Transcending Worlds: I Have an Invincible Shelter
Chapter 60: Ledger
Audi walked into the Bofite Building with a smug look on his face.
Before the lobby security guards could rush out from their posts, more than a dozen black-clad thugs, guns at the ready, surged in.
Before the security guards could even touch their walkie-talkies, they were forced to the ground with guns pressed against the back of their heads, and obediently lay down.
The receptionist was so frightened that she forgot to scream. Her long legs went weak, and she knelt behind the bar, not daring to breathe.
Audi walked in at a leisurely pace, leaning on his cane with his left hand and his right hand in his pocket, followed by two figures, one in white and one in purple.
Alpha stood with his hands in his pockets, Wumeng expressionless. The three of them walked on the marble floor, the sound of their leather shoes echoing, more unsettling than the gunfire outside.
Ding--
Ten elevators opened their doors simultaneously.
Emerging from inside were not strangers, but a whole group of Mokro Mafia security personnel, all wearing bulletproof vests and carrying short-barreled submachine guns, who had just stepped half a step out of the elevator.
blah blah——
The black-clad thugs gave them no chance to stand firm, firing more than a dozen guns simultaneously, their crossfire completely blocking the elevator entrance.
Shell casings clattered and fell to the ground, and smoke filled the lobby. The security personnel were shot backward and fell back into the elevator, blood flowing out of the elevator door.
"Enemy firepower is too intense! Requesting backup! Requesting—"
Just as two sentences came through the walkie-talkie, Audi stepped on it, and the plastic casing shattered instantly.
He glanced down at the pool of blood at his feet, frowned slightly, and rubbed the soles of his shoes on the clean floor tiles as if disgusted by the dirt.
"Walk."
Three figures stepped onto the crimson floor and strode into the elevator.
The upstairs neighbors reacted faster than expected.
Less than thirty seconds after the alarm sounded at the Puffett Building, people began pouring out of the stairwells on each floor. Mocro Mafia armed men occupied the stairwells and corridor corners, and some even fired directly into the elevator shaft. The bullets pierced the outer wall of the elevator car and made several holes in the heads of the three people.
Just after the elevator passed the eighth floor, the ground suddenly gave way beneath my feet.
The steel cable was cut.
The elevator car plummeted rapidly, and a feeling of weightlessness overwhelmed us.
Audi swayed, gripping the handrail tightly with one hand, while Alfa's back slammed against the car wall. Both of them looked at Wumeng at the same time.
"Lord Wu Meng!"
Before he could finish speaking...
Wu Meng raised his right arm and punched through the side wall of the elevator, his five fingers piercing directly into the outer concrete structure.
The metal rubbed violently against the cement, producing a piercing creaking sound. Sparks flew continuously from between the fingers, and the car's descent slowed down visibly before coming to a stop.
Audi glanced down at the floor indicator: fifth floor.
Wu Meng withdrew her arm, her fingertips covered in grayish-white concrete powder, her expression as calm as if she had just done something insignificant.
He kicked the elevator door, sending the two stainless steel panels flying. They bounced twice against the corridor wall before landing.
Three figures stepped onto the fifth-floor corridor one after the other.
The Mokro armed men on the sixth and seventh floors were pressing down, their footsteps coming from the stairwell above, hurried and chaotic.
They watched the surveillance footage and could see the black-clad rioters sweeping the fourth floor floor by floor, but the footage from inside the elevator cut off the moment it plummeted.
No one knew that Audi and his two companions had already reached the fifth floor. The black-clad thugs below served as the perfect bait.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A barrage of American equipment cleared the way, and each floor was bombarded with intense firepower, completely tearing a hole in the Mokro Mafia's defenses.
The fight below was so lively that everyone's attention was drawn to it, and no one noticed the three people walking quietly in the fifth-floor corridor.
The top floor of the building.
Inside the luxurious penthouse, Cook reclined on the sofa, a tablet in his hand, as the monitor screens went black one after another.
"Useless! A bunch of useless trash!"
He kicked over a wine glass on the coffee table, spilling the deep red liquid all over the floor.
Security teams one and two were deployed simultaneously. Twenty minutes ago, he felt completely secure, but in less than ten minutes, the area below the fourth floor was completely lost.
