Lord of Mysteries: The Color of the Stars
Chapter 55 Antigonus's Trap
At the critical moment, dense darkness suddenly appeared on the surface of Julian and Mr. Azik's bodies, completely enveloping them.
Julian immediately felt his emotions calm down, and even the "Starry Night" that had been emitting terrified cries fell completely silent.
Everything around seemed to quiet down, completely enveloped in a realm of tranquility and seclusion.
After quite a while, the darkness finally disappeared completely.
"Buzzing..."
As the still-shaken buzzing of "Starry Night" rang out once more, Julian and Mr. Azik simultaneously snapped out of their daze and looked at each other.
Then they both looked around at their surroundings, their eyes filled with horror.
The mist that had enveloped the underground ruins had vanished along with the Commander Tapir and the Bone Lizard, leaving the ground covered in a layer of white powder like fine snow, which had stained the entire ruins pale.
At the end of the ruins, on a stone seat, the darkness that had not yet completely dissipated was rapidly receding.
Once it had completely disappeared, Julian finally saw a box about the size of two hands appear there.
A thick layer of darkness flowed across the surface of the box, as if something was completely sealed inside.
At the same time, a faint female voice appeared in Julian's ear.
"Take this box with you and keep it safe for now."
This is the voice of Amanisis, the "Goddess of the Night"!
However, Julian did not take any action upon hearing this, but instead quickly reviewed the current situation in his mind.
"It seems there's something unusual about the historical fog surrounding this place... it might even be a trap."
"Because it not only automatically pulls out our past historical projections, but also seems to contain a certain 'reconstruction' power of the 'mysterious servant'."
"Only in this way can I explain why I have gained the 'Guardian of Knowledge' ability that I had long lost. The old man who released 'Pale' just now can be basically identified as 'Emperor of the Underworld' Salinger, and his appearance should also be related to 'Reorganization'."
"After all, Mr. Azik is not only His flesh and blood, but also His backup plan after His resurrection... So in a sense, the two have a very high degree of mystical similarity."
"Given the existence of 'reorganization' and the fact that the uniqueness of the 'Death God' pathway has not been actually possessed, it is indeed possible for Him to briefly emerge from the fog of history."
"The 'Starry Night' also exhibited an unusual quietness when faced with the fog of history, which should also be related to Salinger's influence."
Julian's eyes flickered, and as he pondered this point, he became aware of a series of important questions:
"Judging from the pure black of those walls, the 'Goddess of the Night' must have known about this place for a long time and applied her 'stealth' ability here."
"So why didn't He 'hide' this historical mystery beforehand, and even tacitly allowed Mr. Azik and me to enter such a dangerous place?"
"...Could it be that the power of the 'Goddess of Night' herself is insufficient to resolve this historical mystery, and she must rely on Salinger? Or does she desire the appearance of Salinger?"
Julian felt a throbbing in his head; the situation was completely beyond his comprehension.
Just then, the voice of the "Goddess of the Night" rang out again:
"It's safe now, which is good for you too."
Julian took a deep breath and then quickly stepped forward under Mr. Azik's watchful gaze.
In any case, the "Goddess of the Night" should have no reason to harm him now, otherwise Julian would have died countless times over.
He approached the box, its exterior obscured and completely shrouded in darkness, and then carefully picked it up.
The cool, rough texture, like bronze, brought Julian a sense of peace once more, and the restlessness of "Starry Night" was calmed down.
However, it seems that because the darkness was suppressing the contents of the box, the power radiating outwards was not strong; otherwise, Julian would have lost consciousness on the spot and would not have been able to stay awake.
"Julian... what just happened?"
At this moment, Mr. Azik finally came to his senses and asked a question.
"To be honest, I'm not too sure either."
Julian shook his head.
"What's that in your hand?"
Mr. Azik asked again.
"Something extremely dangerous, but it's currently sealed away."
Julian paused for a moment, then said:
"Although it's difficult to explain, I need to keep it for now... I hope you don't mind."
"it is good."
Mr. Azik didn't dwell on these things; he saw genuine and real sorrow in Julian's eyes.
He wasn't excited about getting the item; instead, he felt somewhat uneasy.
"If you need my help, please let me know anytime."
Mr. Azik looked around at the murals with a sigh:
"Coming here with you today has made me feel much better; I don't seem to be as lost and confused as before."
"That's good."
Julian nodded slightly:
"Also, thank you."
After Mr. Azik summoned a creature from the underworld that seemed adept at recording information and had an appearance like a fluid liquid mercury, and it summarized some of the information from the murals, they left the ruins along a long road.
"This information is very valuable today, and I need some time to study and digest it."
Bathed in the afternoon sun, Mr. Azik looked at Julian:
"If you have any discoveries or anything you'd like to discuss, feel free to come find me in the History Department anytime."
"it is good."
Julian didn't ask why Mr. Azik stayed at school instead of going home even during the summer vacation, because he knew in his heart that this "undead" didn't have a real home.
Perhaps staying at school would give him a stronger sense of presence; if Julian were Mr. Azik, he would most likely do the same.
The two shook hands again and then went their separate ways.
Because he was near the outskirts of the city, Julian couldn't find a carriage to rent, and since he wasn't sure if the box posed any potential danger to ordinary people, he simply carried it all the way home.
Fortunately, the box was very light, so it didn't put too much of a burden on Julian.
"Phew, finally home."
Julian breathed a sigh of relief. He put the box away in a safe place and locked it before returning to the living room, where he saw Ethan the little owl sleeping on a pile of books.
"...Wow, he's already started reading books about the history and politics of the Northern Continent."
He glanced at the half-open book and felt a sense of relief.
Julian gently patted Ethan's back, then tiptoed back to his bedroom and retrieved "Chris Jacob's Ring" and the two relics left behind by Lena Powell.
He planned to use the ring's "decryption" function to try and analyze the properties of the two items!
