Transcending Worlds: I Have an Invincible Shelter
Chapter 16: The Trap
Shen Changge hesitated for a moment, his gaze sweeping over Lin Yizhi and the two girls, and his hesitation vanished instantly.
He nodded emphatically. "Okay! I'll go with you!"
"good,"
Song Ruhai nodded and quickly instructed, "The two of us will go around to the camp entrance and deliberately make a commotion to lure those mutated beasts towards the entrance."
"We might only have a short time left, so you need to hurry. Once you get the Source Crystal, meet up at that abandoned garage from last time. We'll come find you then."
"Okay, I got it!"
Lin Yizhi nodded vigorously, glancing at the two girls beside her. "We'll get the Source Crystal as soon as possible. You two must be careful!"
Song Ruhai and Shen Changge did not speak, but simply nodded emphatically.
Then, the two took a deep breath, crouched low, and carefully circled the stone wall, rushing towards the entrance of the night watch camp.
Before long, a loud commotion came from the camp entrance. The mutated beasts that were originally surrounding the wooden stakes were instantly attracted by the noise and roared as they rushed towards the camp entrance.
Hearing the roar coming from the doorway, Lin Yizhi knew her chance had come and whispered to the two girls beside her.
"Let's go! Quickly!"
The three of them crouched low and, taking advantage of the moment when all the mutated beasts rushed towards the door, quickly broke through the stone wall and hurried toward the dilapidated high-rise building in the middle of the camp.
Their footsteps were extremely light, and they dared not make the slightest unnecessary sound.
At the same time, on the rooftop of the 30th-floor building, the colorful light suddenly dissipated, and Su Yuyang's figure quietly appeared.
The surroundings were still shrouded in a thick, opaque gray-yellow smog, with distant high-rise ruins appearing and disappearing in the haze.
Unlike the location he landed at last time, Su Yuyang tightened his tactical backpack and warily stared at the only exit, as well as the human-shaped hole on the side.
He vaguely heard a violent roar coming from below, and wondered what was happening there.
But he remained cautious, walking step by step toward the rooftop exit.
Su Yuyang's gaze unconsciously swept towards the human-shaped gap at the edge of the rooftop. The edge was rough and new, obviously it had just been formed.
His heart sank instantly, he thought to himself.
"In this wasteland world, there are actually such experts who can make someone smash through a thick wall with a single kick."
This strength far surpasses the mutated zombies and two-headed hounds he encountered before, and is even several times stronger than after absorbing the blood energy crystal.
Suppressing the turmoil in his heart, Su Yuyang slowly walked to the entrance of the rooftop. Instead of rushing in, he stood sideways in a corner of the balcony and looked down.
At the height of the thirtieth floor, the gray-yellow smog, like a thick veil, completely obscured the view below, with only the faint roars of strange beasts echoing from below.
Interspersed among them were two familiar human shouts, broken and hurried, tinged with a sense of panic.
Su Yuyang held his breath and listened carefully in the direction of the wind. After a moment, his eyes narrowed slightly, and he guessed that it was Song Ruhai and Shen Changge.
In this desolate wasteland, he had encountered very few humans, and only the voices of these two people were enough for him to barely recognize them.
"Why is it that every time we appear, we see them being chased by mutated beasts?"
Su Yuyang muttered a complaint under his breath, his tone tinged with helplessness, yet also with a hint of wariness.
Song Ruhai and Shen Changge's shouts lingered outside the courtyard below, sometimes approaching, sometimes moving away, but they didn't seem to be trying to escape completely; it was more like they were deliberately attracting something.
A thought flashed through Su Yuyang's mind: when he left last time, the two of them had more than ten companions with them. Where did those people go?
Thinking of his companions, Su Yuyang's eyes lit up instantly, and a playful smile appeared on his lips.
He remembered very clearly that Song Ruhai and the others owed him thirteen blood energy crystals, and it was time to settle that debt.
Thinking of this, Su Yuyang could no longer restrain himself. He carefully bent down and stepped into the rooftop entrance, slowly descending the broken stairs.
As soon as he stepped into the building, a strong stench of blood hit him, mixed with a putrid smell, making him instinctively frown.
As he walked down the corridor, the stench of blood grew stronger and stronger. The walls were covered with large patches of dark red blood, some of which had dried and turned black.
In the cracks at the corner of the stairwell, there were still many human remains scattered, with bone fragments still covered with unlicked rotting flesh.
Su Yuyang slowed his pace and became increasingly vigilant. Even with the absolute safety zone protecting him, he had to be careful and cautious.
The human-shaped gap in the rooftop wall always left a lingering gloom in his heart.
The invisible, transparent light shield surrounding him completely isolated him from the gray-yellow smog and harmful gases from the outside world, but it could not block the bloody smell that permeated the air.
The pungent smell rushed into his nostrils, and Su Yuyang endured the discomfort and continued walking, his doubts growing deeper.
What exactly happened here?
When Su Yuyang reached the twenty-ninth floor, his eyes suddenly lit up. A fire axe was firmly embedded in the chest cavity of a corpse.
Su Yuyang strode forward, grabbed the handle of the fire axe with his right hand, and pulled it out with a little force.
With a "plop," the fire axe was easily pulled out.
He swung his arm, feeling the weight of the axe, and nodded to himself.
"It weighs at least ten pounds, which is quite light."
With a handy weapon in hand, Su Yuyang relaxed a little and casually shook off the bone fragments and bloodstains on his fire axe.
Next, we began to systematically sweep through the twenty-ninth floor.
This floor is not large, with only about thirty rooms, most of which show signs of human habitation.
The room was filled with tattered bedding and scattered tattered clothes, but there was not a single person in sight; only a mess remained.
After searching the entire twenty-nine floors, Su Yuyang found nothing of value, neither gold nor anything else of use.
He frowned slightly, quickened his pace, and went up the stairs to the twenty-eighth floor.
The layout of this floor was almost identical to that of the twenty-ninth floor, with more than thirty rooms. Su Yuyang already had a guess in his mind.
This building must be a gathering place for the native inhabitants of the wasteland.
Perhaps this is the night watch camp that Song Ruhai and the others mentioned, but now it is deserted.
Su Yuyang recalled the last time Song Ruhai and his group were chased by those guys who bombarded them with RPGs, and he gradually began to have a guess.
The people in this camp had either died in the fighting or been captured by the armed men known as the "Ember Camp".
"By the way, servant."
Su Yuyang suddenly remembered something and murmured to himself.
"I think I heard Song Ruhai and the others mention that the people in the Ash Earth Camp capture survivors to be enslaved."
As he pondered, Su Yuyang recalled the scene of being bombarded by RPGs last time, and his heart skipped a beat. He subconsciously wondered how many more thermal attacks his absolute safe zone could withstand.
Out of the corner of his eye, Su Yuyang's eyes fell on the fire axe in his hand, and suddenly the weapon in his hand didn't seem so appealing anymore.
Su Yuyang went down the stairs and searched quickly floor by floor, but after searching ten floors, every floor was empty. Apart from severed limbs and old debris, there was nothing usable.
He cursed the people of the Ash Earth Camp in his heart, for they had looted the place so thoroughly that nothing was left.
