Dark Eldar

86. To make a name for oneself

Kevin Garnier's "Grudin" castle has fallen (due to superior equipment). This battle, like many others, was one of devastation and heavy casualties.

On Dark Messenger Dark's side, casualties were about 20%, with 30 dark soldiers killed. Half of the newly recruited "native monsters" (low to mid-level) died, leaving about 110 remaining.

Hawkwell, the half-human lord of Gludin Castle, was killed by Dark in the battle (a single-target kill; a sneak attack with Shadow Arrow). A level 40+ native mage was "easy as pie" for Dark. The remaining soldiers, who stubbornly resisted, were mercilessly slaughtered by the Barbarian King and the Slayer. The cowardly elite minor chieftain led several thousand men to surrender, lowering the iron chains of the city gates to welcome the new lord, Dark.

The young high elves, siblings Irete and Eliza, remained almost entirely invisible. They didn't want to kill anyone, and they couldn't stop Dark's attack, so they had no choice but to follow behind the group with the alluring woman. They couldn't very well "leave the party," after all, this was an "important mission" given to them by Demacia. (The Demacian quest "Inscription" hints: "You must secretly learn from Dark.")

The DK's chief vanguard officer actively collects "Dark Spirit Stones," awaiting the future resurrection of the Dark Soldiers. (Resurrecting Dark Soldiers is an extremely dangerous ritual, typically performed at the altar of "Dark Castle"; after resurrection, their combat strength is halved.)

The new lord of Gludin walked up to the city wall. He waved to everyone.

Below the city gate, there was applause, cheers, and silent paupers. Most of these paupers were half-humans and half-orcs, with gray, white, and green skin; their specific lineage remained to be "verified."

Dak began, "I know you have been invaded by my army. Your old lord, Hawke, did what he had to do. Here, I bow deeply to express my deepest sorrow and regret for his departure!" Dak followed ancient human rituals: after conquering a city-state, he would offer a eulogy and observe a moment of silence for its former master, regardless of whether he was good or evil... (Ancient Ritual)

After that, Dark said mostly polite things, "The loot will be distributed to the new recruits according to their needs. The money will be divided equally (less than 300G; aside from the different designs on the gold coins and their slightly lighter weight, the currency units for gold, silver, and bronze coins remain 'unchanged')..." The loot dropped by the Gludin soldiers was quite meager. Even the Barbarian King and his men couldn't bear to pick it up; almost none of the equipment was blue. The majority was green "eco-friendly gear." Some Gludin guards, even at level 30+, were fighting bravely with "white" bows and arrows, utterly harmless. (Eco-friendly gear: a nickname for green equipment in "Otherworld," referring to worthless small, scattered items.)

The former city lord, the mage "Hawkville," dropped a blue "Eridan Battle Staff" (475-605 damage, +80 Agility, +124 Stamina, +86 Intellect, +54 Mastery, Speed 3.60), a well-balanced staff. It's estimated that dismantling it will yield "Magicstone Ore" (dismantling equipment with Mastery has a high probability of yielding "Magicstone Ore"; blue; an essential material for forging artifacts).

Dark kept it for himself first, as this kind of thing wasn't suitable for everyone to "roll." Dark instructed Ludal, using the "official explanation": "This weapon has a 'Eridan' clue, and it might be our next target, so we need to keep it for now." (Roll: Everyone rolls dice to determine ownership of weapons and equipment; an extremely "fair" primitive method of distribution)

In truth, Dark had already violated the "rules" he had set, yet no one objected, and no one dared to say anything. It seems the principle of "winner takes all" applies in any world.

Although Gludin Castle was a small city-state, the former lord lived a rather extravagant life, and dealing with the family of the half-human "Hockville" was a troublesome matter. "5 banshees, 2 humans, and 12 half-human women," they were all incredibly alluring, and several banshees who knew "charm" magic discovered Ludar's subordinates, the "charm women" hiding behind the pillars.

The barbarian king was completely stunned. Ludal had already planned this.

"My lord, perhaps..."

The rebel leader, Ludar, spoke cautiously, fearing to offend Dak, who had just achieved victory. The famous saying, "Serving a ruler is like serving a tiger," remained constantly in Ludar's mind.

"Enchantress, Elf Eliza, these girls are all under your command. No one else is to be touched! Anyone who disobeys will be executed!" Dark gave the order. He dared not act recklessly, partly because of Yundaldemar's restraint, and partly because he had already decided to "make a name for himself" in Kevin Garnier!
