Chapter 17 The Tortoise Would Never Agree

Master Raccoon looked at his five dejected disciples and his tone became serious.

"As for Van Can's willingness to hand over the secret manual... it only shows that he has enough patience and enough confidence in his own talent."

But this doesn't fully represent whether a person's character is good or bad!

"The more talented and patient a person is, the more devastating the damage they may cause if they are evil!"

He paced back and forth a couple of times, then continued in a deep voice.

"Moreover, the Dragon Warrior must shoulder the heavy responsibility of managing the Jade Emperor Palace and maintaining the Valley of Peace, and must become a role model for all martial arts masters in the world."

One must use personal prestige and skill to mediate and resolve conflicts and disputes in various places!

Such a person needs to be highly skilled and talented, but that alone is far from enough!

Master Raccoon stopped and glanced at each of his disciples.

"He needs to have a steady personality, be tolerant of others, be open to opinions, and be genuinely respected by others."

To be a good leader, one must be able to treat everyone fairly, endure grievances, and not act recklessly due to momentary impulses.

The complexity involved goes far beyond simply winning a fight or displaying a bit of confidence!

He was reprimanding his disciples, trying to reignite their fighting spirit and tell them that they still had a chance.

A servant from the Jade Emperor's Palace hurried down the corridor.

"master!"

The servant bowed, panting, "The Great Hero of the Dragon Sect wishes to see you."

He said... he has already decided on the candidate to train for the next Dragon Warrior, and asked you to go to Master Oogway's place to discuss it together.

"What? The next Dragon Warrior?"

What a joke! He's only just become the Dragon Warrior, and he's already thinking about the next one.

Whom did he choose?

Master Raccoon was taken aback, his voice suddenly rose, and he had a bad feeling.

The servant shrank back and whispered.

"It seems...it seems to be that waiter at the Heike Noodle Shop at the foot of the mountain, Po the panda."

When the Dragon Warrior went up the mountain, it seemed like Po was the one who led the way; they seemed to know each other…

"..."

Tigress and her five companions were stunned once again.

It's one thing if they can't become the Dragon Warrior, but now... even the waiter at the noodle shop down the mountain might become the Dragon Warrior?

"Nonsense, this is utter nonsense!!!"

Master Raccoon felt a surge of anger rush to his head, making his beard bristle. He spun around in place, nearly crushing the Divine Dragon Manual in his hand.

"He's really crazy!"

How long has he been the Dragon Warrior?

Less than a day!

They haven't even figured out which way the Jade Emperor's Palace doors face, yet they've already chosen the next trainee?!

What does he take the Dragon Warrior for?

Are those Chinese cabbages from the street vendors?

Anyone can be this position?!

He got angrier and angrier as he talked.

"How can someone who acts entirely on their own whims and does whatever they please be the Dragon Warrior?!"

I'm going to see the turtle.

The tortoise should take a good look at the person he chose; what kind of person is he really?

If he had any sense left, he would never have agreed to Van Can's ridiculous behavior.

If such a willful person were to actually become the Dragon Warrior and take charge of the Jade Emperor's Palace, what would our Jade Emperor's Palace become?!

Wouldn't we become a laughingstock for the whole world?

After saying that, he no longer cared about reprimanding his disciple, nor about how important the Divine Dragon Manual in his hand was. He stomped his foot angrily, turned around and strode towards the direction where Master Turtle was meditating. His small back seemed to be breathing fire.

The five disciples were also stunned for a moment, but when they came to their senses, they quickly followed.

……

Behind the Jade Emperor Palace, on the cliff.

An old peach tree that has been growing here for who knows how many years.

Its roots are deeply embedded in the crevices of the rocks, and its branches are gnarled and vigorous.

The peach blossoms are in full bloom. When the wind blows, the petals flutter down and cover the bluestone ground under the trees. The fallen flowers are colorful and very beautiful.

Master Turtle sat cross-legged under the tree, his back to the Jade Emperor Palace, facing the valley, his eyes closed, his body covered in petals.

He has been sitting here for a long time.

So long that passing birds mistook him for a stone and dared to perch on his forehead to rest.

As Van Cane led Po up the cliff, a bird flew away from Master Oogway's head.

The chubby Abao had so much fat on his belly that his belt sagged down, and he had to catch his breath after just a few steps.

"That...is that Master Oogway?"

The panda, resting its knees on its hands, gazed at the legendary figure's back, filled with excitement and an unconscious sense of awe.

He lived in the Valley of Peace for twenty years and heard countless legends about Master Oogway.

"Legend has it that Master Oogway has lived for countless years and his kung fu is unfathomable. All kung fu masters in the world would treat him as a disciple."

Today is the first time he has seen it in person.

"It's him."

Vanken said.

"Can I really go with you?"

Will he think I'm being presumptuous?

What should I say first?

Should we kowtow?

I've heard that you have to kowtow when you meet a senior martial arts master—

"Ah Bao".

Van Can interrupted him.

"Um?"

"You talk too much."

Abao quickly covered his mouth.

Van Ken smiled, lifted his foot and walked towards the peach tree, his steps neither hurried nor slow.

Ah Bao followed behind, trying his best to make his footsteps as quiet as possible, but his 200-plus-pound body made a crunching sound on the gravel no matter how careful he was, like a bear stealing watermelons.

Master Oogway did not turn around.

Vancan walked to the peach tree, stood three feet to the side of Master Turtle, and then sat down cross-legged.

His movements were very natural, as if he were sitting at home.

Abao stood behind him, unsure of where to put her hands, before finally letting them hang obediently at her sides, looking like a primary school student who had made a mistake.

Peach blossoms fell one by one.

"You've arrived."

How's the Jade Emperor's Palace?

Master Turtle spoke.

His voice was like spring water seeping from a crack in a rock, unhurried and gentle, each word carrying a peaceful charm.

He still didn't turn around, but Van Can and Abao both knew who he was talking to.

"Very big."

There will likely be many things to worry about in the future.

Van Ken said.

"Has the master been sitting here for a long time?"

"As people grow old..."

Master Turtle said slowly, "It makes it easier to recall the past."

Sitting under the tree, watching the flowers bloom and fade, my mind keeps replaying those old stories.

Thinking of all the people I've met, the roads I've walked, the fights I've fought, and the debts I've owed.

He paused for a moment.

"Especially for elderly people like me who don't have much time left."

The wind picked up, and the peach blossoms fell even faster.

A few petals fell onto Master Turtle's shoulder, but he didn't brush them away.

Under the quiet peach tree, seeing this scene, Van Ken remained silent.

A favor owed to someone?

Humans come into this world naked, without any attachments, and they should leave without any attachments either.

He happened to bring someone who would allow the tortoise to leave without any worries, which could be considered a way of repaying the tortoise for appointing him as the new Dragon Warrior.

He was also able to let the dying tortoise give him pointers without any burden.

As the two spoke, Abao stood behind them, not daring to breathe.

"You brought a friend with you."

Master Turtle said.

With his skill level, he could know what was behind him without even turning his head.

"I think he can be groomed to be the next Dragon Warrior and take over my position in the future."

"Oh?"

This time, the tortoise was unusually surprised and slowly turned its head.
