In America, my cousin, Supergirl Kara...

Chapter 3 Parker Market Turmoil

Pike Place Market, located at the intersection of Pike Street and First Avenue, is the oldest farmers market in the United States.

When Li Xiao entered, the place was already packed with people, especially the fish stalls facing the market entrance, where a long queue had formed.

Many of them were tourists holding up their phones, but for some reason, the person standing at the front of the line was an old homeless man.

Li Xiao didn't pay much attention and strolled around casually. There were stalls everywhere, selling vegetables, seasonal fruits, and all kinds of American-style baked and fried foods. The air was filled with the smell of fish, shrimp, beef, and mutton mixed with body odor.

After walking around, Li Xiao found that the vegetable prices here were shockingly high. A wilted tomato the size of an egg cost 7 US dollars, while Chinese cabbage was sold at 3 US dollars per leaf.

Pork was relatively cheap, with a whole pork chop costing only $60. However, Li Xiao had heard that American pork was notoriously pungent, so he carefully examined the meat at the stall, a move that displeased the black woman.

"Hey, don't stick your nose in it."

Li Xiao ignored her and pointed to the row of doors he had his eye on.

"I want half, and two pig tails too."

Kara's teeth grinding last night was so loud that her cousin felt it was necessary to get her to "cure" it.

In the end, Li Xiao spent $60 to buy half a pork rib, a pig's tail, a bag of rice, scallions, ginger, garlic, and cream toast.

While chewing on his bread, Li Xiao was carrying ingredients and thinking about how to cook them when he got back when a commotion suddenly broke out in the market.

"Fuck! You son of a bitch, how dare you drip blood on my fish! Pay up! Or you're not leaving!"

"I'm so sorry, sir, I really didn't mean to. How about I return the fish to you?"

"Damn it, you want more fish?!"

Li Xiao looked in the direction of the sound and saw the old homeless man at the top of the line. His nose looked visibly distorted, as if he had been beaten. The Mexican vendor snatched the fish from the old man's hand and grabbed his messy gray hair, roaring loudly.

In front of the stall, a patch of fresh blood on the belly of a fish preserved with ice was particularly glaring.

"Oh my god! This idiot boss actually used frozen fish to fly people!" a white guy in a trench coat with slicked-back hair yelled. "Is he fucking crazy?"

"His wife and Olsen frequent singles bars; she probably takes her anger out on old George."

"That unlucky old George, I think he took some kind of performance-enhancing drugs and went crazy. He actually dared to take the hit on his face. I heard his daughter died at a party. Who knows, his skeleton will probably be shaved off and sold online."

Listening to the surrounding discussions, Li Xiao finally understood the whole story.

This fish stall has a long-standing tradition of flying fish; the staff will toss the fish to the customers, and the first person to catch it will receive it for free.

But for some reason, the stall owner actually threw a completely frozen fish out of the water today.

Old George was hit on the spot, his nose bleeding profusely, and the blood dripped onto the stall, which led to the conflict.

Li Xiao noticed that Old George's face was a little pale and his breathing was obviously difficult.

"You old bitch, just hand over the money, you don't want to lose a nose, do you?"

A sharp knife was pressed against old George's nose, as if it were about to stab him out at the slightest provocation.

Li Xiao put down the ingredients in the corner, preparing to go forward and lend a helping hand, when suddenly a roar sounded in his mind.

"Child of Krypton, you have arrived at a murloc shop. The old mole-man is being harassed by the scavenger murloc."

"The current mission has been issued: help the innocent mole people and teach the greedy scavenger fish people a lesson."

"Task Reward: 1 Free Attribute Point"

Li Xiao paused, his ears tingling, his super hearing instantly activated.

After filtering out the random noises, the focus was instantly on old George's body. His aging heart was pumping blood frantically, and there was a faint, hoarse sound coming from the valves. The situation was very bad.

Moreover, there were so many onlookers, as well as tourists who came specifically to see the place, that the entire passageway was completely blocked.

It's impossible to get in.

Seeing two Asians whispering behind the fish stall, Li Xiao quickly turned his attention to them.

