Chapter 43 Humans are Demons
Looking at this catgirl who was timid and hostile towards him, Roan was reminded of Celia from back then.
The elven girl back then was just like that, huddled in a cold corner, her body covered in wounds, her icy blue eyes filled with fear of humans.
"You were unconscious all night, you must be starving. I'll go make you some breakfast."
Luo An was afraid of further agitating the sensitive Elena, so he turned to leave after speaking.
"Master, why don't I do it?"
Celia then realized that she hadn't had time to cook breakfast that morning.
"No need, you stay here with her."
Luo An shook his head, closed the door, and walked out.
In the kitchen, Luo Ansheng started a fire to boil water and cooked hot porridge.
He was pondering this in his mind.
Celia was not nearly as hostile towards herself as Elena was.
She had just escaped from slave hunters, and the extent of what they did to her was evident from the numerous wounds covering her body.
The cat-eared girl's hatred and fear of humans are probably ingrained in her very bones.
"We'll just have to take it one step at a time."
Luo An wasn't in a hurry, knowing that gaining the other party's trust would be a long process.
He picked up a bowl of hot porridge and went back to his room.
"Master, she said her name is Elena."
Celia saw Roan and told him the name of the cat-eared girl.
"Irena?"
Luo An pretended not to know, a smile on his face.
"A very nice name."
In his eyes, Elena was still curled up, her slightly relaxed gaze tightening again the moment she saw him.
Luo An placed the hot porridge on the bedside table.
"The meat porridge is freshly cooked, it's not too hot to eat. You have injuries, eating something will help you heal faster."
Irene didn't move; she just sniffed it.
The rich aroma of rice mixed with the smell of meat wafted into my nostrils.
She hadn't eaten anything for three days and was starving.
In Elena's mind, humans should not treat slaves this way.
In order to tame disobedient slaves, slave traders could go for days without giving them a drop of water; any slave who disobeyed would be dragged out and severely whipped.
There were many other instances of brutal treatment of slaves, which Elena had witnessed far too many while she was imprisoned.
This is the first time I've ever seen a human cook porridge for a slave.
Is this a trap?
Or is it some new form of torture?
Elena looked at the hot porridge in the bowl, swallowed her saliva, and her stomach rumbled loudly.
She tried her best to control herself and dared not reach out to touch the bowl.
Luo An noticed her hesitation and simply pushed the bowl closer to her.
He looked at Celia and said, "Let's go out for breakfast first and let her have some peace and quiet."
Celia stood up, reminding me before leaving, "Elena, porridge tastes best when it's hot. Master's porridge is delicious."
The door was gently closed.
The room fell silent, and Elena stared at the bowl of porridge for a long time.
She recalled that when she was in the hands of slave traders, the porridge she drank was always cold and had an off-putting smell, even worse than dishwater.
But if you don't drink, you'll go hungry and get beaten.
And this bowl of porridge...
After hesitating for a long time, Elena finally picked up the bowl and took a small sip.
It's sweet and delicious.
Her eyes were red-rimmed as she drank the porridge in large gulps.
This was the best meal I had ever eaten after being branded as a slave.
......
Outside the room.
After finishing his porridge, Luo An asked Celia a question.
"Celia, when your father brought you back, did you hate humans?"
Celia was taken aback, not expecting her master to ask this.
"I don't hate."
She quickly shook her head.
Looking at the panic in her eyes, Luo An knew she was lying.
"To be honest, I won't blame you."
Celia remained silent for a moment, then, realizing she could no longer hide it from her master, said, "My tribe was attacked by humans, and my people were captured. At that time, I hated humans very much."
"After I was taken away by the master, he didn't beat me with a leather whip like those slave traders. He just made me do some rough work every day and gave me a bowl of thin porridge."
"Life was tough, but it was much better than the days when I was imprisoned by those bad guys."
It was only then that Celia realized that perhaps not all humans are bad people.
She didn't hate the master much, and she hated Luo An even less.
"The master said you were my master, but I only saw you once on the day I woke up, and you didn't come to the storeroom for the next half month."
"There was no contact, no beatings or scoldings, so I naturally have no hatred towards you. I only know that you are my master and I have to obey you."
The old farmer told Celia that her most important task was to serve her master well.
As for how to serve her, Celia blushed and was too embarrassed to say.
"When I met my master again half a month later, he treated me even better."
"I'm overjoyed to have met someone like my master; how could I possibly hate him?"
Luo An listened quietly to her, remaining silent for a long time.
It turned out to be the case.
Celia was able to accept the situation so quickly because, although old Bell did not treat her well, he did not mistreat her either.
After escaping from a more terrifying place, even if the new place is just average to her, she will feel like it is paradise.
Just like that saying.
"Because they have never seen the light, they can endure the darkness."
Although Celia harbored hatred for humans, it gradually faded, and naturally she didn't have much of a grudge against Roan.
It's normal for Elena, who has just escaped and hasn't yet adapted to her new environment, to harbor strong hostility towards humans.
Luo An had made up his mind.
If we let Elena gradually experience the differences here, and alleviate her prejudice against humans...
It shouldn't be human, but rather the hostility towards him, that would increase the cat-eared girl's trust in him.
As for when the trust level can be raised to 50%, that depends on just how much she hates humans.
"I'll go check on her again."
Luo An gently pushed open the door and walked in.
He noticed that the bowl of porridge on the bedside table was empty.
The bottom of the bowl was completely clean; not a drop of porridge was left.
When Elena on the bed heard the noise, her body instinctively stiffened, but she quickly relaxed.
The extreme fear that had been in her eyes was gone, replaced by confusion and bewilderment.
Elena looked at the human in front of her as if she had encountered something she could not understand at all.
"It's good that you've finished your porridge."
Luo An took the empty bowl and smiled.
"You don't need to do anything these next few days, just focus on resting and recuperating."
"Celia will be by your side. If you feel unwell anywhere, or if you want to eat something, you can tell Celia, and she will help you."
Roan made no demands of her, just as he had of Celia in the past.
Elena stared at him blankly.
Can we do nothing at all?
The way this human spoke to her was nothing like how one would treat a slave.
For a moment, Elena almost forgot her status as a slave.
"You get some rest, I won't bother you anymore."
While Elena was still in a daze, Roan had already turned and left.
She buried her face between her legs.
The pair of fluffy cat ears, which had been standing stiffly upright, suddenly went limp.
She didn't know what this human wanted to do.
Can slaves really enjoy a luxurious life where they "don't have to do anything"?
Recalling his tone of voice, it was very sincere, not like he was faking it.
And Celia beside him did not have the deep-seated fear that slaves have for their masters.
It was completely different from the master-servant relationship she had in mind.
Elena stared blankly at the closed door for a long time.
For the first time, her belief that "human beings are all heinous demons" began to waver.