"hiss--"
Cook frowned, letting out an impatient hiss in his rage, and glanced down at the ground.
A blonde woman knelt between his legs, wearing a snow-white deep-V silk slip dress, and was slowly rubbing her full breasts against him.
Sensing Cook's gaze, the blonde woman raised her head, her blue eyes watery, her lips slightly pouting, looking ingratiating.
Cook grabbed her hair and threw her aside. The blonde woman stumbled and fell onto the carpet with a muffled groan.
"Wipe it clean."
The blonde woman dared not utter a single complaint and quickly crawled over to tidy him up.
Cook tightened his belt buckle, sat up straight, and stared intently at the large monitor screen in front of him.
In the scene, a man in a red suit with a cane walks in the middle of the corridor at a leisurely pace, while black-clad thugs file out behind him, each carrying a weapon that looks increasingly menacing.
Cook zoomed in on the image.
He recognized those guns.
He knew this shipment all too well; it was the same batch of weapons that Ibuprofen had sold him for fifteen million US dollars.
"Damn it! You ibuprofen!"
Cook slammed his fist on the sofa armrest, his teeth grinding together.
The sixth floor was breached, and the seventh floor was breached.
The surveillance footage went black one after another; the Mokro men simply couldn't withstand this level of firepower suppression.
Some people retreated to the stairwell, while others smashed open windows and jumped from the seventh or eighth floor. Even if they didn't die from the fall, they would be crippled.
Eighth floor, ninth floor, tenth floor—the black screen appeared faster and faster. Cook felt a chill run down his spine, and sweat trickled down his temples.
He suddenly stood up and grabbed the blonde woman who was still kneeling on the ground.
"Alice, the rooftop! Let's go!"
There was a helicopter on the rooftop; it was his last resort.
In a flurry of activity, Cook didn't even have time to put on his coat before grabbing Alice and rushing out of the room, heading straight for the rooftop helipad via the fire escape.
Pushing open the fire door to the rooftop, the night wind rushed in, and above me was Dubai's deep blue night sky. The helicopter was parked just twenty meters away.
Cook pulled out his phone and dialed a number, his fingers trembling.
"Bu Na Lei, the rooftop, now, immediately."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone. "Boss, I'm not on duty at the Mocro Tower today, you didn't tell me—"
"You're not fucking here?!"
Cook's voice cracked, and he nearly dropped his phone. The helicopter was right in front of him, pilotless; it was no different from a pile of scrap metal.
Alice's delicate face was deathly pale, and the gunshots from downstairs were getting closer.
It wasn't that muffled sound from afar, but a clear, distinct sound, just a few floors below.
"Honey, what should we do?"
"How should I know!"
Cook yelled, then realized that getting angry at the woman wouldn't solve anything, and paced back and forth in frustration.
He walked to the edge of the rooftop wall and looked down. The streets of Blue Water Island were in complete chaos, with people running out everywhere.
The faint sound of sirens could be heard in the distance, indicating that the Dubai military must have already received the news.
Whether they can hold out until the military arrives is a question.
On the other side, on the fifth floor.
The three people in Audi split into two groups.
The black-clad thugs launched a frontal assault on the staircase, drawing enemy fire; the three of them then took the fire escape, making their way unimpeded to the 28th floor.
Starting from the 29th floor, the resistance increases sharply.
Two heavy machine guns were mounted at the end of the corridor, their muzzles pointed at the stairwell. The last elite of the Mokro Mafia were huddled on these two floors.
Bullets ripped the plaster off the walls, exposing the steel bars, and flames flew one after another, completely blocking the corridor.
The Audi and Alfa huddled behind the corner, with gravel constantly falling from above.
"With this firepower, charging in head-on is suicide." Alpha patted the dust off his shoulder.
Audi remained silent, and both of their gazes fell on Wumeng at the same time.
Wu Meng has already rushed out!
The bullet hit him, sending sparks flying.
The heavy machine gun bullets could tear through the outer shell of a light armored vehicle, striking Wumeng's chest, shoulder, and abdomen with a series of crisp metallic clanging sounds. Then the bullets deformed, fell to the ground, and rolled a few times with a clattering sound.
