Those who reincarnate must die.

Chapter 104 Detective from Bureau 9

Zhang Lang returned to the alley where the crime scene was located, but instead of going straight in, he entered the building next to the alley and walked all the way to the rooftop, looking down at the three officers from the Ninth Precinct. (Google search reading)

The distance was a bit far, but he had already focused intently, and the three people seemed to be right in front of him, their voices sounding as if they were right next to his ear...

"This is the third case in the last two days..."

The youngest officer, with green eyes, was flipping through his notebook.

"Yesterday it was a witch, killed by a powerful electric shock; this morning it was a mountain monster, with no external injuries, but its heart was shattered into eight pieces... and now it's a vampire killed by an ice pick! A serial murder case specifically targeting people with special abilities, truly rare!"

"These special individuals hidden in the crowd are so difficult for even us to spot without getting close..." The tall team leader lit a cigarette. "Their ability to snipe so accurately, always targeting weaknesses, suggests they might have access to the department's files?"

"Captain, you suspect it was done by one of our own?" The young man shook his head. "I don't think that's possible. Everyone in the department has undergone rigorous testing... And what's the motive? Is it just simple hatred towards those with special abilities?"

"The killer probably doesn't have that much information!" the third person spoke up. He was a short, stout man with a small mustache.

"Those with special abilities are generally reclusive and live alone. If they know the address, they'd rather commit the crime at home, where the body might remain undiscovered for days. But if they kill someone on the street, even in a relatively secluded place, the body will be discovered quickly, increasing their risk of being caught..."

"That makes sense!" The tall leader nodded. "So, it's possible that it was someone with special abilities who could identify other special individuals, spotted them on the street, followed them, and then killed them!"

"It's also possible that these three victims share some common traits besides being superhuman!" The young man said, resting his chin on his hand. "I'll investigate their backgrounds in more detail later; I'm more concerned about their motives!"

The captain nodded, about to say something, when the short, chubby man with the small mustache suddenly waved his hand: "Someone's watching!" As he spoke, he looked up and his eyes met Zhang Lang's!

"We've been discovered!"

Upon making eye contact, Zhang Lang immediately shrank back and turned to run. But after only two steps, the chubby boy appeared before him, holding a revolver and pointing it at his head.

Instant teleportation ability? Zhang Lang frowned and wisely raised his hands.

To deal with four teams of reincarnators, his identity as a native police officer in this world is also important; he doesn't want to get into trouble and become a wanted criminal.

During the standoff, the tall leader and the young man with green eyes also climbed up the building. Zhang Lang noticed that they didn't take the stairs, but climbed directly up the outer wall. Although it was only three stories high, their skills were extraordinary.

"Police?" The team leader frowned, glancing at the badge number on Zhang Lang's chest. "From the First Precinct? Didn't we tell you to go back first? Captain Aldrich doesn't trust us?"

"No..." Zhang Lang replied, "I came back on my own. I want to know more information..."

"Interested in special abilities?" The leader's vertical pupils appeared. "As a police officer, and one of Aldrich's men, you should know that this is not a field for ordinary people!"

"I'm not an ordinary person!" Zhang Lang suddenly said.

"What?!" The three were startled. Zhang Lang looked at the short, chubby man with the small mustache: "If you don't believe me, you can try shooting!"

"We're still on the street!" The team leader raised his hand to stop them, but suddenly threw a throwing knife!

Zhang Lang did not dodge, letting the flying knife pierce his throat before being deflected by the hard skin and falling to the ground.

"A defensive ability?" the young man exclaimed in surprise. "If you could block the leader's throwing knife, then ordinary bullets wouldn't hurt you either? With such amazing abilities, how come you're just an ordinary policeman?"

"I'm not registered with Bureau Nine, so I'm basically an unregistered person..." Zhang Lang said, half-jokingly, "But I've always maintained contact with the special individuals circle in Fog City, and I've heard about the cases these past two days, the murders targeting special individuals..."

"Were there acquaintances among the dead? Want revenge?" the team leader retorted.

"No!" Zhang Lang shook his head. "But I suspect there's more than one assassin, and they have the ability to identify those with special abilities. My concealment is useless against them. There aren't many special abilities in Fog City anyway; sooner or later, it'll be my turn!"

"I'm scared!"

The team leader nodded: "A reasonable explanation... so you're seeking protection?"

"I want to catch the criminal!" Zhang Lang looked at the three men. "I'm tougher, I can be used as bait!"

"Well then, why don't you come back to the Ninth Bureau with us and report for duty?" The team leader looked into Zhang Lang's eyes.

"Okay!" Zhang Lang nodded. "But I also hope you can face reality. The Ninth Bureau may not have more manpower than assassins. My strength is suited for combat and will be a great asset!"

The team leader understood his implication and nodded: "Don't worry, as long as I'm sure you're okay!"

Zhang Lang followed the three men downstairs, loaded the body into the car, and drove together to the legendary "Ninth Precinct".

The car finally stopped and drove into an inconspicuous courtyard. A crooked nameplate hung on the gate, and there was only an old, detached three-story building in the courtyard... From the outside, it was impossible to tell that this place had any connection with the police station.

"To the outside world, the Ninth Precinct is a non-existent organization..."

The team leader got out of the car and, while directing the two men to unload the body, explained to Zhang Lang:

"All individuals with special abilities living in Fog City are subject to the control of Bureau Nine, but inevitably there are those like you who slip through the net! We're glad you're willing to help, but first, I need to make sure you're not lying!"

Zhang Lang nodded: "If I were the murderer, or an accomplice, then I'd be in danger!"

"I like your straightforwardness!" the team leader laughed. "Then let's go in!"

Zhang Lang followed the team leader into the Ninth Bureau. Compared to its dilapidated appearance outside, the inside was much cleaner and tidier.

There was a reception desk in the lobby on the first floor. A beautiful girl with light blonde hair sat there, always smiling, but it seemed that not many people came and went, making it seem a bit deserted.

The short, chubby man with a small mustache and the young man with green eyes carried the body to the right corridor, while the team leader led Zhang Lang up the stairs to the second floor.

"Not everyone in the Ninth Precinct has special abilities!"

As they walked uphill, the tour leader explained:

"Quite a few ordinary people who have stumbled upon this secret work here. But everyone who joins the Ninth Precinct undergoes rigorous training, and our weaponry far surpasses that of a typical police station, so don't even think about causing trouble here. Trust me, there's definitely something here that can cut through your thick skin!"

Zhang Lang nodded, and the team leader led him to a door decorated with silver bird-shaped patterns, and gently knocked on it.
