Chapter 60 "How can someone like you change!"
Chapter 60 "How can someone like you be changed!" (2k5)
When other crocodiles pounced, Vancan's movements were clean, swift, and brutal—his fists, palms, legs, and fingers striking.
Each strike was accompanied by the terrifying sounds of bones shattering and flesh tearing apart.
These ferocious beasts, who reign supreme in the sewers and could drive ordinary people to despair, are like paper toys in front of Van Cane, easily dismembered and torn apart.
"Monster—monster!" The King of the Sewers stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
An alligator attacked from behind, its massive jaws snapping at the back of Van Can's neck.
Van Cane's steel-like hand slash cut through the air, piercing the crocodile's gaping mouth, penetrating its jaws, and exiting from the top of its head!
Blood and brain matter splattered.
Vancan casually tossed the crocodile carcass hanging from his arm like trash.
The ferocious crocodiles did not slow him down at all. Vancan walked past, leaving behind seven or eight twisted and mangled crocodile corpses. Blood stained the ground and spread out, the strong stench almost suffocating.
His tracksuit was soaked in dark red blood, all crocodile blood, not a single drop of it was his.
Van Can stepped over pools of blood and severed limbs, heading toward the King of the Sewers, who was so terrified he was almost losing control of his bladder and his face was deathly pale.
As he passed a crocodile that was still twitching slightly and on the verge of death, he didn't stop walking and casually stepped on it.
Click!
The crocodile's hard skull exploded like a watermelon, splattering red and white matter all over the ground.
His shoes were covered in brain matter and bone fragments, but he didn't care.
The King of the Sewers watched as this blood-soaked, monstrous man approached step by step, his crotch soaked and his whole body trembling like a leaf.
He had never seen Batman before, but at this moment he was absolutely certain that even the legendary Dark Knight was not even a tenth as terrifying and—cold as the man before him!
The undisguised killing intent in the other person's eyes made his very soul tremble.
He would rather encounter that bat-like monster than this person.
"No—no—don't kill me!"
The King of the Sewers wept uncontrollably and spoke incoherently.
"These children—they are all homeless orphans, street children!"
"I took them in, I gave them clothes to wear, I gave them food to eat, I—I even taught them a skill so they could earn a living. I was helping them!"
Van Can had already walked up to him, looking down at him with a cold, unsmiling smile. He raised his hand and patted him on the shoulder, as if to encourage him.
"oh?
So, you're saying you're a good person after all?
The king of the sewers has no real fighting power; he relies entirely on the crocodiles he keeps to lord it over others.
At that moment, he watched as Van Can slowly raised his hand, stained with blood and brain matter, and pressed it little by little against his shoulder.
He was terrified, yet he didn't even have the courage to dodge, fearing that any slight movement would bring even more terrible torment.
That hand, as strong as steel, finally landed on his left shoulder.
Vancan looked into his one eye, which was filled with extreme fear, and said, "Someone like you—"
Before he finished speaking, his five fingers suddenly tightened!
Click, click-click—!
The chilling sound of bones cracking rang out in rapid succession!
The shoulder blades and collarbone of the King of the Sewers were instantly crushed by Van Can's terrifying strength, like an egg thrown into a hydraulic press!
The intense pain caused him to scream like a pig being slaughtered. He tried to curl up, but the hand held him firmly, preventing him from moving.
This is not over yet.
Van Cannon delivered a casual yet sharp sweeping kick.
Bang! Crack!
Another muffled thud and a clear crack in the bone!
The King of the Sewers' legs bent outwards at an eerie angle. He screamed and flew out like a sack of rags, crashing into the wall before sliding to the ground, clutching his twisted and deformed legs and emitting a mournful wail.
Van Can approached again, step by step, his footsteps echoing in the deathly silent sewers like the drumbeats of death.
"Don't kill me!"
The King of the Sewers, with his only remaining intact hand, desperately clawed at the ground and dragged his broken leg, trying to escape, leaving a trail of blood in his wake.
"Someone like you—" Van Ken's voice seemed to come from the depths of hell, "how can you possibly change?"