Wu Meng looked down at her purple suit jacket, which had several holes punched in it, revealing her intact skin underneath.
He frowned. The suit was new.
The heavy machine gunner also witnessed this scene. The two Mokro gunners exchanged a glance, their eyes wide with disbelief.
They've been in this line of work for over a decade; they've seen it all!
A man stood in front of a heavy machine gun and took half a burst of bullets without falling; it was unbelievable.
Wu Meng moved.
His figure vanished from his spot and reappeared in front of the heavy machine gun on the left the next second.
The shooter was still in the trigger-pulling position, his finger hadn't had time to release it.
Wu Meng pressed down on his head with one hand, and with a forceful push, slammed his head against the bulletproof glass wall behind him.
A burly man weighing over 200 pounds had his head come into close contact with bulletproof glass.
The glass didn't break—it's bulletproof glass, so it's of excellent quality.
But a human skull isn't as hard as glass. When the sound of bones cracking is heard, the glass surface only shows a radial crack and a large patch of red and white material.
The gunner of the second heavy machine gun reacted quickly, turning the muzzle to aim at Wumeng and unleashing a burst of fire.
All the bullets hit Wumeng in the back, completely destroying his purple suit.
Wu Meng turned around and walked away.
The gunner dropped the heavy machine gun and turned to run. He took three steps when a hand grabbed him by the back of his collar, lifting him up and slamming the back of his head against the glass wall on the right side of the corridor.
This time the glass shattered, and the person got embedded in it.
The remaining Mokro militants in the corridor began firing wildly, some throwing grenades, others blasting at close range with shotguns.
The smoke filled the entire corridor, making it impossible to see anyone.
Ten seconds later, the gunfire stopped.
It wasn't that the people in Mokro stopped; it was that there was no one left to fire.
Seven or eight corpses were embedded in the glass walls on both sides of the corridor in various twisted positions.
Some had their heads facing outwards, some had their legs facing outwards, and one had only its upper body embedded in the wall, its lower body nowhere to be seen.
The glass was covered in spiderweb-like cracks, and blood flowed down the cracks, forming thin streams on the corridor floor.
Audi and Alfa emerged from around the corner.
Audi looked left and right, tapped his cane on the ground, and examined the "decorations" on the wall with great interest.
"Not bad, it has a lot of artistic flair."
Alpha didn't respond, but carefully avoided the bloodstains on the ground as he walked, afraid of getting his leather shoes dirty.
The black-clad thugs who followed were less particular; seeing the man still twitching and embedded in the wall, they swiftly and decisively finished him off.
Thirty floors.
Wu Meng kicked open the door at the end of the corridor. The thick security door flew through the door frame and smashed over a solid wood dining table.
The room was brightly lit, the air conditioning was on full blast, and the air was filled with the scent of perfume, mixed with a faint fragrance of heather.
There was no one on the sofa, no one in front of the monitor, and the bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room were all searched.
They are all empty.
Audi strolled in slowly, his gaze sweeping over the overturned wine glass on the coffee table, the deep red wine stains on the carpet, and a little bit of pale white turbidity.
He looked down and saw a Mokro armed man in the corner of the corridor who was still alive. Half of his body had been slammed into the wall by Wumeng, with only his head and an arm sticking out. Blood and foam were constantly coming out of his mouth.
Audi crouched down, resting his cane on his knees, and tilted his head to look at him.
"Where's Cook?"
At the same time, Alpha pulled the trigger, shoving the muzzle into the survivor's mouth, the metal clanging against teeth making a chilling sound.
Death is right there on the tip of your tongue.
The Mokro Mafia member broke down, tears streaming down his face, sobbing incoherently.
"Cook went to the rooftop... There's a helicopter on the rooftop... Please..."
Alfa didn't draw his gun; he turned his head to look at Audi.
Audi crouched down, patted the man's face, and said casually, "You mean Cook ran to the rooftop?"
"Yes...yes!"
"Depend on."
Audi stood up, tapped the ground with his cane, and sighed sincerely.