"Hurry up and mix this batch of rainbow trout in... anyway, these stupid white pigs... can't tell the difference."

These two guys' words had a hint of Japanese cherry blossoms in them, clearly indicating they were from Japan.

Li Xiao narrowed his eyes slightly, realizing that's how it is.

Rainbow trout has almost the same texture as salmon, and even the taste is very similar. Coincidentally, the average American working class takes painkillers like food, so their tongues are already numb.

This restaurant specializes in selling salmon, so the profit margin is naturally very high.

After a quick thought, Li Xiao took a few steps back without making a sound, cleared his throat, and deliberately made his voice deeper and more resonant, incorporating a southern accent.

"Hey guys, why does this restaurant always bend over to handle the salmon? Are they secretly substituting it with other fish?"

Several people who were nearby instinctively stood on tiptoe to look inside. The boss's expression changed, and he suddenly glanced behind him.

Some things, if left unsaid, will be taken for granted by everyone. But once you break the ice, you'll find that something is wrong with everything.

The two Japanese men looked somewhat flustered, and everyone around them was watching them intently, ready to charge at the slightest provocation.

The fish in my hand flicked its tail and fell to the ground with a thud.

"Damn it! Pick up my fish!"

The white housewife buying fish shouted angrily, pushing through the crowd with her one-meter-long belly.

"That bitch, daring to pass off rainbow trout as salmon, that damn Mexican!"

The overweight white woman grabbed a Japanese man and punched him, then slammed him down on his buttocks.

The Japanese man let out a piercing scream, and with a swing of his arm, knocked over the salmon in the styrofoam box.

"Fuck you! No wonder I pooped out parasites yesterday!"

The crowd was immediately enraged and rushed into the fish stall.

The Mexican boss was pinned to the ground by several large white men, who then smashed a frozen fish against his bald head.

"Red bean paste, a private Marseille..."

The two Japanese men were beaten so badly they were spitting out their native language, but the crowd, blinded by rage, paid no heed and the market erupted into chaos.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Xiao pulled Old George away from the crowd and handed him a tissue.

"Wipe rub"

"Thank you so much, child. May God bless you."

The old man tore the tissue into two balls and stuffed them into his nostrils, replying in a muffled voice.

Li Xiao discreetly observed Old George: his hunched back, his beard growing like weeds, and the tattered jacket he'd picked up from somewhere, the outer layer completely peeled off.

"Your fish."

Li Xiaogui handed the fish to him, and old George hurriedly made the sign of the cross on his chest to express his gratitude.

"Old George, where is your family?"

"Almost everyone's dead. Ever since our house was foreclosed, our family has been living in the sewers," old George said, wiping away tears. "My only son's legs were badly ruptured by the government's alkali just the day before yesterday. I need this fish to help him recover. I can't get all the federal supplies I'm receiving. I want to take him to see a doctor, but I..."

Old George's voice choked with emotion, his words almost a sob.

"Old George, sell me half of this fish."

"Sir, you saved me, so this fish is naturally yours."

Old George forced a smile, gritted his teeth, and handed the fish to Li Xiao, who was rubbing his deeply furrowed hands. "Sir, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

"Don't rush."

Li Xiao picked up a cleaver from a nearby stall and chopped the frozen fish in two with a swift motion, but the force of the impact made his hand go numb.

I shouldn't have tried to show off.

Li Xiao silently put his hands behind his back, took the fish head, and handed over one hundred US dollars to old George without saying a word.

Without a sound, Li Xiao felt a granular object in his pocket. He casually took it out and a cloudy, round ball appeared before his eyes. It felt soft and chewy, like a QQ candy.

It's a pity, if it were a diamond, it might have been worth some money.

Li Xiao put the items in his pocket and walked to the corner, only to find that everything was still there except for the pork chop and toast.

Was it burgled?

Li Xiao subconsciously activated his super hearing, listening to the fluctuations from all directions like a radar with the slightest movement, and soon he caught the movement.

Li Xiao's expression was somewhat strange; the thief had actually moved towards his residential area.
