Chapter 103 The Great Fire Before the New Year
Chapter 103 The Great Fire Ten Years Ago
"Is that vampire in your prison still alive?"
Kroenke got straight to the point.
He came here to find something to eat for Alice.
Anser pretended to think: "It should still be alive. I didn't expect it to be so resilient. I've been poisoned for several weeks and it still hasn't died. But it's not convenient to use too large a dose, as that would easily arouse suspicion."
"Could you talk to the warden? I need this vampire."
"This—" Anser looked troubled. "This subordinate has no authority. It may be necessary for Mr. V to communicate with the warden personally."
Seeing Kroenke glance at him, Anser instantly became terrified again. "Mr. V, really! It was an order personally given by the Trafford family. If anything happens to this vampire, everyone in charge will be dismissed on the spot. My subordinates need the deputy warden's status to carry out Miss L's orders, so they only dare to poison him slowly."
Anvil Prison falls under the jurisdiction of the law enforcement agency, and is therefore also under the control of the Trafford family.
"I understand. Take me to see the warden."
"Please wait a moment, I'll make the arrangements."
Anser got up and walked outside.
Soon, Anser returned and told Krenk that the warden was waiting for him.
Kroenke arrived at the warden's office and opened the door.
Sitting directly opposite was a middle-aged man with a slightly stubble beard. He had deep-set eyes, yellowish eyeballs, and bloodshot eyes. His hair was also completely white, and he didn't look to be in good health.
Nicholas Trafford.
What is the relationship between this surname—this warden—and the Trafford family's daughter who died more than a decade ago?
Kroenke inwardly grumbled.
Warden Nicholas gave Kroenke a standard smile, his wrinkles crinkling into deep furrows: "Professor Kroenke, hello."
"Here's the thing, Warden Nicholas. At Principal Abraham's request, I've been investigating clues about vampires. I heard that the vampire you captured has always been half-dead, so I wanted to take advantage of its last breath to see if I could find out anything from it."
Nicholas did not reply, but stared straight at Kroenke.
The middle-aged man, who had previously looked somewhat dejected, now had eyes as sharp as a knife; the phrase "dragon soaring and tiger glaring" would be an understatement to describe them.
Kroenke felt uneasy under Nicholas's gaze. For some reason, he felt that if Nicholas stared at him any longer, he might even be able to burn a hole through him.
After a long silence, Nicholas nodded: "Okay, I agree. You can take it."
"Um?"
Kroenke was somewhat bewildered by the other party's immediate agreement. "Warden Nicholas, I remember the Trafford family demanded that the vampire be kept under control, didn't they?"
"It's alright, Professor Krenk, I'll handle things with the family."
"Are you sure?" Krenk wasn't entirely sure. "If I take it, I can't guarantee that the vampire will be returned."
Instead of answering the question directly, Nicholas asked, "Professor Krenk, I remember you have a sister, right?"
"Yes, what's wrong?"
"fine."
Nicholas waved his hand. "Professor Krenk, I'll arrange for someone to take the vampire to your designated location."
The prison van carrying the vampires arrived at the back door of Enya's laboratory.
"That's enough for now."
Kroenke pointed to the ground.
Several law enforcement officers used tools to remove the iron cage covered with a black cloth from the prison van.
During the transport, there was almost no movement under the pitch-black curtain.
After the law enforcement officer drove away, Krenk lifted the curtain and could only see a gaunt figure huddled in the center of the iron cage, without making a sound.
It's probably dead.
"Teacher, this is—"
Enya looked at the vampire in the cage with some surprise.
"The vampire created by the organization," Kroenke said, "is now in charge of destroying."
"Oh." Enya nodded, then stood still.
"What are you standing there for? Are you planning to just watch?"
"oh oh!"
Enya snapped out of her daze and immediately walked away.
Once Krenk was the only one left in the empty space, he summoned Alice.
"Go, Alice."
Krenk pointed to the vampire in the cage.
Alice looked up at Krenk, her eyes filled with disbelief as she faced the half-dead vampire.
"Eat."
Krenk gestured for Alice to look at the iron cage.
Alice glanced at the vampire in the iron cage, then at Krenk.
"Don't tell me you're a picky eater."
Kroenke's rant.
Alice pouted, her expression reluctant, but she still followed Krenk's instructions, went to the iron cage, and crawled inside.
Whoosh!
Alice swallowed the vampire whole, like sucking on a jelly.
then.
As if she had swallowed a hot potato, Alice clutched her stomach, rolling around on the ground, her face contorted in pain.
At the same time, Krenk saw that Alice's experience bar had increased again.
Alice's experience bar is now almost a quarter full.
Is this food poisoning?
Krenk remembered that Anser had been poisoning that vampire for a long time.
"Barrett".
Kroenke came up with a special idea.
He exchanged his own blood with the blood Alice had just ingested, and then had Barrett purify the toxins inside.
As he spoke, Kroenke began the blood transfusion.
The next second, a churning sensation surged from his stomach straight to his head. Krenk instinctively knelt on the ground, clutching his chest, his breathing rapid.
"Master, don't worry! Barrett is trying!"
Barrett does everything she can to cure the toxins in Krenk's body.
Ten seconds later, the nausea subsided slightly, and Krenk, panting heavily, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
This is too toxic!
Krenk looked at Alice rolling on the ground with lingering fear. If it weren't for his strong willpower, he would have fainted.
"never mind."
Kroenke abandoned the idea of continuing the blood transfusion.
Let's just say it's a bit of a hardship for Alice.
So what if there are more hardships on the road to growth?
Kronk and Barrett squatted down next to Alice, who was rolling around, to cheer her on.
About ten minutes later.
Alice finally digested the toxins in her body.
She slowly got up, came to Krenk, stretched out her hands, and grasped two fingers of Krenk's right hand.
Then, she opened her mouth and bit down hard on Krenk's hand, leaving a shallow tooth mark on the web of his hand, as if venting her emotions.
"Don't worry, I definitely won't let you eat this kind of junk food next time."
Kroenke tried to soothe Alice's emotions, but Alice just puffed out her cheeks and stared at Kroenke with resentful eyes.
If she weren't so bad at speaking, she might have cursed Krenk's ancestors for eighteen generations.
Krenk suppressed Alice's rage and returned to the laboratory.
"Enya, regarding the fire in Stone Pillar Street that I asked you to investigate, have you reached any conclusions?"
"Yes." Enya nodded.
"How so?"
Enya stated her conclusion directly: "Based on my investigation, I have reason to suspect that the Russell family was behind the fire ten years ago."
