Transform into a human

Chapter 1 Even the Dead Are Deceived

On Esfri's interstellar route to the police headquarters, a small spaceship gracefully traced an arc.

Inside the spaceship, music was playing merrily:

"At the dining table, she picked out the tendons and skin from the spoon; before going out, she adjusted her collar, straightened her clothes, put on her hair, and combed her hair..."

"You say this young man's love is as sweet as honey, but once you marry into his family, he'll likely abandon you within half a year or an anniversary. He'll start baring his teeth and spitting out his mouth, punching and kicking you until you're crying."

Yue Lai, caught up in the excitement, couldn't help but sing along:

"I'll beat you until you cry!"

Li, unable to bear it any longer and feeling offended, was about to angrily shut down the channel when the old police officer Donald quickly changed the channel.

Deep Space Group launches its new intelligent skin, covering all models; order now and enjoy a 2% discount…

In the 3D projection, a beautiful clockwork elf is striking poses, looking not much different from a human woman.

"Snapped!"

The holographic broadcast was now completely shut down, and Donald slumped back in his chair, utterly dejected, wondering how to kill the remaining hours.

At that moment, the voices of the other two suddenly came from behind:

"Yue Lai, I want that leather cover."

"Mo, that leather outfit is too beautiful, it doesn't suit you."

"Isn't being pretty a good thing?"

"I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself."

The clockwork sprite pondered for a moment:

"Yue Lai, I don't mind what you do to me."

"But I'm afraid I'll suffocate."

"After all, dear Jasmine, you're a model from over five hundred years ago, so you don't come with any of those weird features."

There's a saying, "It goes everywhere," which means that you shouldn't try to enter a place that isn't open to you.

Li clenched his fist. To say such vulgar things in front of a policewoman was blatant contempt!

But remembering Donald's warning, she forced herself to suppress her anger.

Mo lowered her head sadly, looking at her ancient brass cover, where she could occasionally see the rotating gear structure through the gaps.

"I still have a hole!"

"That's called a seam."

"Forget about it, I'm not going to replace the skin for you."

Miss Elf's face fell instantly; she didn't want to be called "Grandma Nicole" every time by the new wind-up elf from the bakery next door.

To pass the time, Donald joined in their conversation:

"Ms. Nicole, I must remind you once again of the reason for your arrest."

Mo said with a wronged look, "I know, it's just that I drew a little sheep on my chest."

"But as the only surviving first-type steam-powered wind-up elf from five hundred years ago, you are a key protected cultural relic of the Federation, and the crime of damaging cultural relics is one of the offenses."

"As the person primarily responsible for the protection of cultural relics, to steal from them is to compound one crime, that is the second point."

"We recorded the entire process, and based on your statement just now, there is clearly no sign of remorse. If I may be so bold, this is not conducive to your obtaining a favorable judgment in court."

Jasmine wanted to cry but had no tears.

Because she did not have artificial tear glands installed.

Yue Lai felt it was necessary to stand up and say something fair:

"Officer, if cultural relics damage themselves, it's just natural wear and tear, right? I strongly suspect that you two are just looking for an excuse to lock Mo up in the museum."

"That's right, that's right."

She doesn't want to be seen by others.

Moreover, Yue Lai is going to prison, so if she goes to the museum, wouldn't the two of them be separated?

That won't do.

Donald squinted:

"Mr. Yue Lai, instead of speaking up for others, you should worry about yourself. What you've done is far more serious than what Ms. Nicole has done."

Yue Lai shrugged: "I was just conducting normal business when suddenly two police officers appeared out of nowhere and arrested me and my assistant without saying a word."

"This is really making me want to cry!"

The veteran police officer remained unmoved.

"Mr. Yue, your so-called 'business operations' involve the deliberate killing of people, and according to the investigation, you have repeatedly committed illegal killings. Including other serious crimes, you are likely to spend the rest of your life in prison."

Mo was a little curious:

"Yue Lai, do you have other serious crimes?"

Yue Lai looked completely innocent:

"I don't know, didn't those people ultimately not come back to life?"

At this point, even the seasoned Donald couldn't hold back his composure:

"That's because you buried the survivors back in! Therefore, you are also guilty of intentional homicide. Considering the number of times you've committed this crime, the federal government hasn't seen such a heinous case in many years."

He added:

"It's absolutely outrageous."

Yue Lai, however, was even more innocent:

"Officer, isn't there something wrong with your police logic? Those clients were already dead, how could I kill a bunch of dead people?"

"But you brought them back to life!"

"So, to make amends for this mistake, I restored them to their previous state."

"..."

Donald's head was throbbing. To be honest, Esfrie's police hadn't encountered such an outrageous case in a long time, otherwise the police headquarters wouldn't have had to step in.

Federal law stipulates that if a natural person is declared dead but is not actually dead, it does not affect their right to perform legal acts during the period of the declaration of death.

The problem lies in the phrase "but not dead." The people who were tricked into coming back to life were actually dead before...

Because of the imperfections in the law, it is difficult to say how this case will be sentenced in the end, but he still has one charge against him.

"Mr. Yue Lai, you don't need to take any chances. According to the Third Amendment to the Federal Extraordinary Restriction Act, every person with the ability to 'scam' must register with the police headquarters and is prohibited from using their methods without permission."

"You might as well calculate how many times you've used the trick."

Yue Lai stared wide-eyed at him innocently:

"How can you slander someone like this! Who's the liar?!"

"And that street is called 'The Deceitful'!"

Donald said quietly:

"Every scammer says that."

"But you have no evidence, do you?"

"The police will still use the basic process of elimination. There are twelve ways to fool a dead person. Only a conman can bring a dead person back to life."

"I've even seen cases where a 'my unworthy son' made a 'father' so angry he came back to life!"

"But not every victim is a 'godfather,' nor does everyone have the lineage of 'rebels.'"

"Fine, fine, they have real names, but liars only have nicknames, huh!"

When one plan failed, Yue Lai devised another:

"Officer, I thought you 'spies' were the most evidence-oriented, but your chain of evidence isn't solid!"

"No matter what, one of the twelve paths is ultimately unclear, and no one can guarantee the correctness of the process of elimination, can they?"

Donald had a toothache; he had no idea how many times criminals had used the hidden method as an excuse. Even though some of the evidence came from unique methods, they kept running into obstacles in court because of that supposedly hidden method.

I know this person is a serious criminal, but I can't do anything about it. It's infuriating!

Yue Lai's face was filled with sincerity:

"Officers, I swear I'm not lying to you. I actually have that hidden path; I have absolutely nothing to do with being a con artist!"

But Donald had already given up on him, and the old officer felt mentally exhausted for the first time in a long time during this mission.

Li Hualeisi, who had been listening quietly, suddenly felt her eyelashes flutter slightly. Yue Lai keenly noticed this subtle movement and continued:

"I know how many losses the police suffer every year because of this hidden route. Don't you want to find out the real nature of this route?"

"Once we figure out how to do it, even a conservative estimate would be that the federal crime rate would drop dramatically."

The beautiful policewoman finally spoke:

"But how can we trust you?"

Unexpectedly, Yue Lai did not reply. As if he had fulfilled some wish, he let out a long sigh and comfortably slumped in his chair.

Seeing this, Li's anger soared, and Donald sighed deeply:

"Wallace, I warned you before, 'innocent' people are most easily fooled. Because if they fool you, their skills will improve."

"But I didn't believe a single one of his lies!"

"He tricked you into speaking."