He walked up behind the King of the Sewers, grabbed the man's greasy hair, and lifted him up like a chick waiting to be slaughtered.
"Only death!"
Van Can, carrying the screaming King of the Sewers, walked over to a crocodile that was still dying in a pool of blood.
The crocodile was not completely dead yet.
Vancan reached out his other hand, grabbed the upper jaw of the crocodile, and forcibly pried open its mouth, revealing the writhing esophagus and stomach entrance deep in its throat.
A strong stench of fish and blood hit me.
Van Can aimed the head of the King of the Sewers at the dark, slimy opening.
"You really enjoy feeding your children to crocodiles?"
Van Can asked, "Tell me, how many children have you killed like this?"
"No—no! Not a single one, I really don't have any!"
The King of the Sewers was terrified, shaking his head frantically in denial, his face streaked with tears and snot.
Van Kent's hand, which was gripping his hair, tightened suddenly!
"ah--!"
The King of the Sewers felt like his scalp was being ripped off, and with blood flowing down, the excruciating pain almost made him faint.
"to be honest."
Three words, cold as iron.
"Six—six!"
The King of the Sewers collapsed and screamed.
"There were only six, really only six. They were all disobedient kids who wanted to run away. The others—the other kids could have made money for me, but I couldn't bear to part with them. There were really only six!"
"Only?
How dare you use the word "only"?
Six—isn't that enough?
Van Ken laughed in anger, his laughter devoid of any warmth. "Do you perhaps think that number isn't enough to warrant your death?"
The next second, under the horrified, incredulous yet subtly expectant gazes of all the children around him, Van Can exerted his strength and mercilessly shoved the head of the King of the Sewers into the crocodile's gaping throat!
It was inserted deep into the crocodile's stomach.
"Waaaaahh ...
The King of the Sewers' screams turned into muffled, suffocating sobs.
Provoked, the crocodile instinctively began to devour the prey, its sharp teeth snapping at it, blood splattering everywhere.
Its two legs twitched as it struggled.
A violent struggle.
But that struggle grew weaker and weaker.
The agonizing pain of suffocation, the burning sensation of stomach acid, and the excruciating pain of broken bones all over the body —
Soon, the upper body of the King of the Sewers, which had been stuffed inside, stopped moving.
Only his two legs, bent at bizarre angles and stained with blood, remained outside the crocodile's mouth, occasionally twitching nervously.
After completing its final swallowing reflex, the crocodile ceased its struggles and, along with its king, met its end.
In the vast underground space, only the smell of blood and a deathly silence remained.
All the children stared blankly at the scene, at the young figure standing amidst the pool of blood and corpses, like a demon.
Van Kene slowly straightened up, shaking off the slime and bloodstains from his hands.
He looked at the children, his gaze sweeping over their pale, terrified faces, yet seemingly revealing a strange light, as if he had seen light, seen hope.
Vancan didn't say anything, but walked to the sink that the King of the Sewers used, turned on the tap, and rinsed the blood off his hands and face.
The cold water washed away the bloodstains and seemed to dilute some of the pervasive murderous aura.
"Next, we need to settle these children, contact the relevant people, and find some people to handle the scene."
He had gained his first glimpse into the darkness of Gotham.
Bats have come to clean the ground.
Van Can pulled his old but durable cell phone from his pocket, which hadn't been stained with too much blood; the screen glowed faintly in the dim light.
He found a number labeled B and dialed it.
The call connected, and a deep, magnetic voice came through: "Feed?"
"It's me, Bat."
"----monkey?"
"I've arrived in Gotham," Vancan said. "But I've run into a little trouble. This is your city, so could you help me sort it out?"
His gaze swept over the corpses at the scene and the huddled children in the distance.
"The scene is a bit chaotic. We need cleaners, body bags, and shovels. We also need some doctors and caregivers."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
Even Batman was speechless at these sudden, information-packed words.
A few seconds later, the sound resumed, with a barely perceptible pause.
"----Location."
After Van Cann gave his location, Batman arrived quickly, arriving just over ten minutes later with a large group of people to handle the situation.
