Chapter 7 The Opportunity Has Truly Arrived

The 2011-2012 NBA season was a shortened season.

After labor negotiations broke down in June, the union went into a standstill until mid-November when the two sides resumed negotiations and quickly reached an agreement.

Subsequently, the NBA announced the restart of the season, with the new season starting at the end of December.

With a shortened season, injuries are inevitable.

But before the season even started, Biedrins got injured.

The Warriors only have one true center, Biedrins; otherwise, Mark Jackson wouldn't have waived Jeremy Lin and would have signed a center instead.

With Biedrins injured, the Warriors only have Ekpe Udoh, who can play center, and Lin Bei left on the roster.

The opportunity has truly arrived.

"The season starts in a week..."

A schedule was posted at the Warriors' training facility; the shortened season had no preseason games, and it started with the regular season right away.

In their first game of the regular season, the Warriors will face the Los Angeles Clippers.

"The first game against DeAndre Jordan, the matchup between centers, can be considered a major highlight."

Lin Bei was eager to try, but he also knew that his opponent was very strong.

Whether it's DeAndre Jordan or Ekpe Udoh.

In the evening, Lin Bei got into Nate Robinson's car.

He was very brave to ride in Little Potato's car because he didn't remember anything ever happening to him.

Lin Bei plopped down in the passenger seat, then immediately pulled out his phone, opened Twitter, and started editing a post.

"In the three-point battle, I defeated the future king of three-pointers! Cheers to me!"

Just as Lin Bei was doing all this, Little Potato came over and asked, "What are you doing?"

Lin Bei was flustered, not because he was afraid of being discovered to have tweeted.

Instead, it was Little Potato who was driving.

"No, Nate, don't you look ahead when you drive?"

Little Potato turned his head with a normal expression: "What are you afraid of? There aren't many cars on this road."

He paused for a moment, then asked, "Are you tweeting? How many followers do you have on Twitter?"

Lin Bei glanced at it: "135790".

He gained another 2 followers in the past two days.

"You have more than me? What have you been posting? How can an unknown newbie have so many followers?"

Lin Bei didn't know what to say, so he could only reply, "Send anything."

"Let's follow each other later."

"Okay."

Upon arriving at the destination, Lin Bei busied himself dealing with real estate agents.

Little Potato took the opportunity to snatch Lin Bei's phone, saying he needed to set up a mutual follow.

Then, he saw the tweet that Lin Bei had just posted.

"Does this kid have to tweet about winning a single one-on-one three-pointer?"

He clicked on the comments and found that Lin Bei's Twitter was much more active than his.

The first comment was: "Best Lin is the most active Twitter user I've ever seen. I have to follow him because he posts daily."

Little Potato stroked his chin: "So being active means getting followers?"

More than ten minutes later, Lin Bei got his phone back.

His phone was still on Twitter, and he glanced at the comments.

"Beat Stephen Curry with a three-pointer, who holds the rookie three-point record!"

"The Heat dunked over LeBron, the Warriors beat Curry with three points, this guy seems to have some skills?"

"Looking at the photo, with the score at 4-3 and Curry looking grim, it's hard to call this a normal three-point shootout."

"He even posts about winning an unconventional three-point shootout; isn't this guy's desire to share a little too strong?"

"..."

This tweet was indeed not very meaningful; Lin Bei's purpose was simply to maintain the buzz. He glanced at it and then turned off his phone.

"The house has been rented, but I can move in tomorrow. I'm going back to the hotel now, Nate."

Little Potato shook his head: "Why go back to a hotel? Just stay here for the night."

Lin Bei looked at Little Potato's apartment: "Just one bed, Nate, you wouldn't happen to be...?"

Little Potato glared at him: "Get lost! I mean, isn't that big sofa big enough for you to sleep on?"

Lin Bei thought for a moment: "Okay, I'll stay for one night, but I'm going to post a tweet about it."

Little Potato: "Go ahead and post it, if you post it, I'll post it too."

……

Meanwhile, Curry returned home and heard a loud speaker coming from the living room.

"Men are creatures lacking empathy..."

He peeked over and found that it was his wife, Ayesha, browsing YouTube.

He didn't take it seriously, but Ayesha was startled and hurriedly turned off the TV.

Then, he forced a smile and pulled Curry along.

"You're back, Stephen. Anything interesting happened today?"

Curry thought for a moment: "Hmm, there really is, we have a Chinese player on our team..."

Ayesha interjected, "A Chinese player? Wasn't there one before?"

"Oh, sorry, I almost forgot about Jeremy Lin, but this new guy is different."

Although he also has the surname Lin, he is much more active than Jeremy Lin, and we are already good friends.

We also played a three-pointer, and that guy used some dirty tricks to beat me.

The funniest thing is that he even took pictures; I think he probably wanted to tweet them to show off…”

Thinking that Lin Bei might tweet, Curry took out his phone.

He quickly found Lin Bei's Twitter account and saw the new tweet Lin Bei had posted.

"The future king of three-pointers, hahaha, this guy calls me the future king of three-pointers..."

Ayesha stared at Curry, who was beaming like a child, her gaze complex.

Curry retweeted Lin Bei's tweet.

The caption read: "I'll let you off the hook since you called me the future king of three-pointers."

……

The next day, at dawn.

Lin Bei opened his eyes, cleared his head for a moment, then took out his phone and took a picture of the ceiling.

Postscript: "Good morning, me spending the night on @naterobinson's sofa."

After clicking send, he browsed Twitter again.

Lin Bei chuckled when he saw Curry's retweet.

He followed Curry back, and then saw a glaring comment: "Stephen is much more magnanimous than LeBron."

Lin Bei couldn't help but reply, "That's true."

If it were LeBong, Lin Bei would probably lose his job again.

Little Potato was still asleep, and Lin Bei didn't plan to wake him.

It's the same ten-minute drive from this neighborhood to the training hall, but Lin Bei still jogged there.

After arriving at the training hall, Lin Bei took advantage of the early hour and practiced three-pointers for a while.

Although he had Novak's three points, it was ultimately a reward from the system.

He only has the ability to make three-pointers, but he doesn't have the experience to shoot three-pointers.

So he still needs to practice.

As Curry practiced, his hoarse voice reappeared.

"Lin, how about we have a three-point contest today, the way I do it?"

"Another comparison?"

Despite asking a question, Lin Bei accepted Curry's suggestion.

But the outcome of this three-point battle, conducted according to Curry's rules, was already predetermined.

Lin Bei lost, and Curry pulled him aside to take a picture with the scoreboard on it.

"Remember to tweet."

Lin Bei: "Fine, I'll send it."

The morning training consisted of various physical conditioning exercises and shuttle runs.

When it was time for lunch, Lin Bei took out his phone and posted a new tweet.

"We lost today. This guy bullied the newbie."

Curry: "..."

In the afternoon, Mark Jackson arranged a practice match.

In this training match, Lin Bei played center for the first time, and his opponent was Ekpe Udoh, who is 2.06 meters tall.

As a center, Lin Bei is not quite used to it, mainly because of the positional limitation; he can no longer stretch to the three-point line.

In this way, Lin Bei became a pure rebounder.

In a seven- or eight-minute practice match, he grabbed 11 rebounds, including four offensive rebounds.

In terms of rebounds, he dominated Ekpe Udoh, which can be considered a victory in their matchup.

But Mark Jackson wasn't too happy about it on the sidelines.

As soon as the training match ended, he summoned Lin Bei.

"Lin, let's talk!"