"You guys are really loyal. The boss is already getting a ride in a helicopter, and you're still risking your lives here. People outside would think you're all suicide squads."
The man's lips trembled; he seemed to want to say something, but ultimately remained silent.
Audi glanced down the corridor behind him, where his black-clad thugs were firing shots at each house, the gunfire rising and falling like a barrage of firecrackers.
He turned and gestured with his chin toward Wumeng. "Lord Wumeng, let's go to the rooftop."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and pointed above his head.
As for the person who had just replied, Alpha's gun fired once, the bullet passing cleanly through the back of his head from his mouth.
"Rather than letting him lie on the ground clutching his wound waiting to die, it's better to give him a quick death." Alpha holstered his gun, his expression as calm as if he had just crushed a mosquito.
On the 30th-floor rooftop, the night wind stung one's face.
As Cook listened to the gunfire and footsteps getting closer and closer below, his legs went weak and he collapsed onto the edge of the tarmac.
Not far away, Alice was curled up in a corner, her nightgown strap had slipped halfway down, revealing a large expanse of skin. She covered her mouth with her hands to suppress her sobs, her face streaked with tears, looking pitiful.
Cook gripped his pistol tightly; there was only one magazine left, and his hand was trembling violently.
The gunfire downstairs suddenly stopped. The silence was more terrifying than the gunfire.
Cook swallowed hard, staring intently at the only iron gate on the rooftop.
Then the iron gate didn't open, but the ground did!
With a muffled explosion, a two-meter square hole was blasted into the rooftop, sending debris flying and dust billowing.
Wu Meng's figure rose from the gap, holding an Audi in his left hand and an Alphard in his right, as easily as lifting two chicks.
The three landed on the rooftop. Wu Meng had just let go when Audi and Alfa stood firmly on their feet, straightening their clothes that had been ruffled by the wind.
Cook's reaction was not slow either; his survival instinct forced him to react as quickly as he could.
He raised the pistol, aimed it at Wumeng, and pulled the trigger, unable to stop. "Bang bang bang bang," the entire magazine was emptied.
The flames flickered in the night.
But Wu Meng's movement trajectory was not at all what a human should be able to do. His figure swayed a few times, and when the gunshots stopped, the three figures stood unharmed less than five steps away from him.
The magazine is empty.
The gun barrel made a dry "click-click" sound.
Cook's mental support collapsed, and he knelt down on the ground.
His knee slammed into the concrete, making a dull thud, but he didn't feel any pain.
"Audi!"
Cook's voice was hoarse as he looked up at the red-clad man leaning on a cane. "What grudge do we Mokro have against you? What grievance do we have? What gives you the right to—"
"On what grounds?"
Audi interrupted him, tapping the ground with his cane.
He looked down at Cook, the corners of his mouth curving upwards. The smile was neither cold nor warm; it was simply condescending.
"Mr. Cook, when you were all the rage in Dubai's underworld, what was Audi to you? Not even worthy of being called an ant."
Cook's lips turned white, and he was unable to speak.
"It's alright, I didn't come here tonight to catch up with you."
Audi took a step forward, resting his cane on Cook's knee, face to face with him, and said in a low voice, "From tonight onward, there can only be one voice in Dubai's underworld."
He paused, then straightened up.
"The sound of my Audi."
After saying that, Audi silently added half a sentence in his mind, "I was just relaying a message for the gentleman."
Cook's mind raced, and his survival instincts drove him to make a decision.
He suddenly turned around, pulled Alice, who was curled up behind him, and shoved her to Audi's feet.
"I'll give you everything! All my overseas accounts, I'll hand over the passwords!"
Cook's voice trembled, "Please spare my life."
Alice was pushed and stumbled, falling at Audi's feet.
The woman reacted extremely quickly. Instead of struggling and running away, she leaned against Audi's trouser leg and pressed her whole body against it.
She raised her face, her eyes, still wet with tears, filled with seven parts fear and three parts allure. Her tongue unconsciously licked her lower lip; that look would normally be enough to soften the heart of any man present.
Audi was indeed momentarily captivated. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and skin so white it seemed to glow—this kind of beauty was someone he wouldn't have even dared to glance at before.
But only for a moment; tonight is the time to do something big.
