Did the villainous professor survive today?
Chapter 12 Isabel
An Eastern name... and this death threat level is a bit scary...
Kroenke's heart skipped a beat, and he subconsciously swallowed.
He now roughly understands how this death threat is determined. The first type is the current threat, similar to "V" who is trying to assassinate him, Alaire, or Enya who may expose his disguise.
Another possibility is the threat posed by characters closely related to the previous character's death, as the plot unfolds naturally, such as the fiancée Sistine.
He had never heard of this Lola in the storyline, which meant that this death threat was the current threat.
In other words, she is more dangerous than the "V" who came to assassinate her.
Are these the princess's guards?
"Professor Krenk, there's no need to be nervous. His Highness simply wants to hear your academic insights, in a private capacity, not for a challenging academic debate."
Lora, sitting in the driver's seat, remained expressionless, but her gaze was fixed on Krenk in the back seat through the rearview mirror, like a black wolf eyeing a sheep.
"Yes, I know."
Kroenke felt a little intimidated by the stare.
He tried to analyze what aspects constituted this death threat, but could not find an answer.
Seemingly sensing the tense atmosphere in the car, Lola brought up another topic:
"Professor Krenk, may I ask if you need to avoid other scholars?"
"Avoiding other people?"
"Well, considering that your research has not yet been made public, in order to avoid the risk of academic plagiarism, I can apply to His Highness on your behalf that the participants in this academic lecture be limited to His Highness, you, and me," Lora said.
"No need, let them listen in."
Kroenke looked at the line of death threat coefficients and thought to himself that he felt safer with more people around.
"No need to avoid it?"
"Yes, there's no need to avoid it. Let them listen in."
Krenk answered truthfully that he had handled the most of the underlying code of the common origin of magic, so he didn't need to worry about other scholars asking difficult questions that would leave him unable to answer.
As for the specific data, a simple "it's confidential" is enough to dismiss them all.
Lora, in the driver's seat, moved her lips a few times, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she nodded:
"it is good."
After that, there was no further exchange between the two sides. The limousine drove along the wide road until it arrived in front of a magnificent manor.
Lola parked the car at the entrance to the front yard, got out, and then respectfully opened the car door for Krenkla:
"Professor Krenk, please come with me."
Thank you.
Kroenke nodded, picked up his cane, and got out of the car.
Upon closer inspection, the marble lion head in the pool spews out white waves of water, which meanders along the landscaped waterway for hundreds of meters.
The manor is designed in the Tudor style, with extremely luxurious interior decorations and walls covered with exquisitely patterned wallpaper.
Although the layers and patterns may seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, you'll find that they are actually carefully designed and not tiring to the eyes after looking at them for a while.
To be able to develop such a large estate in the prime location of the Upper City, it truly lives up to its reputation as the residence of a princess; it's several times larger than my home.
Krenk followed behind Lora, thinking to himself.
The Holy Kingdom is a papal state established on a remote island in the west, but its influence encompasses the entire northern continent and a small part of the eastern continent.
Within the Holy Kingdom's sphere of influence, all national capitals have the word "Holy" preceding their names, including the city-state of Saint Auster.
Even now, with the Holy Kingdom's influence waning, upon learning that the Pope's biological daughter was coming to study in St. Auster, the council made a decision overnight to demolish the most valuable commercial area under construction in the upper city and rebuild it as a residence for the Third Princess.
This demonstrates the high status of their position.
"We're here," Lola said, leading Krenk to a huge white oak door.
"His Highness is waiting for you behind the door."
"Okay, I understand."
Kroenke nodded, pushed open the door, and went straight in.
Surprisingly, the room behind the door was not a reception room, but a study.
The stairs and platforms next to the bookshelves are of varying heights, and they are filled with finely bound, complete sets, and rubbings of ancient books. Everywhere you look, there are densely packed books with red and green covers.
Rather than calling it a study, this room is more like a collection of bookshelves pieced together.
Beside the window, there was a small round wooden table with two chairs next to it.
A woman sat quietly in a chair by the window.
Her long black hair was braided and tied into a very high bun on top of her head, revealing her slender, snow-white neck. She wore a beige court dress with vibrant raised patterns woven into the brocade. Her ochre-red eyes gazed at Krenk standing in the doorway.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Professor Klenk."
"Greetings, Your Highness."
Kroenke knelt on his right knee, his left leg bent at a 90-degree angle, his right hand lightly touching his left chest, his head slightly lowered, giving Isabel a standard salute of allegiance.
"Get up, Professor Krenk. This is a private meeting; there's no need to be so formal."
Isabel wore a standard smile, but her eyes were surprisingly empty and lifeless.
"My respect for Your Highness comes from the heart, not from tedious formalities." Krenk was well-versed in the art of pleasing superiors.
"You flatter me, Professor Krenk."
Isabel's tone remained calm as she extended her hand and began to introduce the elderly men standing to the side.
"These are my mentors in the Holy Kingdom. If the professor doesn't mind, please allow them to audit the classes as well."
"Your Highness's invitation is already the biggest surprise of my day."
As Krenk spoke, he glanced at the few people listening. Their temples were already somewhat gray, their eye sockets were deep, and they wore thick round-framed glasses, but their eyes behind the lenses were still sharp.
Upon seeing Krenk, their brows furrowed slightly before quickly smoothing out.
Without even needing to guess, they knew that what they were thinking was that even if the person in front of them was the chief professor, he was still too young and dressed so well that he didn't seem like someone who did academic work.
Kroenke ignored this minor detail, turned his gaze away from the meticulous old men, stood up, went to the small round table where they were talking, and sat down opposite Isabel.
"Professor, you must be tired from your journey. Would you like a cup of tea?"
"It would be my great honor."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lora, the attendant standing to the side, took the initiative to serve Krenk a cup of steaming black tea.
Krenk glanced at the white bone china teacup, reached out and pinched the stem, took a small sip, put down the teacup, and showed an expression of appreciation.
"Professor Krenk, you're a very busy person, so I won't waste your time," Isabel said, getting straight to the point.
"I'm very interested in your theory of the common origin of magic that you presented at the opening ceremony today. Could you please elaborate on the details?"
"What aspect would Your Highness like to know?"
"I'd like to hear Professor Krenk explain it to me..." Isabel paused, then said.
"Chaos Magic".
