.
The camera cuts to Williams's control console.
Walls stared at the screen, arms crossed, without saying a word.
In the scene, Lin Feng is relentlessly chasing Mercedes driver Russell ahead, with the two cars less than 0.5 seconds apart.
"George, he's behind you," came the warning from the Mercedes pit room.
"I know, he went too fast on the straightaway." Russell was breathing heavily.
As he approached the apex of the 130R corner, Lin Feng did not choose to follow the car in front. Instead, he used the extreme chassis balance of the race car to make a slight adjustment to the brake ratio before entering the corner.
The race car's rear end swayed slightly, leaving a visible afterimage as it sped past Russell's gearbox.
Finally, the checkered flag was waved.
"P6, Lin. Well done, you brought back valuable points."
"Received. The race car felt good today, but it still struggled a bit in low-speed corners." Lin Feng's voice was very calm.
[Camera Switch]
The Suzuka paddock at sunset. Mechanics are packing equipment.
Lin Feng, carrying a backpack and wearing a gray hoodie, strode towards the parking lot.
Netflix's cameraman followed him, panting.
"Lin! Wait a minute!" The director held up the microphone.
Lin Feng stopped and rolled his eyes helplessly: "What now? Bro, the race's over, I didn't crash, I didn't swear, you guys should have enough material for this episode, right?"
"One last question," the director asked. "Fifth in Melbourne, sixth in Suzuka, that proves your talent isn't just a flash in the pan. Next stop, in two weeks..."
The director paused deliberately: "The Chinese Grand Prix, your home race. This is F1's return to China after five years, and it's your first time racing in your hometown as a full-time driver. Are you feeling the pressure?"
Lin Feng looked at the camera, and the helplessness and frustration he had felt earlier vanished instantly.
He curled his lips into a smug and confident smile.
Lin Feng didn't answer. He just turned around, waved to the camera with his back to it, and walked into the sunset without looking back.
See you in Shanghai.
A tremendous heartbeat suddenly rang out, and the screen instantly went black.