Audi's expression turned calm as he slowly raised his pistol, the dark muzzle pointing at Alice's forehead.
Alice's pupils contracted sharply, and she screamed as she scrambled to her feet and ran toward the edge of the rooftop. Her high heels clattered rapidly on the ground, and she didn't care whether she could outrun the bullets.
Audi didn't chase after him, and looked back at Cook.
Alpha patted off non-existent dust from his clothes and tilted his head to say something to Wumeng.
"Lord Wumeng, just throw him down. He wants to fly, so let him fly on his own."
These words were spoken so casually, as if they were discussing what to have for dinner. Cook heard every word clearly, his pupils widened, and he took off running.
He hadn't even chosen a direction; he was simply instinctively moving away from the three people. But his speed was child's play compared to Wumeng's.
Wu Meng moved slightly, just a moment, and Cook felt his feet leave the ground.
The world spun around.
The next second, he was thrown out, over the rooftop railing, and plunged into the void thirty stories high.
The wind howled in his ears, and the lights on the ground magnified rapidly in his vision. Cook didn't even have time to let out a complete scream.
boom--
A muffled thud came from downstairs, sounding particularly jarring in the night.
A series of gasps came from the onlookers on the street in the distance; some screamed, and some covered their children's eyes.
On the rooftop, Alice witnessed the entire process of Cook being thrown off. Her eyes rolled back, her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground, her skirt soaked, and she fainted.
"Let's go."
Audi withdrew his gaze, turned and walked towards the opening. "Let's search Cook's safe deposit box; maybe we'll find what we're looking for."
He took two steps, then suddenly stopped. He turned around, raised his gun, and aimed it at Alice, who was lying on the ground.
"Bang, bang, bang—" Eight shots were fired in quick succession, each hitting a vital spot.
Alpha raised an eyebrow. These eight shots weren't finishing blows; they were probes.
really--
The moment the gunshot rang out, Alice, who had been "unconscious," suddenly sprang up with incredible speed. Her body twisted at an unbelievable angle in mid-air, dodging several fatal shots, and she leaped over the rooftop railing, her hands already reaching for the building's exterior wall.
Mokro's beautiful female assassin is well hidden.
Wu Meng didn't give her a second chance.
With a kick, he struck Alice squarely in the side, sending her graceful body veering off the outer wall and flying in an arc into the darkness below the thirtieth floor.
Another muffled thud came from downstairs. The screams from the crowd grew louder.
Audi holstered his gun and let out a sigh of relief. "Finishing fire is a good habit; I'll keep that in mind from now on."
The three of them went down through the opening back into the building and headed straight for Cook's large flat.
This is the core headquarters of the Mokro Mafia in Dubai, with exquisite decoration, floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls, and first-class night view.
The safe was hidden there, they didn't know, but that didn't matter; they just had to tear down all the walls to find it.
Wu Meng moved, and threw a punch.
The entire load-bearing wall split open in the middle, concrete blocks flew out, steel bars twisted and turned outwards, and the security door, along with its frame, was blasted into the safe's interior.
As the dust settled, the interior was revealed to be filled with safes and file racks.
Audi stared at the hole in the wall, his Adam's apple bobbing. He swore he would never betray Su Yuyang in this lifetime.
It wasn't out of loyalty, it was out of fear.
After searching for a while, Audi pulled out a leather-bound ledger from deep inside the safe and opened it.
The first few pages showed overseas accounts and transaction records, with ridiculously large numbers, but Audi's expression grew increasingly grim as he flipped through the pages.
When he turned to the last page, he closed the ledger, his fingers gripping the cover, and remained silent for a long time.
Alpha sensed something was wrong: "What's wrong?"
Audi handed over the ledger, pointed to a page, and Alfa glanced at it, his expression changing.
The ledgers not only record the financial transactions of the Mokro Mafia, but also show how Cook laundered money for Dubai's real elites, managed their grey funds, and handled accounts for certain members of the military.
This ledger is both a key and a bomb.
Massacring Mokro would mean offending all of them.
Audi closed his eyes briefly, and when he opened them again, the smile on his face had completely vanished.
"This is a big problem."
