Chapter 5 The Men's Gang's First Dinner

After Yan Min finished speaking, the dinner officially began.

Based on the principle of socializing in close proximity.

Jiang Chengyu spent most of his time chatting with Huang Bo and Xiaozhu.

I talked the most with the pig.

There was no way around it; he was closest to Little Pig in the entire private room.

After all, Jiang Chengyu debuted in Taiwan.

Taiwan is only so big.

There are only a handful of people at the very top of the Taiwanese entertainment pyramid.

It's difficult for the two sides to avoid interaction.

Apart from Show Lo, Jiang Chengyu's relationships with the others present were quite clear.

Yan Min and Ren Jing were the directors of the first season of Go Fighting!

Jiang Chengyu had never met Ren Jing before.

I've only met Yan Min a few times because of the show.

Then there is Wang Zijian.

Jiang Chengyu was completely unfamiliar with him.

All I know is that he has a talk show called "Tonight 80's Talk Show".

But Jiang Chengyu hadn't seen it.

The only information we have about him is the news of his family's corruption in later generations.

Then came Sun Honglei.

When Jiang Chengyu was active in the entertainment industry, I met him several times at various ceremonies and galas.

But they were just nodding acquaintances.

The two of them had never talked.

Next up is Huang Bo.

The two have known each other for quite some time.

Jiang Chengyu was one of the investors in "Crazy Stone".

As I said before, he felt like he was committing a crime if he didn't take the money he found for free.

However, the two didn't have many opportunities to meet.

They don't chat much normally.

The relationship is at best slightly better than that of strangers.

They are friends in a broad sense, but not quite true friends.

Finally, there's Huang Lei.

The two were quite familiar with each other.

However, the relationship between the two is somewhat complicated.

Jiang Chengyu would instinctively look away when he saw Huang Lei's gaze.

Noticing Jiang Chengyu's evasiveness, Huang Lei smiled.

He picked up his wine glass and raised it to toast Jiang Chengyu.

"General Manager Jiang?"

"Why aren't you saying anything when we meet an old friend?"

"Come on, Mr. Jiang, let me toast you."

"Thank you for not coming to our school for the past two years."

The sarcasm in Huang Lei's words was very obvious.

The lively atmosphere at the dinner table instantly turned solemn.

Sun Honglei, who was closest to Huang Lei at the table, put down his chopsticks and blinked his small eyes twice.

He glanced at Jiang Chengyu twice, then looked back at Huang Lei.

"Lei Zi, you and President Jiang knew each other before?"

"I've never heard you mention this before?"

Jiang Chengyu's identity as a boss is no secret.

Since he started to let loose, almost everything about him has been exposed.

Looking at this statement again, Sun Honglei's inclination is very obvious.

While maintaining a facade of neutrality, they also blocked Huang Lei's path.

He didn't know what had happened between Huang Lei and Jiang Chengyu, but he wanted the meal to proceed normally.

Everyone here is a shrewd person.

No one could fail to understand the meaning behind Sun Honglei's words.

But Huang Lei wasn't going to agree with what Sun Honglei said.

Or rather, he and Jiang Chengyu didn't have any real conflict.

We're recording a show together tomorrow.

He wanted to use this meal to have a proper chat about everything that needed to be said.

Otherwise, if there's always a grudge between them, working together will be very awkward.

Huang Lei switched the wine glass to his hand and gently patted Sun Honglei's shoulder with his right hand to indicate that everything was alright.

Then, with a big smile on his face, he looked around and said loudly.

"Mr. Jiang and I have known each other for a long time."

"Let me tell you about our love-hate relationship."

Upon hearing Huang Lei's words, Jiang Chengyu silently tapped the bottom of the villa.

But no one noticed the embarrassment in his expression.

Everyone's attention was drawn to Huang Lei.

"Since we're sitting at the same table today, I don't think I need to introduce myself."

"The only one who might not know is the little pig."

"Little Show, let me tell you, besides being an entertainer, I'm also a teacher."

"I am a teacher at the Beijing Film Academy."

"Teaching acting and dialogue."

"I joined Beijing Film Academy in 97."

"I was young then, and being a teacher was a challenge for me."

"But I did pretty well in the first few years."

"Until our CEO Jiang debuted in the entertainment industry."

"My teaching career has hit a roadblock!"

Seeing that Huang Lei was telling the story, everyone's anxiety subsided.

Huang Lei's way of speaking suggests he's unlikely to get into trouble.

The fear of disappearing has been replaced by curiosity.

Especially the little pig, who is the most curious.

Seeing Huang Lei keeping her in suspense, she impatiently pressed for more information.

Why?

"Jiang Chengyu debuted in Taiwan?!"

"You are a teacher at the Beijing Film Academy."

"Aren't you two sitting next to each other?"

"I remember he didn't film many TV series in mainland China."

"How could you possibly become an obstacle in your career?"

"And you even said that he became a stumbling block in your career right from the start?"

"This is not scientifically sound!"

The others remained silent.

But their facial expressions all showed agreement with what the little pig said.

Seeing this, Huang Lei continued speaking along with the little pig.

"You're wrong."

"F4 was so popular back then!"

"Saying it's a global phenomenon is a bit of an exaggeration."

"But the fact remains that it became a hit across Asia."

"Back then, F4 was doing commercial performances all over the world, and they came to Beijing time and time again."

"I don't need to elaborate on President Jiang's character, do I?"

I'm talking about myself.

"I have only served as a homeroom teacher for two terms."

"Since 2000, I have only worked as a teacher."

"I'm very strict with my students."

"Unless there is some unavoidable event, students are not allowed to be absent from my classes."

"Then starting in 01, students frequently skipped my classes."

"I teach acting and dialogue."

"This is a large lecture!"

"Students are skipping class for no reason. As a teacher, I have a responsibility to the school and the parents. I have to investigate!"

"Then I found out something."

"Whenever a student in our class skips class, President Jiang is always in Beijing!"

After he finished speaking, everyone's eyes turned to Jiang Chengyu.

Jiang Chengyu had nothing to say about this.

The only thing they could do was keep picking at their food to cover it up.

He just picks at his food without eating, making it seem like he's very busy...

Seeing that Jiang Chengyu remained silent, Huang Lei's smile deepened.

"If this is just an isolated incident, then I won't say anything."

"Although I am a teacher, I really cannot be fully responsible for the life of any one student."

"The main problem is that our General Manager Jiang is too dishonest."

"There are three major art academies in mainland China, and he has focused his efforts on Beijing Film Academy."

As he spoke, Huang Lei began counting on his fingers.

"Class of 01, Huang Shengyi."

"Class of 02, Jiang Yiyan."

"Class of 03, Yang Xue and Zhang Jiani."

"Class of 04, uh, there isn't one in Class of 04."

"The class of 05 included Yang Mi and Yuan Shanshan."

"It seems like the 06 cohort is useless."

"Then, in 07, it was Shuangzi."

"I haven't been teaching regularly since 07."

As he spoke, Huang Lei chuckled and patted the table: "Go ahead and say it!"

"Our General Jiang is really never idle!"

"They're just taking advantage of our school to cause trouble!"

"Since 01, I have had students frequently absent from my classes."

"Do you think he's a stumbling block in my teaching career?"
